Serenity (2005)
12/30/13 - Despite the (expected) pacing problems that would come from wrapping up an entire series with a movie Serenity is for the most part a really entertaining film and the Firefly cast are just as loveable as they always were.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Steins;Gate (2011)
12/26/13 - Like all time-travel stories, there are plot-holes all over the place but Steins;Gate boasts one of the most likable overall casts of characters I've seen in an anime and though it feels like by the end there was maybe a few too many plot-devices, it's an undeniably fun and engaging series.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Prisoners (2013)
12/24/13 - Boring and silly with lots of pointless scenes.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Firefly (2002)
12/15/14 - After the lackluster 90 minute pilot, Firefly becomes a really well-written and fun adventure. Would have loved to see where this would have gone.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Clannad (2007)
12/13/13 - Considering I marathoned the entire show in less than a day, yeah, this is good shit. The music is amazing and the writing is extremely tight in it's transitions to other story arcs and in emotional value. That and I'm a total sucker for this genre. Now I just can't wait to see what all the hubbub about After Story is.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

12/11/13 - Makoto Shinkai delivers a disappointingly Ghibli-esque film with very bland themes of grieving but towards the end there was at least some interesting imagery and the animation from CoMix Wave is great as always.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Usagi Drop (2011)
12/11/13 - Might be a bit sappy for some but I love this shit. Great animation and soundtrack and the opening scenes being done in pastel is a nice touch.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

The Garden Of Words (2013)
12/10/13 - Melodramatic, underwritten and a bit stale, Garden of Words is saved by it's brief 45 minute run-time, a beautiful score and the incredible advances in the blending of CGI and traditional animation on display.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Oldboy (2013)
12/09/13 - Probably the worst movie I've ever seen. Good thing it was fucking hilarious.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

This Film Is Not Yet Rated (2006)
12/01/13 - I don't really know how to judge a documentary but it was a fairly interesting look into the MPAA while being funny and entertaining. I liked it.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Masked and Anonymous (2003)
11/30/13 - Badly shot, edited, directed, acted and scored, this faux-political cluster-fuck does and says absolutely nothing.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

12 Years a Slave (2013)
11/18/13 - Technically great but a lack of flow and an abrupt ending hurt it. No surprises to be found here but the film does it's job. Great acting (minus Brad Pitt) and a brilliant score from Hans Zimmer are pluses.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

11/16/13 - The first half was pretty bad but then it got really interesting.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Escape from New York (1981)
11/12/13 - Decent plot but weak acting and music really ruin it. Not one memorable scene.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Portrait of Hell (1969)
11/05/13 - It started off pretty standard but it got pretty damn cool towards the end. Great cinematography.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

11/04/13 - A lot of neat ideas but it feels a little half-baked. Fortunately the film looks great, has a great soundtrack and has a really interesting feel.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

A Bay of Blood (1971)
11/04/13 - Passable "slasher" film with good music but the bad acting and sound mixing take away some of the punch.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Benny's Video (1992)
11/03/13 - Like every Michael Haneke film it has some interesting ideas but he just manages to suck all the energy out of it.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

11/02/13 - Weakly scripted, filled with logic problems and overlong but is almost completely saved by Doona Bae's performance.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Gravity (2013)
11/01/13 - Though impressive technically it's a bit of a bore, likely because I can't see in 3D.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Memories of Matsuko (2006)
10/31/13 - Gaudy to a fault but a solid story, acting, music and overall creativity make "Memories of Matsuko" a memorable film. Essentially a depressing Amelie.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Grave Encounters (2011)
10/30/13 - Starts off pretty boring, then it gets dumb but then there's a few decent scares so I guess it did it's job.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Blacula (1972)
10/28/13 - Some funny moments but is ruined by some terrible sound design.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

10/28/13 - Fun and silly musical with some crazy claymation moments.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Rampo Noir (2005)
10/25/13 - Some interesting segments but nothing too memorable in this anthology.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

10/22/13 - Funny but cliche and a little awkward. Unfortunate music choices as well.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

10/22/13 - Apart from feeling like some scenes were missing, Santa Sangre is a fun, imaginative film that's weird but doesn't go overboard like some of Jodorowsky's other works.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Ju-On: The Grudge 2 (2003)
10/21/13 - Sufficiently creepy and has some good imagery. The story is decent enough though there are a few lame special effects here and there. Overall, it's better than the first one.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Father's Day (2011)
10/19/13 - The major problem is that it was trying really hard to be funny and wasn't at all. The plot is also totally retarded.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Kick-Heart (2013)
10/17/13 - A fun little short with Masaaki Yuasa's trademark art style but at the end of the day there's not much substance here.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Escape from Tomorrow (2014)
10/16/13 - One of the most admirable films I've ever seen. Escape from Tomorrow is a surprisingly uncomfortable movie, so I guess it's pretty effective despite being a horror movie secretly filmed at Disneyland.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Green Street Hooligans (2005)
10/15/13 - The most cliche and formulaic film I've seen in a while and it's not particularly well made but it's entertaining and well acted enough.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

10/12/13 - A neat story idea and the monsters look pretty cool but inept sound design and awful editing ruin any momentum C.H.U.D. may have been able to muster.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

10/11/13 - That was fucking magical. My only complaint is that it might be a little too long. The only Kurosawa film I've seen to impress me as a whole.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

10/10/13 - Far from a great movie in terms of writing I still really enjoyed it. Really didn't feel like a Tsukamoto movie.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

10/09/13 - Really bad storyline but it looked great, the soundtrack was awesome and I can't say it wasn't at least somewhat entertaining.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Tokyo Fist (1995)
10/09/13 - It felt a bit goofy at first but man were there some cool scenes in this.

Ueno_Station54's rating:

Across the Universe (2007)
10/06/13 - A lot of the same pacing problems I have with every musicals and the film isn't really well constructed but it's decently entertaining though overlong.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Wreck-It Ralph (2012)
10/05/13 - Hackneyed and uninspired. Yep, sure sounds like Disney.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

Seven Psychopaths (2012)
10/04/13 - That was a really dumb movie. Fortunately Sam Rockwell is a funny guy.
Ueno_Station54's rating:

The Brides of Dracula (1960)
10/04/13 - Check out my Hammer Films' Dracula series review for more info.
