Climax (2018)
Note: My second favorite Gaspar Noe movie next to Enter the Void (2009). It felt like I was watching a drug trip of Dante's Inferno at a dance club. The visuals and soundtrack are fantastic that really suck you into the movie. While the movie may have a very simple plot, I did like how the movie deals with themes like drug use, unwanted pregnancy and LGBT relationships. This movie shows that style over substance is not necessarily always a bad thing when you know how to do it right.
I really want to watch this movie again and I feel mad that I miss out on this movie on the big screen.

Note: Wow, this movie was amazing! I loved every bit of this movie from start to finish because the visuals and story was awesome. The bright trippy colors and the 16mm film grain makes this movie feel like a classic grindhouse movie from the 70s-80s. I also love the goth/metal/punk soundtrack and the gore effects in this movie. The story is pretty simple, but I felt like they did a good job on creating the characters in this movie. They are all relatable and you care about them as well. I also like that this movie covers the themes of drug addition and over working your self to be the very best artist.

Note: This movie is incredible and I highly recommend this movie. This movie has great characters, fantastic acting and a great social commentary on the class divide in Korea. This movie didn't have a single dull moment and this movie is over 2 hours. The only thing that I didn't like about the movie is a bit slow at times.

Note: I love Sion Sono's work, and I was so hyped up for this movie when I first heard about it. I got the chance to watch the movie on Netflix and loved every bit of it. This movie has a 2+ hour runtime and it doesn't drag at all. I love the characters, story and the cinematography that this movie has. All the characters felt relatable and you really care about the characters in this movie. I also love the themes of this movie which deals with people being doing crazy stuff for love, manipulating, domestic violence.

High Life (2018)
Note: This is a great dark atmospheric sci-fi movie that has good acting and great imagery. I love the story and the themes that this movie has. The movie did a great job on making you feel alone in the middle of nowhere in Outer Space. It's a slow burn, but I love these slow burn movies because I can get myself sucked into the movie's atmosphere.
I'm glad that these type of movies are still being made even if they are not mainstream films.

Note: I'm so glad that surreal trippy art house horror movies have made a comeback lately with movies like Mandy, Bliss, Climax, etc. I love the story and the characters that this movie has. All the characters are likable and you really feel for the struggle that the main character is going through.
It's also refreshing to see a horror movie that deals with mental health issues. Not to mention, I haven't seen any movies in a while that deals with schizophrenia.

Midsommar (2019)
Note: This movie is 147 minutes long and not a single moment was boring. I loved the cinematography and atmosphere that this movie has because this movie is wonderful to look at. Not to mention, I love how surreal this movie can be at times. I haven't seen a movie that is surreal, gory, and absolutely beautiful at the same time probably since Antichrist (2009).
AVPGuyver21's rating:
The Lighthouse (2019)
Note: The Lighthouse is a great movie from start to finish in my opinion. The movie felt like a mix between a David Lynch movie and a James Whale movie. This movie has amazing cinematography and great acting. Both Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe did an amazing job on their roles.

Uncut Gems (2019)
Note: This movie was fantastic from start to finish. I havenโt been on the edge of my seat through a majority of a movie since Nightcrawler (2014). This movie is over 2 hours and not a single moment was boring. The acting was great and the characters are very well done. I also love the cinematography because it almost has a film stock feel to it. Not to mention, the music in this movie is also awesome.
AVPGuyver21's rating:
Note: The John Wick movies keep on getting bigger and better for me. The action is great as always and I love the world building that this movie has. The mythology that they added in the movie makes things feel nice and fresh. If you love the first two movies, you will love this one.

I Lost My Body (2019)
Note: Another solid animated movie from France. The animation was fantastic and I love how the story was told. I also really like the characters in this movie and how believable that they felt. Not to mention, the music in this movie is fantastic as well.
The best thing about this movie is the themes of the losses in life that many of us go through, and how we keep on finding the way on why we continue to live. I can relate this movie because I'm someone who deals with being lonely and have lost many people that I cared about in my life.
AVPGuyver21's rating:
Note: This movie is a great comeback for Eddie Murphy that I have waited for over 20 years for. Eddie Murphy does a great job on playing as Rudy Ray Moore that it felt like that I was watching the real version of Rudy Ray Moore on screen. Not to mention, I felt like this movie was very funny and heartfelt at the same time. I'm pretty sure this movie is not 100% true to the real story of making this movie, but that does not bother me.

First Love (2019)
Note: It's not Takashi Miike's best movie, but I still really like it. The action is top-notch and the humor is very funny. I also love all the characters because they are memorable, and they all had nice personalities to them. The only thing I didn't like about the movie was the twist was a bit predictable. Overall, this is a great action movie and I highly recommended it.

Hagazussa (2017)
Note: The movie has a slow start, but it does pick up as time goes on. I do like how the movie has very little dialogue and uses symbolism to tell a story. The atmosphere is fantastic and it really did give me goosebumps when watching the film. I also love the cinematography because everything in this movie is wonderful to look at. This movie is not for everyone, but I do recommended it if you are into art house or slow burn movies.
AVPGuyver21's rating:
Note: Not the best movie from Tarantino, but I still enjoy it. The movie had a solid story and the acting was great. I personally really like the story because the movie is set in the late 60s, and we get to see what Hollywood was going through at the time. The late 60s was the transition between old Hollywood and modern day Hollywood that we would know today. My biggest issue with this movie is the slow pacing. This movie can drag a lot and some scenes felt like they go on forever. Overall, I still like the movie a lot and it is worth checking out.

Honorable Mentions
My favorite movies of 2019. Some of these movies are from 2018 but didn't get a major release until 2019 in my country (The US). If a movie is not on the list, I probably didn't like it or haven't seen it yet.
