“I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since it was Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, I was still eager to check it out. Well, to be honest, it wasn’t really good, I’m afraid. Indeed, it seems that, after working with such directors like Terrence Malick or Nicolas Winding Refn, Gosling tried more or less to emulate their style but, to be honest, the end-result was not much better than a really pretentious student art film. "Pretty good directorial debut from Ryan Gosling. The movie is really pretty. This had strong Lynch-vibe to it too."

" DVD- 1hr. 35min. First Viewing Lost River seems to be going for magic realism, or a sort of cross between David Lynch and Nicolas Winding Refn. You can tell Gosling and Refn are BFFs, this movie has that same sleazy feeling Only God Forgives does, in the way where everything is weird but so base level weird that it just seems fake? The same oversatured look as well, which is not even really something I dislike but I'm complaining about it anyway. I really don't know how I feel about this one but there are some undeniably nice visuals and that's kind of all I can really say abo"
