Inferior to the classic of 1971 with the great Gene Wilder, but Johnny Depp does a very good job with the iconic character, Tim Burton's sets are a delight to the eyes.

Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Much inferior to the original, which is a masterpiece of cinematic art.
BUT
It stands alone (like the original), has a solid story, charismatic and three-dimentional characters and lots of suspense, essential for a good horror plot.
Flawed, yes, I am a huge fan of the original, yes, yet I say that this one is worth a look.
This one got my attention for future Zack Snyder films, and so far, I've been more pleased than unpleased with his filmography.

The Departed (2006)
This is a very rare case where the remake surpasses the original.
The cast and their chemistry are amazing, the direction is flawless, and the plot goes much beyond than that of the ogirinal chinese film, which is also pretty good, but this one is a Masterpeice.

The films here aren't exactly better than the originals. Some are, some not. But differently from most remakes, those are worth a look.
