Beauty and the Beast
The Only One!
Magic from the opening prologue to the final credit, "Beauty and the Beast" is the last real classic to come from the Disney crew before John Lasseter came along. This was one of the few movies I happily paid to see twice in the cinema, and sitting in a sparsely-populated Friday night audience (I... read more

"Pros: Belle. One of the best Disney princesses, ever. The animation. The love story, between Belle and The Beast. The songs, and music. It’s one of the best Disney animated films, ever. The voice acting. Gaston, he is a horrible jerk. But he is our horrible jerk. Cons: One could consider what Belle goes through, a severe case of Stockholm Syndrome. It can get decidedly dark at times."

Several cuts, very scratchy and seemed to play in PAL speed, but goodness was watching it this way a heavenly experience. Sadly, no WB logo at the end or the beginning. "This movie is just incredible! Everything about it is just perfect. The main character is perfect, the villain is perfect, the romance is perfect, the animation is perfect, the music is perfect… I think the movie's single greatest strength is that it takes itself as seriously as a fairytale can: all the characters seem like real people. Is it any wonder it was the first animated film ever to be nominated for Best Picture? If this list were based on a technical standpoint, this would have to be"

“This movie is without doubt the best animated movie of all time. The artistry was perfect. I was spellbound at the animated sequences to the songs "Be Our Guest" and "Beauty and the Beast" especially. The characters were very well drawn, and because of the dark and colourful backgrounds, the film looked beautiful. The songs are fantastic. Another movie with great songs is "The Hunchback of Notre Dame"(which has the best beginning to a Disney movie). In fact, all the Alan Menken scores are brilliant, with the exception of Home On The Range, which is one of the weaker Disney efforts. My personal favourites, were the songs I just mentioned, and "Gaston" was great fun too. The incidental music was the best in any Disney movie, and that is the same with the other Menken scores.
