Boys for Pele - Tori Amos
Favorite Song: Little Amsterdam
In a southern town
Hominy get it on the plate girl
Momma keep your head down
Momma it wasn't my bullet"
Well, to me it is the best album with a piano feature. I thought it was remarkable with her fragile voice and deep lyrics. slightly beautiful. The favorite is not truly the best, but it just one of them.
De Stijl - The White Stripes
Favorite Song: Apple Blossom
"hey little apple blossom
what seems to be the problem
all the ones you tell your troubles to
they don't really care for you "
I prefered Death Letter but it is a cover so I chose "Apple Blossom". I always appreciated the unique rock sound of them. I liked Elephent but in this album it was blowing away.
Favorite Song: Fast As You Can
"I let the beast in too soon,I don't know how to live
Without my hand on his throat,
I fight him always and still
Oh darling, it's so sweet,
you think you know how crazy, How crazy I am.
You say you don't spook easy,
you won't go, but I know and I pray that you will
Fast as you can, baby runfree yourself of me"
Give Me the Money! - Marina and the diamonds
Favorite Song: Lonely Bones
"Coasting through the graveyards
hanging with the lonely bones
Doesn't mean you left us,
you just grew out of your homes,
Just because they've got your earthly name
engraved in gold. Don't try to tell me,
that this alters the world of your soul
You can't take the gold with you anyway."
Yeah, I know this is just a demo collections with a bad quality. but, her acrobatic vocals and her writing are nearly perfect in here. so I just don`t care much for everything surrounding it.
The Definitive Ray Charles - Ray Charles
Favortie Song: Hit The Road Jack
"woman, don't treat me so mean
You're the meanest old woman that I've ever seen
I guess if you said so
I'd have to pack my things and go"
Such a fun Blues album. It passed really quickly. all songs were great and this man is a legend.
In Absentia - Porcupine Tree
Favorite Song: Prodigal
"Rain keeps crawling down the glass
The good times never seem to last
Close your eyes and let the thought pass
I tried the capsule and I tried the smoke
I tried to aid escape like normal folk
But I never seemed to get the joke"
Begin to Hope - Regina Spektor
Favorite Songs- Samson
"You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first, I loved you first
Beneath the sheets of paper lies my truth
I have to go, I have to go
Your hair was long when we first met"
The Fragile - Nine Inch Nails
Favorite Song: The Day the World Went Away
"I'd listen to the words he'd say
but in his voice I heard decay
the plastic face forced to portray
all the insides left cold and gray
there is a place that still remains
it eats the fear it eats the pain
the sweetest price he'll have to pay
the day the whole world went away"
I am so glad I gave it a second chance. it was way better than I remembered. The dirty sound, at first did not attracted me but then I found it fascinating.
Lungs - Florence and The Machine
Rating: 8.3 /10
Favorite Song: Kiss with a Fist
"My black eye casts no shadow
Your red eye sees no blame
Your slaps don't stick
Your kicks don't hit
So we remain the same
Blood sticks ,Sweat drips
Break the lock if it don't fit"
I believe in indie pop. I just found it magical and enjoyable.maybe it has quite a repetitive tune but still,Florence has a remarkable voice.
Haunted - Poe
Favorite Song: Terrible Thought
"A terrible thought has moved into my mind
Like an unwanted room-mate drunk on wine
It feeds on my happiness won't pay the rent
I must take proper measures to evict it"
Usually, rocking ladies does not appeal to me. But this huanting album with this incredible huanting vocals by Poe were clearly amazing.
Exodus - Bob Marley, Bob Marley & The Wailers
Favorite Song: The Heathen
"Rise up fallen fighters;
Rise and take your stance again.
'Tis he who fight and run away
Live to fight another day. "
Innervisions - Stevie Wonder
Favorite Song: All in Love Is Fair
"In love as one they say
But all is changed with time
The future no one can see
The road you leave behind
Ahead lies mystery
But all is fair in love
I had to go away
A writer takes his pen
To write the words again
That all in love is fair"
Closer - Joy Division
Favorite Song: Twenty Five Hours
"So this is permanent, love's shattered pride.
What once was innocence, turned on its side.
A cloud hangs over me, marks every move,
Deep in the memory, of what once was love."
Very depressing album, a suicidal theme. Actually after hearing more albums by Joy Division, I understand it was a part of them, all of them were like this album just in a difrrent directions.
Dummy - Portishead
Favorite Song: Biscuit
"I'm lost, exposed
Stranger things will come your way
Its just I'm scared
Got hurt along time ago
I can't make myself heard no matter how hard I scream"
A Healthy Distrust - Sage Francis
Favorite Song: Sea Lion
"The force of my love was strong.
The sea lion lay down long.
Song in the air.
Why should singer care?
When singer can be among song."
Substance - Joy Division
Favorite Song- Glass
"Hearts fail, young hearts fail,
Take it quick, take it neat,
Clasp your hands, touch your feet,
Take it quick, take it neat."
Unknown Pleasures - Joy Division
Favorite Song: Disorder
"I've been waiting for a guide to come
and take me by the hand,
Could these sensations make me feel
the pleasures of a normal man?
These sensations barely interest me for another day,
I've got the spirit, lose the feeling,
take the shock away."
Hounds of Love - Kate Bush
Rating: 8 /10
Favorite Song: Mother Stands for Comfort
"It breaks the cage, and fear escapes and takes possession
Just like a crowd rioting inside
(Make me do this, make me do that, make me do this, make me do that)
Am I the cat that takes the bird
To her the hunted, not the hunter?"
Absolution - Muse
Favorite Song: Butterflies and Hurricanes
"Change everything you are
And everything you were
Your number has been called
Fights and battles have begun
Revenge will surely come
Your hard times are ahead"
Didn`t like much the first two songs but the rest was a very good surprise.
Murder Ballads - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Favorite Song: Where the Wild Roses Grow
"They call me 'The Wild Rose'
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it, I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day "
Overtones - Just Jack
Favorite song: I Talk Too much
"Sometimes I don't say the right things
to make you love me even more than you do.
Though I try, I just can't apologize
for all the things I'm putting you through
Well I know that you've been through it
And you have your scars.
All the women are from Venus and the men are from Mars.
I could tell you everytime I admit the charge (so wrong). "
I get to know this man through a tv promo with the "starz in their eyes" as the music background and it got stucked in my head. I decided to check it up, it has some cool sluggish attitude that I really liked.
Vessel - twenty one pilots
Favorite Song: Car Radio
"I ponder of something great
My lungs will fill and then deflate
They fill with fire
Exhale desire, I know it's dire
My time today"
I found it fascinating catching an artist in his begininng of the road. I enjoyed the noise of the unsure dance/rock music.
Extraordinary Machine - Fiona Apple
Favorite Song: Tymps (The Sick in the Head Song)
"Those boon times went bust
My feet of clay, they dried to dust
The red isn't the red we painted
Its just rust
And the signature thing
That used to bring a following
I have trouble now even remembering"
American V: A Hundred Highways - Johnny Cash
Favorite Song: Gods Gonna Cut You Down
"Well, you may throw your rock and hide your hand
Workin' in the dark against your fellow man
But as sure as God made black and white
What's down in the dark will be brought to the light"
Ray of Light - Madonna
Favorite Song: Frozen
"You only see what your eyes want to see
How can life be what you want it to be
You're frozen, when your heart's not open
You're so consumed with how much you get
You waste your time with hate and regret
You're broken, when your heart's not open"
Like everyone, I have been judging Madonna for starting the whole slutty pop thing we have nowadays. But then I get to know more of her songs and I`m pretty pleased. She has class which all the girls who use their music to reach fame and attention never will have.
Waiting for the Sun - The Doors
Favorite Song: Love Street
"She has robes and she has monkeys
Lazy diamond studded flunkies
She has wisdom and knows what to do
She has me and she has you "
Paradise - Lana Del Rey
My favorite Song: Bel Air
"Don't be afraid of me, don't be ashamed.
Walk in the way of my soft resurrection.
Idol of roses, iconic soul. I know your name.
Lead me to war with your brilliant direction."
I have few problems with Lana. Listening to "Born To Die" sounded like one song that goes on & on and in some point I start to lose my intrest in the actual songs, when I overheard some songs as "Dark Paradise" "Video Games" and "Carmen" I started to like it a lot. Then I heard "Paradise" I thought it was more original and interesting, the issues still remains, but it way better.
Bad Blood - Bastille
Favorite Song: Laura Palmer
"Walking out into the dark
Cutting out a different path
Lead by your beating heart
All the people of the town
Cast their eyes right to the ground
In matters of the heart"
Post - Björk
Favorite Song: Hyper-Ballad
"We live on a mountain
Right at the top
There's a beautiful view
From the top of the mountain
Every morning I walk towards the edge
And throw little things off
Like car-parts, bottles and cutlery
Hunky Dory - David Bowie
Favorite Song: Life On Mars?
"But the film is a saddening bore
'Cause she's lived it ten times or more
She could spit in the eyes of fools
As they ask her to focus on. "
Homogenic - Björk
Rating: 7.4 /10
Favorite Song: Joga
"all the accidents that happen follow the dot
coinsidense makes sense only with you
you don't have to speak
I feel emotional landscapes
they puzzle me"
That felt like cosmic experience, not something I`ve heard before. She is very unique, maybe I should devote few more listens to this album to truly love.
The Doors - The Doors
Favorite Song: Soul Kitchen
"Well, the clock says it's time to close now
I guess I'd better go now
I'd really like to stay here all night
The cars crawl past all stuffed with eyes
Street lights share their hollow glow
Your brain seems bruised with numb surprise"
Far - Regina Spektor
Favorite Song: Eet
"You spend half of your life trying to fall behind
You're using your headphones to drown out your mind
It was so easy and the words so sweet
You can't remember, you try to move your feet."
Ester Rada - Ester Rada
Rating: 7.3 /10
Favorite Song: Life Happens
"Sometime it seems like you just saying cause
You afraid that the silence reviles you much more
Paralyzed by the thought
That maybe you got caught
Packing your lies in a suit case
And run fast to another fake choice."
She is a cool fusion ,as an artist and a person, it was an interesting listen.
Life in Cartoon Motion - Mika_XII
Favortie Song: Grace Kelly
"How can I help it? How can I help it?
How can I help what you think?
Hello my baby, hello my baby
Putting my life on the brink"
Holy Wood (In The Shadow Of The Valley Of Death)... - Marilyn Manson
Favorite Song: Target Audience (Narcissus Narcosis)
"But I'm sorry Shakespeare
was your scapegoat
and your apples sticking into my throat
Sorry your Sunday smiles are rusty nails
and your crucifixion commercials failed
but I'm just a pitiful anonymous."
Manson has a clear statment here that he wanted to show us. Some of the songs are truly amazing with their trouble-minded lyrics. But as always I had a little problem with the screaming, I was born with a headache, I know it is very helpful for the angry mood in this album but I just can`t stand it. There is a limit of "noise" that I can listen to and Manson crossed it in a few songs.
Automatic for the People - R.E.M.
Favorite Song: Drive
"Smack, crack, bushwhacked
Tie another one to the racks, baby
Hey kids, rock and roll
Nobody tells you where to go, baby"
Mezzanine - Massive Attack
Favorite Song: Teardrop
"Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my breath
Night, night after day
Black flowers blossom
Fearless on my breath
Black flowers blossom
Fearless on my breath"
Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Favorite Song: Californication
"It's the edge of the world
And all of western civilization
The sun may rise in the East
At least it settled in a final location
It's understood that Hollywood
Tribute - John Newman
Favorite Song: Love Me Again
"Know I’ve done wrong,
Left your heart torn
Is that what devils do?
Took you so low,
Where only fools go
I shook the angel in you
Now I’m rising from the ground
Rising up to you
Filled with all the strength I found
There's nothing I can’t do!"
Like a Prayer - Madonna
Favorite Song: Like a Prayer
"I hear your voice, it's like an angel sighing
I have no choice, I hear your voice
Feels like flying
I close my eyes, Oh God I think I'm falling
Out of the sky, I close my eyes
Heaven help me"
Loyal to the Game - Tupac Shakur
Favorite Song: Ghetto Gospel
"Those who wish to follow me
I welcome with my hands
And the red sun sinks at last
into the hills of gold
And peace to this young warrior
Without the sound of guns"
With all my respect for Eminem, the production was not so good, it has some well-done songs but I didn`t have much fun listening. Ghetto Gospel is a terrifc song and the album contains much more but still....
From The Yellow Room - Yiruma
Favorite Song: Kiss The Rain
It is quite tough for me to listen to a song without lyrics, but still I thought it was magical.
Reflektor - Arcade Fire
Favorite Song: We Exist
"Walking around head full of sound
Acting like we don't exist
Walk in a room stare out through you
Talking like we don't exist,
But we exist"
Jesus Hits Like the Atom Bomb - Tripping Daisy
Favorite Song: Waited a Light Year
"When we were friends, this I know
I waited a long time ago
I wondered where we left off when we were friends
Sold to me for a life
I want her"
The Flying Club Cup - Beirut
Favorite Song: Nantes
"Well, it's been a long time, long time now
Since I've seen you smile
And I'll gamble away my fright
And I'll gamble away my time
And in a year, a year or so
This will slip into the sea
Well, it's been a long time, long time now
Since I've seen you smile"
Beirut confuses me. It has a cheerful sound but the leading voice is depressing. So my mood is sincerely necessary ahead of my listening.
I Never Learn - Lykke Li
Favorite Song: No Rest For The Wicked
"If one heart can mend another
Only then can we begin
So won't you hold on a little longer
Don't let them get away"
I am pretty divided about that one. For the first listen it was beautiful and for the second her voice annoyed me a bit. the third made me feel like it has some great songs and some not. But still I thought it was pretty good and the tunes are enchanting.
Pure Heroine - Lorde
Favorite Song: 400 Lux
"We're never done with killing time
Can I kill it with you?
'Til the veins run red and blue
We come around here all the time
Got a lot to not do
Let me kill it with you"
Led Zeppelin IV - Led Zeppelin
Favorite Song: Stairway To Heaven
"There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows,
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for."
Maybe the most classical rock album of all times. As a girl who "Stairway To Heaven" was repeated on & on at her childhood, I had a huge expectations. well, In my opinion, it was not bad but not as great as the fuzz about it claims . I felt the rock chliches all over it, nothing truly diffrenet in here.
Garbage - Garbage
Favorite Song: I Think I`m Paranoid
"Bend me, break me anyway you need me
All I want is you
Bend me, break me. breaking down is easy
All I want is you
I fall down just to give you a thrill
Prop me up with another pill
If I should fail, if I should fold
I nailed my faith to the sticking pole"
