Roger Corman (the "pope of the B series" who here asserts himself as a great "gothic" filmmaker) + Vincent Price (imperial) + Barbara Steele (impeccable in a fairly short role) + the writer Richard Matheson ("I am a legend") who adapts the monumental Edgar Allan Poe: this association of geniuses could only give a great film, and this is the case for this cult "The Pit and the Pendulum" ("The Chamb... read more

Elizabeth Barnard Medina (Barbara Steele) has died in the prime of life, and her brother, Francis (John Kerr), wants to know why. Elizabeth's husband, Nicholas (Vincent Price), and her doctor offer differing explanations, but when Francis learns that Nicholas' mother may have been buried alive, he begins to wonder if his sister met the same fate. "19.11. Roger Corman, Vincent Price ja Edgar Allan Poe ovat aina herkullinen yhdistelmä. Nightpainin teoksista kaikkein eniten oskilloivassa V. Jäpikkä saapuu syrjäiseen kartanoon, jossa hänen sisarensa on kuollut mystisissä olosuhteissa. Siskon miestä esittävä Vincent Price ei ainakaan vähennä murhaepäilyjä käyttäytymällä hurmaavan ylieksentrisesti. Morsionsa kuolemaa sureva siippa tuntuu kuitenkin menettävän järkeään rakennuksessa tapahtuvan väitetyn kummittelun myötä."

"Broken Image Link Date: 4/2/2021 Viewed: Amazon Prime Re-Watch Note: The Pit and The Pendulum is one of Roger Corman's best films in my opinion. The production values are amazing and the cinematography from Floyd Crosby (Tabu: A Story of the South Seas) is colorful to look at. Roger Corman did a fantastic job of trying to recreate Edgar Allan Poe's vision. The creepy music from Les Baxter (Savage Sisters) helps the movie feel more atmospheric. It's been years since I have read the original "

Spook-fest 2016 (35 movies items)

"A Roger Corman film, the primary reason to see this is the ranging performance of Vincent Price, at first a man left broken and skittish by a life of horrors, and later in a more familiar madman role when he starts to believe he is his own father, an executioner. Cheesy, but fun. The scariest part is probably the corpse. You'll see..."

The place of torment. Pandemonium. Abbadon. Tophet. Gehenna. Naraka. THE PIT!... And the pendulum." Not the best Corman/Price collaboration or the best Corman/Price Poe adaptation, but it's still pretty good. Vincent Price delivers a great performance as always and it did have its chilling moments.
