Antlers (2021)
In an isolated Oregon town, a middle-school teacher and her sheriff brother become embroiled with her enigmatic student, whose dark secrets lead to terrifying encounters with an ancestral creature.

This was actually a very well made movie. The cinematography was excellent, and the mood of the movie remained dark and ominous throughout. The acting was pretty good, and the special effects were solid. And when we finally get to see the creature at the movie's end, it is truly hideous and grotesque. The movie is rich in imagery and does the mythological creature, the Wendigo, justice. The story does start out rather slow but thankfully picks up in the final 30 mins. As a horror fan, I think it is worth a watch.

Escape Room (2019)
Six strangers find themselves in a maze of deadly mystery rooms and must use their wits to survive.

This movie takes the world's obsession with escape rooms to a whole new level by adding a life and death spin on the popular past time activity. Adam Robitel's low-budget but well-staged horror thriller is one of those nicely constructed genre entries that never takes itself too seriously and fully embraces it's over the top concept to provide some memorable deaths, set-pieces and twisting and turning narrative that seemingly wants to set up future installments. In the end, it's a fun, silly and fairly enjoyable romp.

Three years after he last terrorised his sister, Michael Myers confronts her again, before traveling to Haddonfield to deal with the cast and crew of a reality show which is being broadcast from his old home.

I'm trying to watch all of the Halloween movies I've missed over the years starting with this one. I wish I hadn't bothered to be honest as it's so bad! The plot is irrelevant. It's still the same old song and dance. Michael dispatching annoying people right and left. The only difference between this one and the rest is that it contains more swearing than before courtesy of the embarassment that is Busta Rhymes who stars in the movie. Watching him trying to do some kung-fu on Michael Myers is cringeworthy. All of the cast is terrible. It's truly sad about a Halloween movie being so unoriginal that it borrows from or rips off various other movies. This might be the worst (along with Halloween III) in the entire franchise. Give it a miss unless you're a completist like me.

When a single mother and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

After seeing the trailer, I didn't have high confidence for this movie. However, I was pleasantly surprised and I really enjoyed it. It feels like a worthy successor to the original movie, it doesn't just ignore the past, it supports it. I would advise seeing the original movie ahead of this, as there is a lot of nostalgia surrounding it. I feel like they wanted it to respect the original and it does that alright. It has a good atmosphere, and a really good pace, there's nothing slow about the movie, it doesn't lull, nor did it feel overlong. It's a bit goofy, it doesn't take itself too seriously. For me, the best bit was seeing the original Ghostbusters return even if Harold Ramis' character Egon only appears as a ghost and of course hearing the fantastic tune by Ray Parker Jnr in the end credits. On the whole, this is a brilliant movie that casts aside the woeful female Ghostbusters crapfest that came out in 2016. If you loved the original movie then you definitely need to see this.

A social media personality travels with his friends to Moscow to capture new content for his successful VLOG. Always pushing the limits and catering to a growing audience, they enter a cold world of mystery, excess, and danger.

This movie turned out to be a highly derivative survival thriller that doesn't boast the chills, thrills, or even the gore. The lead here is a vlogger - an annoying Logan Paul character. The movie plays out like a mish-mash of Saw, Hostel, The Game and several other superior thrillers. The familiarity of the traps, dares, and torture chambers put me off. The lack of a strong protagonist (or antagonist, for that matter) can be felt throughout the story. The final twist (which I saw coming a mile away) wasn't good enough to call this perfectly serviceable piece of trash "entertaining". Leave your expectations in the bin!

Candyman (2021)
In Chicago, artist Anthony McCoy and his girlfriend Brianna Cartwright are hosting a dinner for her brother Troy and his boyfriend. Anthony is looking for new inspiration. Upon research he discovers the story of the Candyman and how it relates to the racial struggle in South Chicago. He creates an art piece with a mirror in tribute to the Candyman where he revives the "Bloody Mary" dare.

This isn't a remake of Candyman, it's a sequel to the original movie. The movie has a great creepy atmosphere, I really enjoyed how the movie looked, with a great opening shot of a reverse/mirror-world Chicago skyline and ominous music all throughout. All of the cast turns in committed and convincing performances with the material they were given, the kills are visually interesting, and even the make-up on the new Candyman looked unsettling. Of course it's not the same without Tony Todd as the title character. It's worth a watch but is unlikely to be remembered as anything memorable.

The origins of Sarah Fier's curse are finally revealed as history comes full circle on a night that changes the lives of Shadysiders forever.

The final part in the Fear Street trilogy comes to a thrilling conclusion in this movie. The movie may start out in 1666 but the final third turns full circle and returns back to 1994 for the climax. I enjoyed the third movie just as much as the previous two. The plot continued to surprise me since there were some plot twists that I did not expect and made the movie even more interesting. The ultimate climax may feel a bit predictable and easy, but once again that just feeds into the idea of this being solid and decent. Overall, this was a great way to end the trilogy.

Shadyside, 1978. School's out for summer and the activities at Camp Nightwing are about to begin. But when another Shadysider is possessed with the urge to kill, the fun in the sun becomes a gruesome fight for survival.

If the 1st Fear Street movie reminded viewers of Scream then the 2nd installment has a lot of similarities to the "Friday the 13th" franchise. Perhaps it was a homage to them? This movie proved to be every bit as entertaining as the 1994 movie even though they are quite different. It is also just as gory and brutal with some nasty deaths. The cast ensemble that they put together was good with Sadie Sink (better known from Stranger Things) standing out. If you enjoyed the first Fear Street movie then you most certainly have to carry on and watch this one. Roll on with watching the final part of the trilogy which is set in 1666.

Free Guy (2021)
A bank teller discovers that he's actually an NPC inside a brutal, open world video game.

Total disappointment. After so many good reviews, I went to this with high expectations and it didn't deliver at all. At the beginning, the story of this movie felt very weak, but in the middle there is a drastic change and everything becomes very tedious, the movie takes a long time to resolve the conflict leaving the protagonist aside. The jokes in this movie rarely work - they are very simple and childish. I didn't like the performances of Ryan Reynolds or Jodie Comer. This movie was boring to me because it uses the formula, which is often used in a movie that aims to entertain the audience, where there is an endearing main character, a positive message in between, an underdeveloped romance and many conveniences in the plot. I'm sure many will enjoy it but it wasn't for me.

This movie follows the life and times of Alan McGee, the founder of the iconic Creation Records label. The story spans the years from his turbulent teens in a conservative Glasgow household, to the genesis of the label, and its eventual phenomenal success, a drug-fuelled breakdown, and a phoenix-like renewal. It's structured as a a series of interviews with a journalist in which McGee casts an eye on his career. I'm not sure how much of the story is real or made-up for the movie. It does run out of steam during the final 30 mins. Some of the bands that Creation signed are only briefly mentioned, even Oasis aren't on for that long. Ewan Bremner is pretty good as McGee and the music featured is fantastic. An interesting but flawed movie.

A teenage murder witness finds himself pursued by twin assassins in the Montana wilderness with a survival expert tasked with protecting him and a forest fire threatening to consume them all.

I did not have high expectations for this movie but I have to admit that it was interesting, it had some good scenes and plenty of suspense. It had some plot twists that made it even more interesting and good character development. The direction by Taylor Sheridan was fine. Nothing wrong with any performances by the cast. Aidan Gillen was a nasty piece of work as the villain. All in all, this was a enjoyable movie to watch and while away 100 mins.

Sam was abandoned by her hitwoman mother Scarlet some years earlier. The older Sam has followed in her mother's footstep by becoming an assassin for her boss Nathan. When a job goes wrong, Sam needs to look after a little girl and get help from three women who were her mother's comrades called the Librarians.

Like its title, Gunpowder Milkshake comprises of two ingredients: OTT girl-power action and calculated coolness. The problem is that writer/director Navot Papushado only gives us a single scoop of each, and doesn't blend them together very well. He also borrows from action cinema old and new and fails to stamp his own mark on the movie and is content to mimic others, delivering an unsatisfying pastiche rather than something new and bold. The cast is just OK. Nobody really stands out. Karen Gillan doesn't quite suit the role of bad-ass assassin. As a mindless piece of action fluff, this is entertaining enough for a one-time watch.

Offered a plea deal by the FBI, William O'Neal infiltrates the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party to gather intelligence on Chairman Fred Hampton.

An interesting and thought-provoking drama, based on a true story. It shows the confrontational relationship, a war, essentially, that existed between African-American political activists and the police at the time. It also shows the needless bloodshed it caused, largely by the police, and the excessive, heavy-handed, illegal methods also used by them. While the police are clearly in the wrong, the Black Panthers are hardly angels either. For all the good they do in black communities, their militantism just adds fuel to the fire. LaKeith Stanfield and Daniel Kaluuya put in strong performances in this movie. In the end, a provocative piece of film making that doesn't shy away from some of the least savoury aspects of human nature.

American car designer Carroll Shelby and driver Ken Miles battle corporate interference and the laws of physics to build a revolutionary race car for Ford in order to defeat Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966.

This is a sports biopic that aims to tell the story of the two men who forged Ford's first racing car. While it initially seems as though it's going to get lost in the corporate politics of car manufacturing, it soon becomes clear that it's far more concerned with its two leads and their strained-but-loving dynamic. By doing this, it skirts the usual biopic issue of cramming a 101 life events into a two-hour run-time whether they're really relevant or not. Basically, it crafts a compelling narrative from its 'real life' story, adapting things in a very satisfying way. Matt Damon and Christian Bale are excellent as the leads. The racing scenes are the movie's highlight though; they're fast, suspenseful and technically sound. The piece manages to get you invested in the inner workings of such driving, and such cars, even if you've never given it a thought before. It is a bit too long and a good 30 mins should have been cut but on the whole this is a very good movie.

A quiet drifter is tricked into a janitorial job at the now condemned Willy's Wonderland. The mundane tasks suddenly become an all-out fight for survival against wave after wave of demonic animatronics. Fists fly, kicks land, titans clash -- and only one side will make it out alive.

A completely off-the-wall and fun b-movie starring Nicolas Cage. From the first time we see Cage's nameless drifter he doesn't utter a single syllable and conveys everything in his character through facial expressions and body language. It's definitely an interesting choice giving how well known Cage is for both his distinctive voice and his trademark yells and rants, but his performance here is definitely a good one. There's a very surreal humour at play in this movie with Cage's stoicism where he takes getting attacked by killer animatronics in stride yet remains dead set on fulfilling his agreement to clean up the place. The animatronics are actually really well done and the bloody deaths will keep gorehounds interested. Overall, this movie takes a gleefully insane premise and delivers it with passion and energy to spare. Well worth watching if you want to see a fun horror movie.

When an all-powerful Superintelligence chooses to study average Carol Peters, the fate of the world hangs in the balance. As the A.I decides to enslave, save or destroy humanity, it's up to Carol to prove that people are worth saving.

I like Melissa McCarthy, she has great comedic timing, she can act and she is genuinely funny. I was looking forward to watching this movie, but I was so disappointed. She really deserves better than this. This movie also has the added irritation of James Corden, who nobody really likes in the UK. If the movie had concentrated on just Carol and the A.I it might have been OK but it went down the pathetic slushy route of being with Carol and the man she likes. I actually found myself not caring what happened to anyone. This movie promises a lot but never takes off. A shame.

A hearing-impaired girl is visited by the Virgin Mary and can suddenly hear, speak, and heal the sick. As people flock to witness her miracles, terrifying events unfold. Are they the work of the Virgin Mary or something much more sinister?

This movie had an interesting story that made me want to watch it but I'm sorry to say that the filmmakers didn't do a good job. It is painfully average and generic. It has a goldmine at its disposal with its clever premise, and instead it throws every good idea by the wayside to instead fill its running time with cheap jump scares and lazy exposition. It looks and feels like a cheap TV movie and the CGI is poor. Jeffrey Dean Morgan does his best but even he can't save this. Is it worth checking out? No, it's not.

In 1916, Dr. Lily Houghton enlists the services of skipper Frank Wolff to sail her down the Amazon in search of the fabled Tears of the Moon which has powers to heal any illness.

What an awful movie this was. This has all the charm of being trapped inside of a pinball machine. That's literally what this movie feels like! And, at a certain point, the plot falls apart on you. There was no chemistry between The Rock and Emily Blunt. This is just silly eye candy for kids. The movie is sloppily written and poorly executed, even for a kids movie! The CGI is even poor in many scenes. It may find an audience in little kids but adults will feel short changed in the crappy story and bad jokes throughout the movie. Terrible.

Set in 1998, this origin story explores the secrets of the mysterious Spencer Mansion and the ill-fated Raccoon City.

The latest Resident Evil movie tries at a more faithful adaptation of the game that definitely has its moments and some satisfyingly accurate recreations but still has too many problems and lacks both the fear and genuine horror to be a truly definitive adaptation. It takes way too long to really get going and then abruptly ends making it feel extremely rushed. Kaya Scodelario, Hannah John-Kamen, Robbie Amell, Tom Hopper and Avan Jogia all give good performances but none them truly embody their iconic characters. This unfortunately has nothing to offer those who hanker for a proper adaptation of the game.

All the rules are broken as a sect of lawless marauders decides that the annual Purge does not stop at daybreak and instead should never end.

Gathering up another ensemble of B-listers and recognisable faces such as Josh Lucas, Ana de la Reguera and Cassidy Freeman, this movie at first appears to be more of the same but thankfully we get a different taste of Purge action this time around as a group of die-hard American's decide they're going to keep the Purge activities going for as long as they deem fit as director Everardo Gout infuses his tale with a more topical and political examination of America's social climate at this day and time. However, poor script work, unlikable or unengaging characters and a lack of scares hurt this movie's chances of becoming much more than a merely distracting and time passing experience. It's a watchable if unspectacular new entry to a franchise that refuses to say goodbye.

This is the 2nd part of the recent (and unnecessary) Halloween franchise reboot. It follows on directly from the end of the previous movie (which I haven't seen). As it is part of a trilogy you know that Michael Myers will not die in this one and it's just an excuse for him to go on a gory murdering spree. If you've seen one Halloween movie you've seen them all. Nothing changes plotwise. It's basically an empty worthless movie. Jamie Lee Curtis doesn't do a lot here. She's wasted more than anything. I hope that the final movie in the trilogy which comes out in October 2022 will be a lot better than this. Gorehounds should get a kick out of the nasty deaths that take place. Average at best.

Nobody (2021)
Hutch Mansell is just your average everyday nobody trying to live a quiet life with his wife and kids. Everything changes though when two intruders break into his home one night and steals an important item belonging to his young daughter. After tracking the thieves down, he takes down a group of obnoxious teens on a bus with all of them needing hospital treatment. Unfortunately one of the teens is the brother of a big-time Russian mobster and he wants Hutch dead.

This is a brilliant action movie, similar to the likes of John Wick. There's a lot to like here, primarily the action sequences and the casting. Bob Odenkirk is awesome as Hutch and the less I say about his character's background the better for the viewer. Christopher Lloyd as Hutch's father is a blast to see. The action is exciting, brutal and, eventually, balls-to-the-wall ridiculous. It escalates as the movie progresses and is always enjoyable, its fast-paced but typically grounded choreography framed with clean yet visually pleasing cinematography. On the whole, this is a pleasing action movie which will satisfy most fans of the genre.

With Las Vegas infected by zombies, billionaire casino owner Bly Tanaka approaches mercenary Scott Ward about a heist to recover $200 million from his casino vault before the military destroys Vegas with a tactical nuclear strike.

Director Zack Snyder seems to have copied elements of Aliens and Oceans 11 for this ultra violent action/horror movie. I liked this movie because it was mindless fun. The only thing I did not like was the duration of it which was too long. The performances from the cast aren't too great with Dave Bautista barely watchable. One character is even a rip-off of Vasquez from Aliens but you'll see other similarities to that movie as well. This is a big visual extravaganza and all the zombies look horrifying and their make-up is terrifying as hell. Unfortunately the storytelling is outdated and I'm sure Zack Snyder could have created a far more interesting plot. Anyway, on the whole if you're into zombie movies this is watchable enough but don't expect anything less than something you've seen before.

The 1984 David Lynch movie was a box office flop and has been garnered with mixed to negative reviews over the years but it wasn't too bad in my opinion. Now in 2021, director Denis Villeneuve has given it a shot and has created a pretty good sci-fi movie. The story flows very well and the visuals and special effects are fantastic, from the spaceships and alien creatures to the interior and exterior locations and large-scale battle scenes. The cast are all good. Timothée Chalamet makes for a good young hero with Stellan Skarsgård also great at being the nasty and grotesque villain. The 2021 version of Dune is a great spectacle, and hopefully the second part (scheduled to be out in 2023) will be just as exciting. It's a worthwhile epic science-fiction adventure.

It's 1981. The Warrens are participating in the exorcism of a boy named David Glatzel. It leads to the case of Arne Johnson who murders his landlord with the Warrens convinced that a demonic possession made him do it.

Another good sequel to the franchise. Like it's predecessors, this movie is also based on a true story which gives it authenticity in this unnatural genre of storytelling. The opening scene is extremely scary and that hooks you into the narrative for next 100 minutes. There are no boring moments at all, instead there are few cliches which comes with certain amount of interesting backdrop. The two main leads are as reliable as ever with their performances. All in all, this movie remains faithful to its franchise values and continues haunting the viewers with the same impact.

Widows (2018)
When four women are widowed all in one night their lives were inexorably altered. If it wasn't bad enough with no husbands and little to no means to support themselves, they find out that the drug dealer their husbands had stolen from wants his money back.

What a great movie by director Steve McQueen. One way to describe the story in the movie is to say it's the tale of ordinary women becoming sophisticated gangsters, taking over the profession and learning the skills of robbery mastered by their husbands. It's hard to tell what kind of movie this is supposed to be: it's not a light comedy or a heist movie although it certainly flirts with both genres at various moments. The action elements are there but they are not terribly spectacular or very inventive. The focus seems to have been more on the psychology of the characters faced not only with the truth about the way their husbands made for a good living, but also obliged to replace them in crime. Fine acting by Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, and Elizabeth Debicki who make up the main trio in the story. Robert Duvall, Liam Neeson and Colin Farrell contribute with their talents in supporting roles. In the end, this is a solid movie that should interest most people who enjoy this kind of story.

Peppermint (2018)
A woman watches her husband and young daughter murdered on the orders of a drug lord. She swears revenge and vows to take them all out.

This is a highly entertaining action movie of revenge. The plot is the traditional story of injustice and vengeance with a top performance by Jennifer Garner as the vigilante Riley North. A woman who has no choice but to take matters into her own hands after the legal system fails her due to corrupt law officials and police officers. The story is predictable but the action sequences are fantastic with bloody, brutal, sometimes gory, violence. If a 'one-person army' popcorn movie is what your after, then you can't go wrong with this one.

It's difficult to describe just how bad this movie is. Imagine 100 minutes of scene after scene containing obscene displays of wealth by obnoxious, pretentious, self-centered, condescending people who have complete disregard and utter contempt for anyone who's less than a billionaire. The kind of vain-glorious people you'd never want to spend a moment around. It's been labelled as a rom-com but there isn't any comedy at all in it. It's the type of movie that makes you cringe throughout. The plot is non-existent. The cast are all awful...well Michelle Yeoh might be OK but everybody else is crap. Two detectives Han-So and Mintae are trying hard and soul to catch the killer of a young schoolgirl. While solving the case, Han-so takes the help of his underworld connection. After that things started to turn ugly when his underworld informant kills a person. The informant starts threating him and asks him to cover the case for her. Mintae on the other hand starts thinking something really fishy is going on with Han-So.

This great Korean movie follows two detectives' rivalry and their extreme competition of proving oneself better than the other. There are many twists and turns in this film. The first half is suspenseful and intriguing, but ultimately it all becomes a bit too contrived and convoluted and quite unbelievable as it goes on. Still, I really liked it especially the wonderful performance by Sung-min Lee. Director Jung-Ho Lee creates genuinely creepy and shocking sequences that ramp up the tension alongside the power struggle between the two leads. In the end, this movie remains a gripping and grim tale of male ego, power dynamics and the risks people will take for control and respect.

Following the events at home, the Abbott family now face the terrors of the outside world. Forced to venture into the unknown, they realize the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats lurking beyond the sand path.

A fantastic sequel. It begins by going back to when the aliens arrived on Earth and then it continues from Part One, only this time it takes place on the move rather than just being set mainly in one location. The best thing about this movie is the action and the numerous jump scares. More survivors are shown but they don't really move the plot at all. It has a bit of an odd ending in that it stops very abruptly but I guess that means there will yet be another sequel. The main cast all perform well. Sequels can be a bit of a disappointment but this one isn't. If you loved the first then you've got to check it out.

Farmer Grant's children get him to buy a cow from another farmer. The children work hard to make the cow fit and healthy enough for the show ring but the cow is stolen one night. The kids try to discover who the thieves are?

Just your usual bog standard CFF movie with a predictable storyline. The one thing that stands out in this movie is it has a young teenage Phil Collins as one of the kids but as he was apparently a bit of a dick on set he is written out of the story for 3/4 of it until he comes back for the climax. The humour is dated and not very funny although small kids would find it amusing I imagine. A passable enough movie that wastes an hour of your time.

On the run from a lethal assassin, a wily con artist devises a scheme to hide out inside a small-town police station-but when the hitman turns up at the precinct, an unsuspecting rookie cop finds herself caught in the crosshairs.

This movie which reminds the viewer of Assault on Precinct 13 is decent but uneven. It feels like something Quentin Tarantino and John Carpenter would combine forces on. The weak plot is intertwined between violent shootouts and feisty one-liners. It's a bit slow going at the start but it gets a good pace about half way through. Good acting from the cast with Toby Huss stealing every scene he's in. So in the end, it's worth a watch for some enjoyable set pieces.

A young woman Ellie learns she's been accepted at the London College of Fashion, and off she goes to London. She ends up renting a room on the top floor of an old house owned by an old lady. With stars in her eyes, Ellie falls asleep and when she wakes up, she's back in the Swinging 60's with the new James Bond movie Thunderball playing in the cinema. Is she dreaming? Or has she been transported back in time?

This genre offering from director Edgar Wright is a love letter to numerous horror movies of the 60's. On a merely visual level, the movie is a mind-bending odyssey through two women's lives in two starkly different time periods, drenched in neon lights. The cinematography is stunning, and there are numerous impressive optical effects. The performances here are uniformly strong, with Thomasin McKenzie leading as the quiet, nostalgic Ellie, and Anya Taylor-Joy playing the tragic swinging 60's counterpart. British veterans Terence Stamp and the late Diana Rigg have integral supporting roles here and are both effective in their parts. There are two unexpected plot twists during the final third of the movie. Overall, this is a fantastic psychological horror effort that, despite some repetitiousness in the middle, still stands up as a stylish movie that sticks to the terms of its vision for better or for worse. Give it a go.

It's 1994 in Shadyside, Ohio. A masked killer attacks a mall after closing time. It's the latest in a series of regular folks turning into serial killers dating back to 1666 with a witch killing. A group of teenagers get entangled in the town's curse.

Feeling like a brisk combination of Stranger Things and Scream, this is the first part of a horror trilogy. I enjoyed the movie for what it was. I found it entertaining from beginning to end. It isn't scary per se, but it is very tense to watch and I often found myself on the edge of my seat. All the actors do their best, but many of the characters feel a bit generic and seem to serve no purpose other than to fill in the character gap needed in their story structure. There are quite a few cliches throughout, and I feel the story wasn't taken full advantage of, and instead skimmed through. All in all, a great start to a trilogy and I'm looking forward to the next installment which is set in a camp in 1978.

This is a medieval tale told with fancy visuals and intriguing storytelling but for some people it will be too slow to hold their interest. It's based on the 14th century poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and someone who is interested in medieval tales can surely find it interesting but let me warn you that this 130 mins movie does not offer any pacy flow or exciting battles. When it comes to fantasy stories, people expect some fun, engaging narrative and adventurous entertainment along with eye-pleasing visuals and The Green Knight provides nothing expect for beautiful visuals. On saying that, the performance of Dev Patel as Gawain is fantastic. One of the main reason why people should watch this movie. The supporting cast are also great. In the end, The Green Knight is watchable and good but many viewers will be put off by the slow storyline.

Black Widow (2021)
While being pursued after the events of Civil War, Natasha Romanoff finds herself embroiled in a plot against the Red Room Widow programme from which she defected to SHIELD. This involves her getting re-entangled with the sleeper cell "family" with whom she spent her childhood in rural Ohio.

This is a pretty good superhero tale that gives Scarlett Johansson her own movie that gives some backstory to her character. Marvel movies are renowned for their great action sequences and this one is no different. The cast ensemble is also good. Scarlett Johanson is cool but Florence Pugh stole the spotlight playing her little sister. The movie does slow down a bit in the middle but thankfully picks up again for the exciting climax. I didn't think the main villain Dreykov played by Ray Winstone was that good. It was bizarre to see Romanoff watching the Bond movie Moonraker on her TV! Overall another solid MCU effort and I hope that Florence Pugh's character returns in a future movie.

Old (2021)
A group of tourists that are dropped off by their hotel shuttle at a "private beach". Shortly after arriving at the beach they realise they can't leave while more and more people keep dying or getting killed. Over very short amounts of time everyone on the beach rapidly ages. They try to uncover a way off the beach and why this is happening.

This is the latest mystery thriller movie by M. Night Shyamalan. The premise of the movie with its intriguing story is quite promising and will keep you watching until the very end. This movie doesn't leave any questions unanswered. The atmosphere is tense and gripping. The acting performances is at times wooden from some of the cast. At the end of the day, Old is worthy of being watched once but it's overall an average movie that will soon be forgotten.

I wasn't too impressed by the 2017 version of this movie which was directed by Joss Whedon. It was average at best. Now the original director Zack Snyder completes the movie in the vision he wanted it to be and to be honest it is so much better. It's not a masterpiece and yes, it goes on for way too long at 4hrs but I liked it. The story is separated into titled chapters and the plot is more involving and in-depth (something that didn't really happen in Whedon's version). It is also now a more character orientated tale. The action sequences in this iteration of Justice League also feel far more fleshed out and eye-catching. Whilst the running time will test the patience of a lot of viewers, I feel this version of Justice League rights the wrongs of the previous cut. It may not be a classic movie but its an enjoyable and old-school like epic filled with lots of goodness.

The Last Duel (2021)
Two old friends (a knight and a squire) are ordered to fight to the death by the King of France after the knight's wife accuses the squire of raping her.

Directed by Ridley Scott and based on a true story of apparently the last duel that ever took place on French soil in December 1386. Told in 3 chapters and from 3 differing viewpoints (much like the classic Japanese movie Rashomon), this is a very good historical drama. The 3 versions of the story was an interesting idea especially with the case being about his/her word against his, although by the time it got to the wife's version of events the viewer had already seen twice, some of it with little or no difference. The duel climax is intense and thrilling. The cinematography is excellent and the directing by Ridley Scott is up to his usual high standards. Great performances by Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Ben Affleck, and Jodie Comer. Although it did run a tad bit too long, I still very much enjoyed this movie. If you don't mind seeing some scenes repeated then this movie could be right up your street.

A man is welcomed into an ancient Japanese clan called the Arashikage after saving the life of their heir. With a roll of the dice...Snake Eyes is born.

This is the origin story behind the G.I Joe character Snake Eyes. I'm not overly familiar with G.I Joe which was re-named as Action Force in the UK but I enjoyed this action movie. The story isn't complex and it may be lacking in scale, but it has lots of Japanese culture and style and plenty of fast paced and exciting action scenes. The acting and characters are OK, although some characters are brought in for little to no reason. Henry Golding is fine as the title character. It is set-up for a sequel judging by the final scene. Watchable enough.

Lifelong friends Barb and Star embark on the adventure of a lifetime when they decide to leave their small Midwestern town for the first time ever after losing their jobs

I came to this movie not knowing anything about this movie but it was obvious in the first 5 mins I had instantly regretted turning this on. The whole movie is a disjointed and incoherent mess and most importantly it is not funny. Not even a smirk provoking, only plenty of groans. The musical interludes only added to the pain. The two main characters are really annoying. Kristen Wiig is usually good in her movies but she is absolutely dreadful here. I'm sure this movie will find an audience but for me it was the pits.

John Parker is a 19 year old young man from Manchester who embarks on a journey to Brighton, the spiritual home of the Mods, on an old Lambretta scooter left to him by his late father in order to scatter his ashes.

This was an enjoyable tale. It's a light, coming of age tale which invokes distant memories of Quadrophenia but only by association. The crux of the tale is a road trip undertaken by John to scatter his father's ashes at Brighton beach. He is aided by the feisty Nicki, brilliantly portrayed by Sacha Parkinson who adds some real class and comic timing to the proceedings. Jessie Birdsall also has a pivotal and poignant cameo. The music isn't as prominent as I would've liked but the story and the little mysteries uncovered along the way made for a great movie.

Lily travels to a new town with her mother Helen, to move in with Helen's new partner Adam, a motivational author, and his three sons. Her disastrous first day at the new school sees her become friends with Lourdes, Frankie and Tabby, three women and aspirating witches, whose coven has yet to produce any results. Their power is unlocked when Lily becomes their fourth and they soon use their powers for revenge against bullies at the school.

I'm surprised it's taken until now to produce a sequel of sorts to 1996's The Craft which was a great movie. Unfortunately this movie is a bit of a disappointment. For one thing the witches are lacking detail. We don't know much about their backgrounds and they are not the dark witches that were portrayed in the original. These girls are white witches. This fact alone takes away from what was I was expecting. The big bad evil played by David Duchovny is very weak and the way he's despatched at the climax is poor. I quite like the acting by the four witches though and I'm not sure if the final scene is setting up for another sequel or not? This movie isn't a total disaster but it could have been a whole lot better.

This is a modern spin on the Oliver Twist story. It's been criticised a lot by many viewers but it wasn't too bad. Yes, the story is rather weak but the cast try their best to make it work. The art heist is fairly dull and workmanlike and even the build up and planning involved feels a bit formulaic so there isn't much in the way of surprises. Michael Caine plays Fagin with Lena Headey taking on the role of the psychotic Sykes. Rafferty Law as Twist is OK but I can't say he's a good actor here. The parkour scenes might interest some people. All in all, if you can open to your mind to a different telling of a classic story then you might enjoy this movie.

A group of super villains led by Bloodsport which includes fan favorite Harley Quinn and Peacemaker are on a mission to a small military run island off South America to destroy a tower containing a secret lab and the associated records.

I quite liked the original Suicide Squad movie in 2016 but this one is definitely better. It's wonderfully imaginative, very funny and excessively gory. The action, humour and general spectacle never stops with so many great characters and delightfully choreographed action set pieces. Idris Alba is great in the lead with fine support from the rest of the cast but with special mention for Margot Robbie who shines as Harley Quinn once more and Peter Capaldi as The Thinker. It is wildly OTT and gets even more so towards its spectacular climax, but if you can live with the bizarre ideas here, it's great fun.

First of all, did I enjoy this movie from Christopher Nolan? Was I entertained for the entire duration which was quite long? On both questions I have to answer yes. Now I don't consider myself as stupid, but I'm not a genius either, but this movie is so hard to follow, almost at the point you're frying your brain to figure out what's going on. I'm happy I'm not the only one that didn't understand much of the complexity of the story. Tenet is just one of those movies that need your full constant attention, very difficult to understand but that isn't bad for the matter. The cinematography is great, with excellent action scenes, and a cast that did a very good job. John David Washington and Robert Pattinson, the two main characters are pleasant to watch. In conclusion, I'm surprised I liked this movie as I didn't get it all.

The 9th in the Fast & Furious franchise moves further and further away from what it should be: car chases and all about cars. They do things with cars but it becomes all a bit exaggerated and laughable. It's still entertaining but a rocket car going into outer space in order to destroy a satellite! Come off it, that is bloody ridiculous if you ask me! The regulars all return with a new addition in the form of Dom's brother Jacob played by John Cena plus a face from the past who was supposedly dead returns as well. All I can say is just enjoy this far fetched movie for the action.

I was really looking forward to this as I enjoyed the first movie but I ended up being disappointed by it. It is all over the place. It starts off promisingly enough but as soon as the big bad character Cletus is introduced the thing really hits the skids. The entertaining elements from the first movie, the humour and dare I say it, the symbiotic relationship/tolerance of man and alien are thrown under the bus for this angry CGI fest. It looks great but the plot is almost non-existent, and that robbed the formidably sarcastic "Venom" of much of the charm that made the original work. I didn't hate the movie, it has a pace that passes 90 minutes effortlessly enough, but overall I was really disappointed.

Martial-arts master Shang-Chi confronts the past he thought he left behind when he's drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organisation.

With no real concept of the character or the story, I didn't really know what to expect from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. I was pleasantly surprised. This Marvel action movie is above average, and features impressive visuals, engaging action scenes, and entertaining characters. There are some missing pieces in the story, which they may be saving for later, but overall, I enjoyed this introduction to a new MCU superhero.

Earth is on the verge of annihilation. After nine victories by Outworld, they are one loss away from the Earth being conquered. Cole Young, Sonya Blade, and Liu Kang must defeat the warriors of ruthless Outworld Emperor Shang Tsung.

A decent reboot. It's colourful, chaotic and even a bit camp; it's silly but it knows it, emulating the feeling of playing the fighting game with friends rather than the feeling of being engaged in brutal, to-the-death bouts against vicious, otherworldly opponents. Fans of the games will find plenty of enjoyment here. The story is essentially an excuse to get its stars involved in one-on-one bouts with one another and make references to their video-game counterparts. The action, save for a couple of odd edits, is well-choreographed and energetic. Even though it has many faults, I enjoyed this movie.
