Anchor Bay Appreciation & Collection
Anchor Bay was pretty much the OG of what we now call the "boutique label" (ie, Arrow, Kino Lorber, Shout Factory, etc) for DVD distribution. They started putting out movies when DVD was still in its infancy (and the tail end of VHS), and continued releasing obscure, vintage movies throughout the years. What made the Anchor Bay DVD unique was it's dedication to film preservation (all releases came in an original widescreen format, special features, and a small poster card included in every release). There's no doubt that Anchor Bay paved the way for all the independent distribution labels we have today, and the volume of obscure releases seeing the light of day is growing each year. This list is a salute to them and to share my collection of their releases. Also worth noting that the spirit of Anchor Bay lives on through it's somewhat offshoot company Blue Underground, founded by William Lustig.
