Forensic anthropologist/novelist Dr. Temperence 'Bones' Brennan (Emily Deschanel) works at the Jeffersonian Institute Medico-Legal Lab. She and her team consult with law enforcement in murder investigations, especially when the victim's remains are badly burned or decomposed. Dr. Brennan often teams up with Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) of the FBI to work on these cases.

Best-selling mystery novelist Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) teams up with NYPD homicide, after a copycat uses his stories as a blueprint for murder. He works with Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) and her team to solve murder cases and for research purposes for his next novel.

Harry Dresden (Paul Blackthorne) is a wizard/private investigator that is called on by Lt. Connie Murphy (Valerie Cruz) of the Chicago Police Department to help with bizarre cases. Most of these cases involve the supernatural or paranormal.

Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Dr. Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) are consultants for the NYPD. They work closely with Captain Thomas Gregson (Aidan Quinn) and Detective Marcus Bell (Jon Michael Hill) on their investigations.

Former FBI agent/author Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) is called in to help the FBI recapture serial killer and cult leader Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) after he escapes from prison and to stop Carroll's cult members/followers.

Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) and his colleagues in The Lightman Group consult with law enforcement and assist with investigations to determine who is telling the truth.

Former detective Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub) for the San Francisco Police Department works as a private detective and a consultant for the homicide unit. Captain Leland Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) and Lieutenant Randall "Randy" Disher (Jason Gray-Stanford) call on Monk when they need his help with a case.

Professor Charlie Eppes (David Krumholtz) is a mathematical genius who, in addition to teaching at California Institute of Science (CalSci), consults for the FBI and NSA. His older brother Don Eppes (Rob Morrow) is the lead FBI agent at the Los Angeles Violent Crimes Squad.

Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and his flatmate, Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) are consulting detectives for the The Metropolitan Police Service in 21st century London. They work with Detective Inspector Greg Lestrade (Rupert Graves) to solve various crimes.
