The Grudge (2004)
Not scary but ridiculous and over the top. The way the movie deals with time is a novelty but only this can't save it.
Paulo Júnior's rating:
Kill List (2011)
It's on my thrills list, but because the direction is very good, it reminds me of Tobe Hopper's Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and this is high praise! But the plot doesn't matter, it doesn't make sense and, considering reviews calling it twisty, or saying it has a twist ending, I can't condone it if it lacks sense.
Paulo Júnior's rating:
I should've known better than to expect the outcome of one of Shyamalan's newer movies to not be the most predictable one.
Paulo Júnior's rating:
Frailty (2001)
It is creepy. It's also extremely predictable, simplistic and dumb. And the ending is just terrible., possibly the worst ending they could end the movie on, very anticlimactic.
Paulo Júnior's rating:
Despite the complexity, it only gets you after you see the movie.
Paulo Júnior's rating:
One of the worst, most boring movies I've ever watched. Possibly the worst movie in this list.
A Simple Plan (1998)
I read high praise, but the movie is so simple from beginning to end!
Paulo Júnior's rating:
Interesting yet underused sci-fi concepts in an unambitious sugary romance film with a murder mystery that has almost no screen time and so much back and forth and blood exams that you'd be excused from thinking it's an ad for blood donation.
The obvious solution was the one all along and the supposedly smart guy didn't think of it.
Paulo Júnior's rating:
Batman Begins (2005)
The drabbest, most uninteresting version of Batman. It's basically Boring Batman.
Paulo Júnior's rating:
The Exorcist (1973)
It's just disgusting, I don't think there was terror, tension and it was boring and dull most of the time.
Paulo Júnior's rating:
Donnie Darko (2001)
It's just a bunch of made up rules happening onscreen, I don't know what's so special about it at all.
The ending comes out of the blue and it's utter unforeshadowed nonsense
Paulo Júnior's rating:
Memento (2000)
It's interesting and there's a (predictable) twist in the end. This is one of the better films on this list.
Paulo Júnior's rating:
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
It doesn't make any sense. I know people say they find meaning in it, but to me this is like Evangelion's ending, it makes no sense and is supposedly philosophical/clever/ambiguous. Bullshit, it's just pretentious.
Kubrick's cinematography is top-notch, though.
Paulo Júnior's rating:
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - PlayStation 2
The ending is good, I'll admit. But the rest is SO bad!!
Paulo Júnior's rating:
Explains absolutely nothing.
Paulo Júnior's rating:
Mass Effect 2 - Xbox 360
So acclaimed because of story, but the story is very simple, unsurprising and bland. Acclaimed because of the choices, but it's impossible to pinpoint what leads to what.
What other people said made me hyped. I was underwhelmed after seeing. It looks a lot like an Overrated list, but it's not, it's just the ones that personally disappointed me. Of course, many of these I didn't see when they first came out, so that might explain in part my disappointment. If one sees many movies that used The Sixth Sense's twist before watching that movie itself, the impact will be lessened, for example.
