Ghostbusters (2016)
December 5th
Directed by: Paul Feig
I was really surprised by this movie, probably because my expectations were lower than I can ever remember them being for anything else. I genuinely enjoyed parts of this movie and it made me laugh a couple times, but the ratio of funny to not funny is still very unbalanced. All signs pointed to me hating this movie, and I think most people did because it's a remake of a movie everbody loves, and it's absolutely nothing like the original. It's not really anybody's fault, if you had taken any four actors from SNL it would be just as unfunny because SNL is garbage now, and it would never be like the original because blockbuster films are garbage now. You just can't make a movie like Ghostbusters anymore.

So... people hate this movie. I can't figure out why. As someone who hates First Class and Days of Future Past, this is the least offensive of the three. But is it just me? Because the last three comic book movies I just watched, I had no idea why anything was happening at any point. This was just 800 superheroes fighting each other for 2 and a half hours. Why can nobody do this right other than Marvel Studios?

Suicide Squad (2016)

When the trailer for this movie came out I was interested in it. It looked like dumb fun, and it had a lot of cool visuals. None of those cool visuals make any sense in the story or characters but I'm fine with that. Something about the presentation of this movie made me accept that for what it was. Joker meticulously positioned several hundreds of weapons so that he could lie in the center of all of them? Sure, why not. But I thought this movie was going to be dumb fun, and I was very wrong about that. Despite this being the most disgustingly fast-paced movie I've ever seen it felt way longer than Batman v Superman. This movie was edited by a studio that edits movie trailers. I wouldn't think this would be so obvious by watching the movie. It's not like a bunch of editors who happen to edit trailers edited this movie, it's like they intentionally made it like a 2 hour long trailer. In the first 10 minutes of this movie I counted 8 different licensed songs, three of them happening within the span of a minute. What can I say other than "what the fuck?". I was actually baffled by this movie. If you are a person that really likes movies, you can't call this a good movie. I can see how someone could enjoy this, I really can. But this is technically terrible. Unbelievably so.

The first 50 minutes or so were coherent, if not a little boring. If it weren't for Jesse Eisenberg, I wouldn't have much to complain about. But then somehow everything stops making sense at some point and it's all a blur after that. I can't even explain further. There's really nothing interesting about this movie.

I wish I knew beforehand that I was going to watch a "so bad it's good" movie. This movie would have gotten big laughs out of me in the right setting.
