Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from this flick but since I always had a weak spot for Sydney Lumet’s work, I still wanted to check it out. Honestly, I have never been a huge fan of the genre but it is probably one of the worst musicals I have ever seen. A musical seems like an absolutely odd choice for a director like Sidney Lumet, a director that was preoccupied with grit and realism. Description:
Dorothy, a twenty-four-year-old kindergarten teacher born, raised, and still working in Harlem, is celebrating Thanksgiving with her extended family, but she doesn't seem to be thankful for much in life. She lives a self-imposed sheltered life; she is shy and unfulfilled. Things change for her when she is caught in a snowstorm while chasing after her dog, Toto. Movies Viewed in 2018 (361 movies items)"Based on the stage musical, this updated version of The Wizard of Oz has Diana Ross as Dorothy finding herself in a strange land longing to get home. Michael Jackson is the Scarecrow while Richard Pryor plays the Wiz. While the songs and the energy re strong, the visuals, impressive as they are, look dated now and the overall effect is messy and sometimes confusing. "
