Valhalla Rising (2010)
Watched on: 1/1/13

This film is an amazing ride but sadly a very slow one. If you can make it through the first half of the film you'll be rewarded with some beautiful visuals and a story that will make you think long after it ends.

Bronson (2009)
Watched on: 1/1/13

With a lesser actor this film would've been a complete bore, but Tom Hardy is simply incredible. He uses his charisma and acting talent which turns a decent film into a very good one.

Paranormal Activity 3 (2011)
Watched on: 1/2/13

More of the same if you liked the first 2 you'll like this one. The thing I liked about this one it felt like it moved a lot quicker and it was more entertaining than the first two.
FunnyGuy's rating:

The Tall Man (2012)
Watched on: 1/3/13

If you want a decent mystery you might like The Tall Man. If a horror film is what you're craving this film will disappoint you in a big bad way. It never lost my interest and I liked certain parts but overall it felt kind of flat.

This may be a better film than I'm giving it credit for, but it left me feeling a bit depressed which isn't the best feeling to be left with at the end of a film.

Films like Bellflower are the reason I love independent cinema. This film just crackles with energy and passion.

Stake Land (2011)
Watched on: 1/4/13

Best horror film I've seen in several years. Solid acting, terrific storyline, great atmosphere and interesting characters. A must-see for anyone who loves good movies.
FunnyGuy's rating:

My Summer of Love (2004)
Watched on: 1/5/13

A bittersweet love story with some great performances from the gorgeous Emily Blunt and Natalie Press.
FunnyGuy's rating:

Haywire (2012)
Watched on: 1/5/13

Leave it to Steven Soderbergh to take a spy thriller and drain it of all excitement and intensity. There's a chase scene in the middle of this film that might be the most boring chase scene I've ever seen. The music that was used in the film just didn't fit at all it was a distraction. Lastly every character felt dull and on the verge of being lifeless.

A bold and extremely funny social satire. The message of the film, that we are failing as a society is spot on. I hope Bobcat Goldthwait continues making movies he's got a hilarious, angry and twisted mind. I can't wait to see what he does next.
FunnyGuy's rating:

Sleepwalk with Me (2013)
Watched on: 1/6/13

Writer/director/star Mike Birbiglia has created a thoroughly enjoyable, charming and surprisingly insightful film.

I wanted to love this movie but I ended up just liking it. My biggest problem was Django himself I found him incredibly dull. What saved the film was the brilliant performances of DiCaprio and Waltz, two of my favorite actors. I usually see Tarantino movies 2-3 times in theaters but I'll wait for DVD to see this again so I can skip to all the DiCaprio and Waltz scenes.
FunnyGuy's rating:

Coriolanus (2012)
Watched on: 1/9/13

The performances in this film are outstanding but I simply don't care much for Shakespeare. I would love to say it's because I find Shakespeare dull, but the truth is I don't understand about half the things that are being said. Now if you're looking for some great acting this film nails it in that regard.
FunnyGuy's rating:

Killer Elite (2011)
Watched on: 1/9/13

I skipped this in theaters because I thought it was just another lame Jason Statham action film where he plays the same character once again. Yeah he plays pretty much the same character here but this film happens to be flat-out awesome. Throw in the great Robert De Niro and the magnificent Clive Owen and boom any problems with the acting are now solved. I would of rated it higher but the final act is a bit weak.

Gangster Squad (2013)
Watched on: 1/18/13

The great cast made this a good film with a lesser cast I might not have enjoyed it very much.

Anything starring Jessica Chastain already has my interest also I love a good ghost story. So as you can imagine I really enjoyed this film. Chastain delivers another terrific performance and the film has some great scares and an unnerving creepiness throughout.
FunnyGuy's rating:

Jolene (2008)
Watched on: 1/20/13

I shouldn't of liked this film but the talent, beauty and radiance of Jessica Chastain makes it almost impossible to dislike any film she stars in.

I found myself emotionally invested in this bittersweet and realistic look at love and marriage. For those who don't find themselves invested in the story I would still recommend this film for the amazing performance by Michelle Williams.

Hunger (2008)
Watched on: 1/25/13

There's no denying this is a powerful and harrowing film but it's also not that entertaining. This is one of the few films I admire but at the same time I didn't really enjoy it either.
FunnyGuy's rating:

Les Misérables (2012)
Watched on: 1/31/13

Hugh Jackman carries the entire film on his back, I believe he gives his finest performance to date. I know Daniel Day-Lewis is almost guaranteed the Oscar this year but if I had a vote it would be for Jackman all the way.
FunnyGuy's rating:

My goal is to watch at least 300 movies I've never seen before, during 2013.
