On the surface it's just a low budget zombie film. The fact that it became the defining film of its genre ,and even a social commentary at a moment of civil-rights unrest in the United States, just goes to show that great films can be made without a lavish production schedule. Sure, the acting isn’t great. Whilst Duane Jones is pretty good, it’s his character that really sets the film alight (... read more

**First of all, I'm not American or British, so forgive me, readers, if my English has a few mistakes.

One of the greatest horror films ever made, the original Night of the Living Dead proves that you don't need astronomical budgets to develop a solid, well-done and most important for the genre, scary story.

Initiating with a relatively simple story, the film develops... read more

This was the first black and white and the first zombie film I ever watched. I blame my love of zombies on this movie. The fact it was black and white added to the creepy in my opinion. This is a classic film. If you haven't seen this yet please do so! This was remade in 1990, yes it was good but it doesn't go the original justice.

Description: Shot outside Pittsburgh on a shoestring budget, by a band of filmmakers determined to make their mark, Night of the Living Dead, directed by horror master George A. Romero, is a great story of independent cinema: a midnight hit turned box-office smash that became one of the most influential films of all time. A deceptively simple tale of a group of strangers trapped in a farmhouse who find themselves fending off a horde of recently dead, flesh-eating ghouls, Romero’s claustrophobic vision of a late-1960s America literally tearing itself apart rewrote the rules of the horror genre, combined gruesome gore with acute social comme ... Great Black (African American) Horror Movies (11 movies items)

"Romero's film changed the genre forever for a variety of reasons but one of the greatest among those was how clearly social commentary was laced into its narrative fabric. Most notable was that aimed at racial tension in America, embodied by African-American lead Duane Jones and his counterpart Karl Hardman, playing Harry Cooper, a man with a serious chip on his shoulder. the startling conclusion of this film says tomes about a casting choice Romero swears had nothing to do with race. Intentiona"

Slant’s 100 Greatest Horror Films – 2018 Edition (100 movies items)

"Roger Ebert memorably described the effect George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead had on a group of Saturday matinee kids, writing that their accelerating awareness that the film wasn’t going to play nice—and was, in fact, going to plunge a garden trowel deep into Mommy’s chest cavity—drove them to hysterical tears. Perhaps they subconsciously recognized in the political and social subtext of the film the many ways adults were failing them, how upheavals were destroying all illusi"

"7.10. Aika perseestähän tämmösiä on reittailla näin 2018 ensikatselulla. Genreään määrittävää kuvaa, ja varsin huolella tehtyä. Loppukohtaus säväyttää tänäkin päivänä. Juonessa ilahduttaa tietynlainen raadollisuus. Pun intended."

" Date: 10/2/2018 Viewed: Blu-Ray Re-watch Note: What can be said about this movie that has not been said already? I watched the movie for the 50th anniversary and I loved this movie since I was 5 years old. Night of the Living Dead is just perfect in my opinion. The story, characters, writing, the atmosphere, and cinematography are just fantastic. I like Night of the Living Dead over Dawn of the Dead and the other movies in the Dead series because Night of the Living Dead feels so authentic "

1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die (1960's) (153 movies items)

" Notes: Before watching this flick, since it is such a classic, I had some rather huge expectations. Honestly, I was a little bit disappointed by the whole thing. I mean, the point is that, after waiting all these years, I finally saw it and I liked it but I wasn't exactly blown away like I hoped I would be. I mean, it is well done and entertaining, I definitely can see how it must have been frightening for the audience back in 1968 and I can see as well how it has influenced all the horror mov"

" "They're coming to get you Barbara!"- truer words has never been spoken in the zombie horror genre. It looks classy even if it's gory and has gruesome content. Excellent played even if the cast consist of mostly amateurs and unknowns. Ending is still effective 50 years on."
