A great classic sci-fi horror that thrills by channeling it's chills thru the use of the fears that we tend to hold most as a general populace. The fear that we & our brethen are not we seem to be.
And rarely does the black & white look of the time capture this cultural sub-genre fear of the unknown & magnify it so that even today, Invasion makes the viewer feel the sparseness of trust tha... read more

Since this movie has a really solid reputation, I was really eager to check it out. First of all, it is too bad that I saw before two really weak remakes ('Body Snatchers' and 'The Invasion'), without mentionning the countless copycats such as 'The World's End', as they slightly ruined the story for me. I mean, right from the very start, I already knew how the whole thing was going to play out and... read more

Description: Dr Miles Bennel returns his small town practice to find several of his patients suffering the paranoid delusion that their friends or relatives are impostors. He is initially skeptical, especially when the alleged dopplegangers are able to answer detailed questions about their victim's life, but he is eventually persuaded that something odd has happened, and determines to find out what. This film can be seen as a paranoid 1950s warning against those Damn Commies, or conversely as a metaphor for the tyranny of McCarthy-ism and has a pro- and epilogue forced upon Siegel by the studio to "lighten the tone". ... Slant’s 100 Greatest Horror Films – 2018 Edition (100 movies items)

"Each iteration of Invasion of the Body Snatchers speaks to its contemporary zeitgeist. In Don Siegel’s film, the corrosion of conformity represented by the affectless pod people cuts both ways: a free-floating metaphor readable either as an indictment of communist groupthink or as a condemnation of HUAC’s anti-communist witch hunts. Any way you cut it, Siegel infuses the material with a shadowy noir sensibility, doubling down on canted angles and low-key lighting as the film unfolds, and sho"

"Don Siegel's classic sci-fi thriller has Kevin McCarthy as a doctor who suspects that his community may look and talk the same as they are not. Made in the 50's, this has been compared to what was happening in America with the Communist witchhunts. With its short running time, it cracks along at a terrific pace with the sense of paranoia hanging over the whole film. One of the best of the genre. "

Films that absolutely needed that remake. (10 movies items)

"The original film was very good. The second, a 1977 version, was even better. (The third and fourth, not so much.)"

Films that did not need a remake. (21 movies items)

"This film did not need to be remade, but, in 1977, Director Philip Kaufman made a superior remake. However, the film was remade again in 1994 (Body Snatchers), and 2007 (Invasion). The last two were certainly unnecessary. "

Movie Reviews (1601-1650) (50 movies items)

" Superb science fiction paranoia movie that still hold a punch as it could easily pass as a political thriller too if one take away it's fantastical bits. It's superior direction by Don Siegel and above average leads make this a movie to rewatch numerous times. No wonder there has been numerous remakes over the years. "

I mean, right from the very start, I already knew how the whole thing was going to play out and, as a result, it didn't have such a huge impact. Still, it must have been pretty neat to see this movie in the 50's, when the formula was completely new. Furthermore, I wish they didn't force Don Siegel to add an introduction and this happy-end because the movie, above all with a bleaker ending, would have worked better. Still, it is a really solid horror flick, terribly effective and entertainin” read more
