Blacula is the story of Manuwalde, an African Prince. This movie presents a modern version of the classic Dracula story in a very chilling and inventive way. In 1780, after visiting Count Dracula, Manuwalde is turned into a vampire and locked in a coffin.. The scene shifts to 1972, when two antique collectors transport the coffin to Los Angeles. The two men open the coffin and unleash Blacula on the city of Los Angeles. Blacula soon finds Tina, who is his wife, Luva, reincarnated, and gains her love. Tina's friend, Dr. Gordon, discovers Blacula is a vampire and hunts him down.

Great Black (African American) Horror Movies (11 movies items)

"One of the standout titles of the blaxploitation era, Blacula is not particularly as great as it is important. Riddled with plot and production trappings of the sub-genre, the film is what it sounds like, a reworking of Dracula with a black lead. However, it's influence is undeniable and it's a milestone in black horror cinema for being among the prominent early examples of its kind. "

"First viewing - Oct. 31st "From my laboratory in the castle east / To the master bedroom where the vampires feast..." By comparison Blacula was far better. I've known of this film for a long time, but never had much luck tracking it down so I was pretty happy I finally found it. William Marshall does an excellent job in the lead role, and I thought the rest of the cast was decent. There are some unintentionally funny moments, like the vampires at the beginning having unnaturally long fangs or t"

My Movie Diary 2017 (217 movies items)

"24 March. A black bloodsucker (turned by the original count) returns from the grave to woo his lady once more but is foiled by brother cops. But, Blacula is just a title. Everything else is quite terrible. Though it does require viewing since it is quite a rarity, blaxploitation horror, they don't make those kind of camp movies anymore. "
