Note: I always wanted to watch this movie for ages, but I can never find a copy of it. I don't remember it being released on R1 DVD or VHS when I was growing up. Thanks to Film Club Secret Cinema, I finally had the chance to watch this movie for the first time on the Criterion Channel. After watching this movie for the first time, I really like this movie a lot.

The movie has a fascinating story because it feels very poetic at times. The movie is filled with many interesting characters that are pretty memorable and the actors did a wonderful job of acting their roles. The movie is filled with many great twists and turns that it had my jaw dropped during certain scenes of the movie. This movie also has a great chilling atmosphere that feels very dark and spooky
at times.

The movie almost felt like a mixture between Seven (1995) and Memories of Murder (2003) because the movie had a similar atmosphere and vibe to them. Unlike Memories of Murder, this movie has very little comedy in it. I don't have anything bad to say about this movie other than the last act of the movie starts to feel slow at times. Other than that, I still really enjoy this movie.

Overall, Cure is a great gem from the 1990s that is worth checking out. I recommend watching it with no knowledge of the movie because it's better to know nothing about this movie when watching it.

Note: Today was a rainy day and I decide to rewatch this movie because I haven't seen it since I was a little kid in the 90s. It's not as bad as most people make it out to be, but it's still not a very good movie. The movie has a cool premise, but the execution is poor. Hudson Hawk is a pretty neat anti-hero character, but the other cast of characters are forgettable. The worst part of this movie is the comedy because most of it is not very funny.

Some jokes in this film made me laugh while the rest of the humor is pretty cringy at times. The movie even adds dumb Looney Tunes style sound effects during certain scenes in the movie. It's like if the director and writer want to remind people that this movie is a comedy. During half-way through the movie, the movie really starts to drag. I was constantly looking at my phone for the rest of the movie because this film started to become so boring.

I can see why this movie has a cult following because the movie does have some camp value to it. Overall, Hudson Hawk is a mediocre movie and I recommend not watching it unless you're really curious.

Note: This movie goes under many different titles. I will be using The Tough One as the movie title for this review.

I remember seeing parts of this movie (under a different title, I think) on Turner Classic Movies when I was 10, but never saw the full movie. Nearly 20 years later, I finally saw the movie from start to finish on Blu-Ray. This movie is awesome and is a nonstop thrill ride from start to finish. The movie is filled with fast-paced action that will put you on the edge of your seat. There's not a single boring moment in this movie and the movie does not overstay its welcome after running for 95 minutes.

The story does not always make sense, but I didn't go into this movie hoping for something smart or deep because it's a Grindhouse movie. Unlike most popcorn flicks that come out today, the movie does not dumb things down for the audience and was made before CG was even a major tool in movies. This movie also has a great soundtrack by Franco Micalizzi and amazing camerawork by Federico Zanni. I was surprised how well the camerawork was in this movie because the movie is shot so well. The Blu-Ray from Grindhouse Releasing is wonderful because the picture and sound are top-notch. It almost feels like that I'm watching the movie being released in theaters back in 1976.

The actors did a good job of acting in this movie for the most part. Maurizio Merli and Tomas Milian play the best characters in this movie because they play awesome and memorable characters in my opinion. Tomas Mlian as The Hunchback is a character that I will always remember because the character feels rather iconic for having a fun personality. I didn't like the last act of the movie because it felt rather rushed and the ending feels so abrupt. It's almost like that they ran out of ideas on how to end the story.

Overall, The Tough Ones is a solid action movie and it is worth checking out if you enjoy Grindhouse movies or action movies in general.

Note: This is a movie that I wanted to see for a while now after hearing good things about it over the last few years. I end up watching the movie with no knowledge because people told me to go into this movie blindly. To be honest, I had no idea what this movie was actually about, but I feel like that was the point of this movie. This movie was pretty mind-blowing for how surreal and creative it was. When I was watching this movie, I felt like I was in a trance and I did not want to move. I was totally sucked into this movie from start to finish.

The movie feels like I'm inside someone's weird dream because the movie has a dreamy vibe to it. This movie has a lot of strange imagery and moments that it is almost impossible to talk about without spoiling it to people (I normally don't like writing spoiler reviews). The movie has amazing cinematography by having colors similar to what you see in silent movies from the early 20th century. Many scenes in this movie were shot in Kinemacolor which is an early type of color in silent films, and they did a wonderful job pulling it off. This whole movie is done in a style reminiscent of many classic silent movies from Georges Méliès, Cecil B. DeMille, Robert Wiene, F. W. Murnau, etc. You can really tell that the film crew had a lot of love and respect for those filmmakers from that era.

The movie also feels like one big mixed bag of genres such as sci-fi, fantasy, adventure, horror, and even comedy. Some scenes in this movie feel pretty scary at times for how creepy and strange during certain scenes of the movie. I was also even surprised at how funny this movie can be because the movie has generally funny moments. I do wish that the movie didn't have any sound dialogue at all because the movie would feel more unique if they didn't have any sound when the characters are talking. Other than that, I can't think anything else that I did not like about this movie.

Overall, The Forbidden Room is a surreal experience and I enjoy every moment of it. If you are not into non-linear movies, this movie is not for you. However, if you enjoy avant- grade movies then check it out.

Note: Today is my 29th birthday and I decided to watch this movie because it felt like the most cliché thing to do. I thought that I saw this movie growing up as a kid on TV, but it turns out it was the wrong birthday theme movie (Happy Birthday to Me). After watching it on Shudder, it was not bad.

It's not a great movie by all means, but it is still enjoyable for what it is. The movie is entertaining for having decent kills and a surprisingly creepy atmosphere. The child actors did a good job on their roles because they were able to pull off being both nice and deadly at the same time. The other cast of characters in this movie are pretty enjoyable as well. I also like that the movie is under 90 minutes and does not overstay its welcome. The only thing that I didn't like about the movie that some characters act really stupid during certain situations of the movie (How do the main characters not have a house phone when it's 1980?).

Overall, Bloody Birthday is a fun 80s horror movie that is worth checking out if you want something dumb and fun.

Trancers (1984)

Re-Watch

Note: I was looking at my Blu-Ray collection for a movie to watch and decided to watch this movie because I haven't seen it in ages. I remember stumbling upon this movie on late-night TV when I was a little kid in the mid-90s and loved it. Watching it again 25 years later, I still think that this movie is awesome.

The movie has a solid atmosphere by mixing cyberpunk and neo-noir into one. The movie has slick production values and great lighting for a low-budget indie movie. This movie feels that it could have easily been a big-budget Hollywood movie at the time with the awesome special effects and great cinematography from Mac Ahlberg. The movie also has an awesome cast of characters that are pretty well done in my opinion. Tim Thomerson as Trooper Jack Deth is a great action character that has a memorable personality.

The acting in this movie is cheesy, but that's what makes it fun. The movie also has pretty cool world-building and the idea behind Trancers is awesome (Time Traveling Brainwash Zombies). The movie does share similarities to Terminator, but both movies are still pretty different from each other. Not to mention, I remember reading that Charles Band was unaware that James Cameron was working on his time travel theme movie when creating Trancers. The worst thing about the movie is that the narrative makes relatively little sense. The time travel in this movie is pretty sloppy and they should have polished the script more before they made this movie. I also do like that the movie runs at 76 minutes and does not feel rushed. The movie moves at a nice pace and tells a decent story from start to finish.

Overall, Trancers is a solid sci-fi action movie that is worth checking out. It's no masterpiece, but I still recommend it for people who enjoy sci-fi movies.

Note: I wanted to check out this movie for a while now because I hear amazing things about this movie since 2016. After watching it for the first time on Netflix, I'm very impressed by this movie. I love that this movie is a slow burn that does not overstay its welcome by dragging the story to death. The story is so fascinating that I was not bored at all when watching this movie. The movie is filled with many scary moments that really took me by surprise. This is a movie that you need to watch with no knowledge of the story because you will enjoy the movie better by knowing nothing about it.

What I love about this movie the most is the atmosphere because the movie is so dark and chilling. I can literally feel the cold windy weather in this movie and I love it when a movie that is set in a cold windy setting (Like Under the Skin (2013) for example). I can go on how they handle the atmosphere so well, but I don't want to be too repetitive in this review. The performances in this movie are great including Emma Roberts. I never have seen much of Emma Roberts outside of Nickelodeon shows from the 2000s and Scream 4 (2011), but she did a fantastic job in this movie.

I do wish that they explain certain scenes in the movie better, but I still really enjoy this movie nevertheless. Overall, Blackcoat's Daughter is a great movie and I highly recommend it to horror movie fans. I can see myself rewatching this movie again in the near future.

Note: I remember hearing about this movie over the years and never saw it until now. After watching it on Hulu, I thought it was a pretty good movie. I normally don't like British comedy because British humor is not really my cup of tea, but the movie had some hilarious moments that made me laugh. I like all the characters in the movie and the acting was solid. The only thing that I didn't like about the movie is that it took me a while to get invested in the story. Other than that, I'm glad that I finally saw this movie.

Overall, The Full Monty is a pretty good movie and it is worth checking out if you enjoy British comedies.

Note: I remember seeing this movie in theaters when it came out back in 2003 when I was 12 and loved it. After rewatching this movie as an adult, it's not a bad movie. This movie is not the "be all end all" like most people make it out to be, but the movie is still a fun popcorn flick.

The movie has great production values that still hold up after 17 years later except for the CGI. The CGI in this movie has aged terribly and it looks so bad when it is on screen. This movie still has fun action sequences and a fun cast of memorable characters. Even some of the humor still holds up pretty well. The story is not bad even though there are some plot holes in this movie that do bother me a bit.

The worst thing about this movie, in my opinion, is the long runtime because the movie is 2 and a half hours long when the story for this movie could have been easily worked for a 1 hour and 50-minute movie or at least 2 hours at the max. I feel like the movie starts to get repetitive and a bit boring between the first visit to the coin chest and the last visit to the coin chest.

Overall, the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie is not a bad movie and it holds up surprisingly well. If you never saw it before, it is worth checking out. I recommend skipping the sequels because none of them are very good in my opinion

Note: I never heard of this movie until Arrow Video announced that they were going to release it on Blu-Ray in April. I later hear that this movie got a lot of good word of mouth, and I was quite eager to check it out now. After watching this movie, I end up liking it a lot. The movie is a dark comedy that is fun and over the top with a lot of violence, blood, and gore. This movie doesn't take itself too seriously and knows what it is trying to be. The movie has a simple premise and knows how to have fun with it. The humor and violence in the movie are very funny and well done in my opinion.

The movie does have a classic Sam Raimi vibe to it and I'm glad that the movie didn't use any CGI for the special effects. The movie even uses sound effects from Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry to make them over the top violence even funnier. Outside the violence and humor, the movie has a pretty decent story. The movie runs at 95 minutes and does not overstay its welcome. This movie does a good job of handling the cast of characters and there's enough breathing room in the story to introduce these characters to the audience. You also have some cool twists and turns that will you take by surprise as well. I do recommend watching this movie without reading any spoilers.

Overall, Why Don't You Just Die! is a fun energetic dark comedy that it is worth checking out if you enjoy splatter films. I can see myself watching it again in the near future. This is a movie that is perfect for a Friday or Saturday night if you want to chill out and relax.

Note: With Possessor coming out soon, I decided to rewatch this movie on Hulu. I remember finding this movie to be super boring when I first saw it in 2015, but now I love it. David Cronenberg may not direct horror movies or abstract movies as he used too, but his legacy carries on in his son Brandon Cronenberg.

The movie has similar practical effects, surrealism, and a sinister atmosphere similar to his father's older movies like Rabid (1977), Videodrome (1983), and Dead Ringers (1988) in my opinion. This movie is not a tame movie because this movie has plenty of gross moments that are well executed in my opinion. Nothing in this movie is gross just for pointless shock factor and it is needed for the story of this movie. The acting in this movie is solid and I love the cinematography that this movie has. Everything in this movie is beautiful to look at.

The movie is pretty slow at times, but the hostile atmosphere and emotionally draining story make up for it. I love the social commentary on celebrity-obsessed culture and how companies make people become sick just for money (Sounds similar to what is going on right now in real life). Awful corporate companies will make people sick and die just for cash and it truly shows in this movie. This movie also shows how many people will do anything to be like their celebrity heroes even if it kills them. The movie has so much great subtext that I can go on forever about.

Most people will probably not like this movie because it's gross, slow, and abstract. However, I really enjoy this movie and I keep liking it more, the more I think about it. I highly recommend watching this movie if you haven't seen it yet.

Note: I was browsing around Netflix for a movie to watch and I notice that this movie was on there. I haven't seen this movie in forever and decided to revisit it. This movie may not be high art, but it is a lot of fun for what it is. Cheech and Chong play two iconic movie characters that are still funny today in my opinion. The movie is filled with a lot of funny iconic moments that still make me laugh hard.

The movie also has a great soundtrack with many good songs from the 1960s and 1970s. This movie is also the granddaddy of Stoner comedy movies as well. You have to thank this movie for Bill & Ted, Jay & Silent Bob, and Harold & Kumar. Overall, Up in Smoke is dumb fun and it is worth checking out.

This movie has fantastic acting and great writing in my opinion. The movie has a very good story that is heartwarming that will make you smile. Every character in this movie is memorable and not a single one was flat or cliche. It's also fun to see Ken Watanabe during his early days because he does a great job of playing a memorable character in this film.

I don't have anything else to say about this movie other than it's a great classic movie. I highly recommend this movie for anyone who enjoys Japanese cinema.

Note: I saw the first Laid to Rest movie for the first time recently back in April, and I was looking forward to seeing the sequel. The first Laid to Rest movie was not a good movie by any means, but it was pretty fun for a slasher movie. I thought this movie was going to be a step down compared to the first movie, but it's not. This movie is just as fun as the first movie.

The writing and acting in this movie is pretty weak, but the special effects, gory kills, and the atmosphere make up for it. All the special effects in this movie are practical effects except for one scene in the movie. All the death scenes look so bloody, gross, and even a bit realistic at times. The special effect crew in this movie did a wonderful job and I can't thank them enough for making awesome special effects. I also love the dark and moody atmosphere that this movie has as well. ChromeSkull is a fun slasher movie villain even though he is hardly the most original slasher movie villain. He looks cool and is probably just as brutal as Jason Voorhees when killing his victims. When he is on-screen, it's fun to see what he will do next.

Overall, ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest 2 is a fun horror movie sequel and I'm glad that I finally watch these two movies. They have become my new favorite guilty pleasures. If you enjoy the first movie, you will probably like the second movie. I don't recommend the Laid to Rest movies for the squeamish.

Note: I remember seeing the advertisements for this movie when it came out a few years ago in 2017, but I never had the chance to see it. I always thought it looks like a fun movie to watch because the movie has a really cool premise. Despite this movie getting bad reviews, I still watched this movie with an open mind. After renting the movie from Amazon Prime, I thought it was okay.

This is not the worst movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger, but it is far from being good. The story in this movie has a lot of potential to be awesome because I love the idea of a group of hit men working together to take on a bigger and stronger hit man. However, poor writing really hurts this movie because this movie tries so hard to be funny. The movie does have some hilarious moments while the rest of the humor falls flat. Some characters in this movie are pretty enjoyable while the main character was super annoying to sit through.

Arnold Schwarzenegger as Gunther is a fun bad guy, but he does not show up until the last 30 minutes of the movie. The movie has a pretty neat plot twist that is pretty meta and cool. The movie also has some decent production values, but some CGI in this movie is awful. The scene with the snake getting killed was so badly done because it was done with poor CGI. While this movie was not very good, I still found the movie to be entertaining and not boring. It was only 92 minutes and ended rather quickly.

Overall, Killing Gunther is an average movie at best. I only recommend this movie for a rainy day or if you're really curious.

Note: This movie recently turned 40 years old and I decided to rewatch it for the 40th anniversary. I also haven't seen the movie in over 15 years, so I also wanted to see if my opinion on the movie has changed or not. I'm going to keep my review on this movie as short as possible because I feel like plenty of people already seen this movie.

I think this movie holds up pretty well because I love the atmosphere that this movie has. The movie does a wonderful job of making a dark and spooky movie that is set at a summer park. I also love how the movie is set during a rainy night because it makes it more atmospheric thanks to the wonderful score from Harry Manfredini. You also have great special effects from Tom Savini that still hold up as well.

I do admit that this movie is far from perfect because some acting, and dialogue is not very good, but I do think Betsy Palmer did a fantastic job as Mrs. Voorhees. The movie still has a fun cast of memorable characters and the plot twist in the movie is very well done. If you saw this movie back in 1980 for the first time, you would never imagine what would happen next.

Overall, the original Friday the 13th movie is a solid movie and would later kick off a huge pop culture phenomenon. Check it out if you haven't seen it yet.

Note: I remember hearing about this movie nearly a year ago and I hear it was a pretty good movie. So I went into this movie knowing about it other than it was released by Saban Films. I almost felt iffy about watching this movie because Haim Saban has a bad track record when it comes to being a TV and movie producer. After watching this movie on Amazon Prime, I thought this movie was pretty good.

This is a movie that you need to watch without knowing anything about the movie because this movie is filled with many surprises. The acting is pretty decent and the cinematography was surprisingly good. The movie has solid lighting and the colors that they use for the night sky are well done. There are some moments in the story that could have been written better, but I won't go into spoilers about it.

This movie is absolutely hilarious from start to finish because the humor is so well done. The movie is filled with many great jokes and does an amazing job of making fun of the advertising world, racism, and corporate crime. The movie also has satirical commercials that are pretty well done. I can see where Robocop (1987) got its influence from when making satirical TV commercials. You also have many memorable characters and moments that you will still be thinking about after the movie is over.

I assume that TubiTV is using the same transfer from the Blu-Ray released by Vinegar Syndrome because the movie looks great in HD. Note: I never saw this movie growing up, but I do remember when my parents rented it on VHS like 25 years ago. After watching this movie for the first time, I thought it was a pretty good movie. The movie has a nice dark atmosphere and solid special effects. The blood and gore are very well done because they did a good job of making them feel genuinely disturbing. The movie almost had a Re-Animator vibe to it in my opinion.

The story is far from perfect because the writing in this movie could have been better. There are several scenes in this movie that make no sense at all. I don't get how Bill (the main character) and the other characters with the body parts from Charley (the main villain) are able to act on their own. The movie never explains how someone can have the memories of another person just by having their own armor can somehow act on their own. Despite the flaws in the story, I still find the story to be both interesting and entertaining. At least the movie was not boring and it didn't feel rush despite it running under 90 minutes.

The acting in this movie is pretty decent, and they did a good job with their roles. Brad Dourif is always fun to watch on-screen, no matter how bad the movie is. Overall, Body Parts is a fun horror movie that is worth checking out.

Note: This is a movie that I always wanted to see for years because I really enjoy Possession (1981) and I always wanted to see more movies from Andrzej Zulawski. Not to mention, I like surreal and slow-burn art house movies. Thanks to Exmilitary, you can watch it legally on their website. After watching this movie for the first time, I thought this movie was incredible.

This movie is very long and will probably turn off most people who are not into artsy movies. However, the movie has a glorious payoff after the movie is over. Every moment in this movie blew me away because this movie is very atmospheric and surreal. The movie has surrealism that almost reminds me of movies from Alejandro Jodorowsky and Andrei Tarkovsky. This movie makes you feel like you are on another planet with these characters after you get yourself sucked into the movie's atmosphere.

Not to mention, the cinematography is wonderful to look at. Every scene in this movie feels like it could belong in a museum. The movie is also dark and sick that it is done in the right way. Every violent and gross moment in this movie is important to the story. None of it felt like that it was added for pointless shock value. Andrzej Korzyński also does the music for this movie and it is excellent. The music really fits with the movie's tone and it even feels very creepy at times.

The story in this movie is also fantastic and I love how this movie deals with Anti-Establishment, Anti-Authoritarian, and Anti-Imperialism. The movie can easily be looked at as a big middle finger to the big governments that exist in Poland and other parts of the world that exist during the Cold War. You also have this movie dealing with people questioning their faith and the rise of civilization as people become more violent over time in the movie. You can easily interpret the story in this movie as the history of humanity on Earth, and we are doomed to repeat the same mistakes if we moved on to another world.

Overall, On the Silver Globe is a masterpiece and I loved every minute of it. The more I think of this movie, the more I love it. I highly recommend this movie for anyone who loves art house movies.

Note: I never heard of this movie until very recently. I went into this movie with an open mind because the premise for this movie sounds pretty cool. After watching this movie, I was rather disappointed with this movie, to be honest. I found the movie to be rather boring and I didn't care for any of the characters. The first 35 minutes of the movie was a chore to sit through because I felt like not much was happening. I also didn't like how stupid the main character and the other characters were in this movie.

The ending of this movie was pretty bad, and they left things unexplained. While I didn't think this movie was not very good, I still think it was well-made. I do like the creepy atmosphere that this movie has and the acting is not bad. I think they did a nice job of making the movie feel like that it can happen anywhere in real life. I will give this movie credit for effort because they did try to make a good movie.

It's not the best movie that I've seen from Lars Von Trier, but I still enjoy it nevertheless.

I normally don't like musicals because I can't get into them unless they are different from most typical musicals like The Rocky Horror Picture Show, or Cannibal the Musical. However, this movie is the reverse from your typical musical because it's dark, serious, and has no happy endings. The story is very bleak and you will probably feel depressed after the movie is over in a good way. This movie has a great cast of characters and you really feel a strong emotional connection with them. My jaw dropped during certain scenes when watching this movie because I didn't see it coming.

Nothing in this movie is predictable and the story will have you on the edge of your seat on what will happen next. The movie also knows how to handle melodrama without being overly dramatic or cheaply sentimental. The acting in this movie is fantastic and I even enjoy the musical tracks. The music in this movie is catchy and memorable in my opinion. The only thing that I didn't like about this movie is that it is a bit too long. The movie should have been 2 hours, not 2 hours and 20 minutes.

Overall, Dancer in the Dark is a very good emotional roller coaster ride from start to finish. I do want to watch it again when they release an HD transfer of this movie because I had to watch the movie in SD (standard definition) and the picture quality did not age well.

Note: I decided to rewatch this movie because I haven't seen it in years. The last time when I saw this movie, I was 16 and I remember loving it. After watching this movie again on the Criterion Channel, I still love this movie. 2046 is still my favorite movie from Wong Kar-wai, but Fallen Angels is still a fantastic movie nevertheless.

I always love the camera work and cinematography that this movie has because the movie is wonderful to look at. I also love the urban city feeling that this movie has because the movie does a fantastic job of capturing the feel of Hong Kong. It almost feels like you are in Hong Kong with these characters in real life. You also have a great story that knows how to tell two stories that have little to do with each other without being a total mess. The characters in this movie are memorable and I also like how the story deals with moving on from the past.

I don't have anything else to say about this movie other than it's a masterpiece. Check out Fallen Angels if you have never seen it before.

Note: I remember seeing this movie when I was a kid on HBO at my aunt's house, but I barely remember any of it other than the opening. I'm going to count this as a first viewing because I don't remember the rest of this movie. After watching this movie on TubiTV, I thought this movie was not bad.

This movie is far from perfect, but it's still entertaining nevertheless. The special effects are pretty good for a low-budget movie from the early 90s and I love the atmosphere that this movie has. The scenery in this movie is great and it does a great job of capturing the feeling of gothic horror. The story is not very original and it is pretty messy at times, but you still get a fun cast of characters that are pretty likable in my opinion. You also have some stop-motion animation in this movie that looks pretty good as well.

Overall, Subspecies is a fun vampire movie that is worth watching if you've got time to spare. I do want to check out the sequels now.

Note: With Robocop being a DLC guest fighter in Mortal Kombat 11 soon, I decided to rewatch the original Robocop movie. I watch the Arrow Video blu-ray and the transfer is fantastic. The 4K restoration of the movie made me felt like I was watching this movie for the first time because the picture was so clear and the sound was top-notch. Robocop is a movie that I loved as a kid and it never gets old when I rewatch it.

There's not much that I can say about this movie that has not been said already. The movie has great action, funny dark humor, and groundbreaking special effects for its time. If you never saw the original Robocop before, do it now. You won't regret it.

Note: I haven't seen this movie in years and decided to rewatch it with my family because my sister and her boyfriend never saw this movie before. I think this movie holds up pretty well and it is Spike Lee's most underrated movie in my opinion. The movie may not be 100% faithful to the real-life events that happened back in 1977, but the story is still pretty well told in my opinion. This movie has a good cast of characters and the actors did a great job on their roles. I really like the chemistry between Vinny (John Leguizamo) and Ritchie (Adrien Brody) because Spike Lee did a great job of writing these two characters.

I also like the atmosphere that this movie has because it is set during the 1970s in New York City and it almost makes you feel like that you are with these characters during that time period. Spike Lee also did a great job of creating a social commentary on people driven by our ignorance and fear. In 1977, you had people who were driven by their own ignorance and fear due to the blackout in New York City, the super hot summer heat, and the recent murders committed by Son of Sam. This movie shows that people can get hurt or killed if we allow people to be driven by our ignorance and fear. It's almost like what is going on today in our current world with the Coronavirus with people getting sick and killed by their own ignorance.

The soundtrack in this movie is also very good as well with many great hit songs from the 1970s. This movie is pretty long and I do agree with most people that this movie goes on for way too long. They could have cut down 10 or 15 minutes of the movie and the movie would still be good.

Overall, Summer of Sam is a solid movie that is worth checking out. It may not be Spike Lee's best movie, but it deserves a higher rating from critics and moviegoers in my opinion.

Note: I remember when this movie was coming out back when I was in High School in 2007, but never got released until a decade later (Probably due to MGM's financial issues going on at the time). I thought I might as well check it out because it's now free to watch on Amazon Prime. I thought this movie was going to suck, but I end up liking it a lot.

This movie was very well-made because they did a good job of making the video footage look as authentic as possible in my opinion. The footage looks believable and the graphic violence in this movie looks disturbing. Some scenes in this movie give me the chills because it almost feels like something that could happen in real life. All the actors did in this movie did a great job on their roles because they feel like and act like people that you would know in real life.

There are some things in this movie that don't make sense like when they have a mother of a victim who saw him up close but was too scared to give out any information about his appearance to the police? Also, how is the killer able to get sperm from the sperm bank without any background check (Unless he stole it which is likely). Other than that, I still really enjoy the movie nevertheless.

Overall, The Poughkeepsie Tapes is a solid found footage movie and I do recommend it if you are into urban legends like snuff films and underground pornography.

Note: I remember when this movie came out in 2018, but I never saw it because it had a very small release in theaters. Nearly 2 years later, I finally watched it on Amazon Prime and I thought it was very good. They did a wonderful job of making the movie feel authentic of the 1990s in my opinion. As someone who was a little kid in the mid-90s, I felt like they did a good job of capturing the pop culture of that time period because I remember a lot of the stuff in this movie as a kid. I also like that the movie didn't pander nostalgia to the viewer's faces (The movie was not like "Hey remember this cool thingy!! Only 90s kids do!!").

I also like the story and characters because I thought both the story and characters felt pretty realistic to me. I knew plenty of people like this growing up that would always go on a reckless search for thrills and always get themselves hurt in the end. So many of the themes in the story like family, love, and brotherhood are very connected to me. You also have a great soundtrack with many good songs from 1995-1996 in this movie as well. The only thing that I didn't like about this movie was the abrupt ending.

Overall, Mid90s is a very good movie and I do highly recommend watching it.

Note: I always remember hearing about this movie growing up, but I never saw it until now. I bought the Arrow Video Blu-Ray because it was on sale on Amazon Prime. After watching this movie for the first time, I like it. It's not the best Giallo movie, but it's still a solid movie nevertheless in my opinion.

The cinematography in this movie is fantastic because the movie is very colorful to look at. You also have a pretty interesting story and the acting is surprisingly good. I thought the movie did have a slow start, but the movie started to kick off after 30 minutes into the movie. I was also surprised how tame that this movie was with the violence because most Giallos are always pretty gory.

Overall, The Forbidden Photos of a Lady Above Suspicion is a pretty good movie and it is worth checking out.

Note: I haven't seen this movie since 2002 when my friend and I watched it on VHS. It was probably the first NC-17 movie that I remember seeing at that time along with Showgirls. After watching the movie again on Blu-ray, I think this movie holds up very well. I love that this movie feels like a 1970s grindhouse movie made in the 1990s. You can feel the sleaze and grittiness of New York City when watching this movie.

The movie really sucks you into the dark atmosphere when watching this movie. This movie is not for the faint of heart because it's very dark, edgy, and violent. The movie knows how to use its graphic content without feeling pretentious or trying too hard to be shocking. This movie shows the dark side of American society that we live in every day. You won't be finding any fun or humorous moments in this movie.

The story is pretty well done on how they handle Christian faith and symbolism in the story. Abel Ferrara did a great job of making you feel an emotional investment with the characters in the movie. You also have solid acting from the actors in my opinion.

Overall, Bad Lieutenant is a great movie and I do recommend it if you enjoy dark and serious movies for adults.

Note: I remember hearing good buzz about this movie over the years, but I never saw it until now. The movie is a 3 hour NC-17 movie, so I always need to be in the right mood and mindset to sit down and watch it. I do like watching long movies but with certain movies, I do need to be in the right mindset to watch it. Thanks to the Film Club's Secret Cinema, I finally sit down and watched this movie on Netflix. I also went into this movie with no knowledge of the story. After watching this movie on Netflix, I thought this movie was very good.

I never read the graphic novel other than a few pages, so I can't compare it. I will be judging the movie on its own merits because I feel like adaptions should be view as stand-alone titles. For a 3-hour movie, I was surprised by how well the pacing was in this movie. The movie moves at the right pace without feeling super slow. The story in this movie is excellent because the movie does a great job of having you being an emotional investment with the characters. The story is raw, powerful, and emotional from start to finish. Adèle (played by Adèle Exarchopoulos) is a great main character and is a character that most people can relate to because she is trying to find her true self deep down. Adèle goes through a lot of rough moments in the movie that you almost want to cry at times.

The movie has a lot of graphic sex scenes and it will probably turn away most people. The graphic sex scenes in this movie are important to the story and characters. None of the graphic content overshadows the plot and has a reason to be in the movie. Some earlier sexual stuff in the movie bothers me because Adèle is 15 during the start of the movie, and she is having sex at that age (Yes, I know Adèle Exarchopoulos is over 18). I really don't like seeing kids and teens being used in sexual ways, but thankfully, they never crossed the line in my opinion. However, I do feel like the sex scenes go on for way too long in this movie. They started to become so long at the point, I started to get bored and started to look at my phone. People thought the sex scenes in Gaspar Noé's Love (2015) were long, but this takes the cake for me.

Overall, Blue Is the Warmest Color is a great emotional powerhouse and I do highly recommend this movie if you can handle graphic sex scenes.

Note: It's been a while since I have seen this movie and I got the movie on Blu-Ray last Christmas. I decided to watch the English dub from VSI/Eleven Arts because I only have seen the movie in subbed and I was curious to see what the dub sounded like. I honestly like this movie better on a second viewing.

I do think the non-linear characteristic can be confusing at times for people who are not used to that type of storytelling. The non-linear storytelling makes the movie feel unique in my opinion. I still think the story is very well done and I can't help shed a tear at the end of the movie. Satoshi Kon did a wonderful job of telling an emotional story from start to finish.

The animation is still fantastic and the movie is almost 20 years old. The dub is not bad at all, but I do prefer the Japanese version because I felt like the voice actors did a better job of acting. The Japanese voice actors did a better job on capturing the characters and their emotions in my opinion.

Overall, Millennium Actress is a fantastic movie and I highly recommend it if you never saw it before.

Note: I still remember when this movie came out back in 2007, but I never saw it at the time. 13 years later, I finally watched the movie on the Criterion Channel for the first time and I really enjoy it. The pacing in this movie is great because it didn't move slowly at all. The movie is 2 and half-hour-long, but it feels like a 90-minute movie.

This is the first movie that I've seen from Lee Chang-dong and I'm glad that I picked this one as my first. The cinematography in this movie is wonderful because everything is pretty to look at. The acting in this movie is fantastic and Song Kang-ho steals the show like he always does. I really like the story in this movie because you can feel the emotional pain that the characters go through in this movie. Watching this movie makes you feel sad that everyone is alone in their suffering in the film. Even finding faith in your life does not always bring happiness.

There are some moments in this story that I don't agree with, but I won't spoil it. Overall, Secret Sunshine is a great movie and I highly recommend watching it.

Note: I have been looking forward to this documentary because I really enjoy Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s “Island of Dr. Moreau (2014) from Al Adamson, and I was quite eager to check out the next documentary from David Gregory. After renting this documentary on Amazon Prime, I really enjoy it.

I always found Al Adamson to be a fun filmmaker and I knew about his death for ages. It was super cool to see the history of his movies and the film crew that helped him make his movies. I love that Al Adamson made movies for fun and was never trying to be the next big Hollywood director. I have a lot of respect for filmmakers like Al Adamson, Ted V. Mikels, Roger Corman, Herschell Gordon Lewis, etc. because they know what movies that they wanted to make and knew their audience very well.

It's a shame that Al Adamson was later killed in 1995 because it would be cool to see him alive today. I still highly recommend checking out this documentary when you get the chance.
