What Was Old Is New Again
Film noir's endless exposition often bores me. This picture charges it up by using electric Raymond Chandler verbosity and crossing a raw, unmistakably '70s look and feel with the restrained storytelling of '30s/'40s classics.

" Fascinating, fascinating. Honestly, how to watch Hays Code era noir after this? As a look at where Hollywood was in the 40's and 50's, I suppose- but honestly it was so eye-opening. One of those films where the very presence of black and Asian folks in it was a statement because it shines the light on how the exact same story would have been portrayed if it had been made in the same year it was set. It is a pretty standard detective story, I do wonder if many of Raymond Chandler films will fee"
