High on Film - bob loblaw's Desert Island picks
After a completely mediocre or just plain terrible film, and I mean one of those complete-waste-of-my-time-I-think-I-just-died-a-little-bit-on-the-inside films, one might get pessimistic and argue that movies don't have a whole lot of ground to cover anymore. That every story has been told, every rock turned, the golden years are long gone, etc.
Still, in my film viewing I find those rare (or rare-ish) moments when watching the images in the tv or in the silver screen I get excited again about the whole medium in general and see the possibilities it holds within.
These are the kind of films that make me think that maybe there's still something I haven't seen. It doesn't matter whether this realisation comes from chainsaw-wielding prostitute with wooden leg or tea drinking postal worker with an existential crisis.
So this is just a list of films that have gotten me high on film. In no particular order.
This will also serve as my 101 Films for a Desert Island list for the time being.
