Suspiria is like a ride through an amusement park funhouse with candy-colored lights, eerie music, and scares that come out of nowhere. Hitchcock is on tap here as well as Bava, both an obvious influence on Argento. Never has horror been so gorgeous and artistically rendered. The cinematography, set design, and lighting are all oscar-worthy. Yes, the gore is extreme, but balances out evenly with t... read more

Verified Purchase This review is for the Suspiria Blu-ray by Nouveaux Pictures. Suspiria (1976) was made by Italian horror director Dario Argento. I had no idea who Argento was before I saw Suspiria. This is a very powerful film experience, especially in the department of looks and sound. I is also very original, I haven't seen another movie like this. The plot is simple enough: an American Girl, ... read more

Noteworthy for its detached, delusory setting and characterised by express shifts in light and colour, "Suspiria" accurately captures the visceral perception and sensation of a nightmare, which in this context centres on witchcraft. In part inspired by the vivid hand-drawn cut-out animation of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", the film was shot with evocative Eastman colour stock and Technicolor ... read more

A young American dancer travels to Europe to join a famous ballet school. As she arrives, the camera turns to another young woman, who appears to be fleeing from the school. She returns to her apartment where she is gruesomely murdered by a hideous creature. Meanwhile, the young American is trying to settle in at the ballet school, but hears strange noises and is troubled by bizarre occurrences. She eventually discovers that the school is merely a front for a much more sinister organization.

This is a very powerful film experience, especially in the department of looks and sound. I is also very original, I haven't seen another movie like this. The plot is simple enough: an American Girl, Susie Banyon (played by a young Jessica Harper), arrives to Germany to join a dance academy. The academy is run by witches. The story feels closer to fairy-tales, like Grimm brothers, than usual gore/horror.

The strength of Suspiria is how it looks and sounds: the colors (vivid red, blue and green) are fantastic and create a very fairytale-like effect (similar in styl” read more

31 Days of Horror (Halloween) 2021 (34 movies items)

" Date: 10/31/2021 Viewed: 4K UHD Re-Watch Note: Happy Halloween everyone (Halloween is probably over by the time when I post this review). I chose to end October by watching my favorite Italian film in 4K UHD. I know a lot of people have already seen this film, so I'll try to keep my thoughts to a minimum. Suspiria is a masterpiece of Italian horror. Suspiria is the perfect blend of exploitation and art-house cinema. It's not as high brow as a Federico Fellini film, but it's classier than mos"

"Re-watch - Oct. 14th Back in the '00s, one of my closest friends hosted a horror marathon in October. That night, we saved Suspiria for last & it's safe to say that by the time we got to it nobody was in the right mood for it. I didn't fully realize this at the time, but as a result I thought it sucked. As time has passed I came to the conclusion I should give it another chance. It rarely seems to pop up on streaming services, however, so when I found out one of the local theatres here was show"
