Imagine 100 minutes of scene after scene containing obscene displays of wealth by obnoxious, pretentious, self-centered, condescending people who have complete disregard and utter contempt for anyone who's less than a billionaire. The kind of vain-glorious people you'd never want to spend a moment around. It's been labelled as a rom-com but there isn't any comedy at all in it. "First viewing - Feb. 7th I think I'm one of the few people who didn't see Crazy Rich Asians during its theatrical run, so I figured I'd give it a look and see what all the fuss was about before it left Max on 2/28. It's a solidly entertaining rom-com, and clearly the best part is seeing this kind of story told with POC instead of a bunch of white people. Plus the sets are just gorgeous to look at. “I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since it had been quite successful at the box-office, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, to be honest, the story was rather generic and predictable and I have to admit that I was rather disappointed that at least 95% of the dialogues were in English but it might be accurate since English is apparently the most spoken language in Singapore. And, yet, the damned thing still slowly won me over though. Indeed, Constance Wu and Henry Golding made a cute couple and they had a nice chemistry together.
