It was probably ‘Inside Man’ which he made already a decade ago and his recent work has been either really obscure and/or really underwhelming. Anyway, at the beginning of the 90’s, Lee was one of ... read more

In my opinion, this is the role that should've won Mr. Washington the Oscar, even more so than Training Day. In this movie, Denzel is Malcolm X. This is one of those rare instances where an actor actually becomes the person whom he is portraying. Denzel Washington tranforms himself into the man who went from being a small-time crook named "Little", to become the larger than life civil rights leade... read more

Good movie, Very long, but still really good. Denzel Washington's best role of his entire career. Spike Lee does a great job directing. It is very underrated. And really good. 9.3

X Marks the Spot

“Malcolm X is cool.

I recently read that this is one of W. Kamau Bell’s favorite movies (his favorite movie by Spike Lee, one of his favorite directors), so I thought I’d dig into the memory banks to see if I could provide my own thoughts.

I just looked and I was surprised by how long this movie is (3+ hours) by the standards of film; I watch movies in pieces like they were books, so I guess a movie never seems ‘long’ to me. Also, it did seem kinda short to me compared to the 600+ page book it’s based on that I read. (His memoir.) It’s trite and half true at best to say that movies aren’t as good as books—it’s based on a bias against visual learning which is pretty colonial and in an odd sort of way, superficial. Especially for a book-to-movie like ” read more

“(Mu) A 'fresco', not at all a 'fiasco'. Malcolm is always marginal and fanatical, when founds his own group and become more politial centered, is too late. He planted all he received and Spike is not too worried in the final balance.... The woman has a very strong character for the 90's...” read more
