" Director: Otto Preminger His 21st Movie. My 5th movie watched from the director. Sinatra plays this role perfectly, but his two female co-leads, Kim Novak and Eleanor Parker, steal the show - Sorry Blue Eyes. The movie can be a bit dramatic and the production quality is forgettable. Also, the editing isn't great, especially in the very important final scene. With all that said, this is pure Preminger directing and he does it well. The film moves along nice and the characters are always i"

"First viewing - Nov. 21st Frank Sinatra acts his ass off in this film...I was really impressed. You can see more or less where it'll wind up, but thankfully it's written so that I was invested in the characters enough that I hardly minded. I think this is the earliest film I've seen that deals honestly with drug addiction, and I found that admirable. They carry that baggage and must find some way to shed that usual recognition and replace it with a new life that lies dormant in their character as written. That is an achievement in itself. As an audience, as fans of music, we are used to seeing Sinatra as a ma"
“The Man with the Golden Arm has seen its reputation mellow in comparison to other addiction dramas from the era, namely The Lost Weekend. I suppose falling into the public domain and an avalanche of poor home video releases can do that to a movie. Shame as The Man with the Golden Arm has a lot to offer the viewer on all fronts, not just as historical trivia as the first major release to tackle drug addiction. ย Loosely based on the Nelson Algren novel, shining more light and injecting more hope into the proceedings (this was the heyday of the Hays Code and strict censorship, after all), but donโt ever mistake this for an easy viewing experience. From the first frame, in which Frankie Machine (Frank Sinatra) returns to his neighborhood after a stint in a prison hospital to kick his her” read more
