2014: Not another film diary
Actually yes, it is. This is my first attempt at listing, by the way. I'll try to make it look better!

I can't judge it as an adaptation but as a standalone movie it was satisfying enough. Some forced writing that I guess comes from the main source, but overall a very enjoyable adventure with classic vibes.

It starts kind of weak and misplaced, but once the action is set in the house it gets much better. Some little pacing issues manage to spoil an otherwise amazingly tense storyline that only gets better as it follows.

This Soviet animation is a fable on humanity. While story-wise it is, rather, stylistically simple, as a work of animation it is a fascinating display of styles and forms.

Given my lack of experience with the western genre and narrative, I didn't expect that much of this one. It turned to be an agile and compelling movie that takes advantage of a great lead acting by Gary Cooper.

Out of the Buรฑuel movies I've watched, this one is by far the one I enjoyed the least. I guess I am more into the more aggressive Buรฑuel of his Mexican period. This one is more irregular, and overall less able to impact me. The metaphor play is also unusually cheap and uninspired. Anyway there are still enough powerful images to make this one worth the watch.

Good intentions but a narrative mess. The main problem of this slice of life with fantasy elements is that the fantasy is too sporadic and rushed, and the slice of life lacks an overall emphasis and continuity. It works better in individual scenes than as a whole.

Before I comment on the movie, I think I should put it in context. This Spanish movie is part of an initiative among a group of filmmakers to make and release films and stream them for free (#littlesecretfilm). They have some specific rules on them, like the shooting time (less than 24 hours, uninterrupted) and the obligation to not follow a written script.
Manic Pixie Dream Girl is the only #littlesecretfilm movie I have watched; it is, as well, the one that has got more positive feedback, totally deserved in my opinion given its difficulties and achievements. The story is a narration through videoblogs about an Internet tragedy. A total amount of five characters (bloggers), all of them played by the same actress, interact through their videos. Aside from the whole editing process which makes it look quite unique, what stands out is the amazing performance by this actress through the different characters she represents, to the point that they become entirely and individually recognizable. The story ends up being surprisingly visceral and effective.
The moral may look a little too alarmist on the effects of Internet, but here is where the context comes to add a point of irony and self-awareness, making the movie look intentionally ambiguous.
