Since I kept hearing some really good things about this movie, I was quite eager to check it out. Well, to be honest, it took me a while to really get into this movie. A tiny bit of a mess, Bugsy wants to be both a quiet character study, a loud mafia epic, and a portrait of a doomed love affair, while winding up being mostly a damn fine entertainment. Bugsy is a mob flick that doesn't even try to compete with other mob flicks. And therefore, it succeeds as a gangster movie that stands out on its own.
