Moved by the apperance of Angela Lansbury and Dick Van Dyke, not so by the kind of baroc musicals, even some ideas (the world inside a bowl, or the sea inside a bathtub) are good. Meryl Streep is expendable.

An average movie

To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of Mary Poppins and, in my opinion, it was actually a terrible idea to make a sequel after all these years. However, since I have a weak spot for Emily Blunt and since this movie was available on Disney+, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, I have to admit that it didn’t turn out to be such a misguided sequel after all, it was actually even a decent w... read more

Expectations were very high for 'Mary Poppins Returns'. 'Mary Poppins' is still one of my all-time favourite films, the very meaning of a timeless classic. The cast is also a very talented one and have enjoyed some of Disney's previous re-makes/follow-ups. “Expectations were very high for 'Mary Poppins Returns'. 'Mary Poppins' is still one of my all-time favourite films, the very meaning of a timeless classic. The cast is also a very talented one and have enjoyed some of Disney's previous re-makes/follow-ups. After watching the trailer, 'Mary Poppins Returns' did become one of my most anticipated films of 2018 and was really hoping it would be as good as the trailer was and not be a disappointment, where the trailer was great and the film was not, like another highly anticipated film 'The Nutcracker and the Four Realms'.

Found myself luckily really enjoying this on the most part after seeing it with my sister. It is not in the same league as, or have the same amount of magic as, 'Mary Poppins', which would have been a tall order in ” read more

Movies according to my dreams (110 movies items)

"Co-produced with Paramount, this film opens with Josh Gad walking into a tram full of kids, chipper as ever, to tell the story, and what follows involves more CGI creatures (including really expressive mice), a variety of poorly drawn 2D-animated characters serving as Mary's sidekicks, and a London partly populated by Animal Crossing villagers. Preceding this was a film from 1993 (my birth year) named Carousel, in which a mustachioed train conductor takes his passengers on a journey through fil"

"I was looking for a jolly holiday with Mary... what I found was a slipshod attempt to recreate magic from a classic. Yes, Emily Blunt is delightful, but the direction, writing and editing killed this movie. I'm not sure how looked at the structure of this movie and all its scenes and thought it would actually work. This is was a high-production value movie with the high caliber cast that seemed to be directed by an amateur. This is strange since I rather revere Rob Marshall and gave him a pas"
