A good movie

Even though Michael Crichton was mostly known for his books, among other things he wrote the novels that inspired such movies like ‘Jurassic Park’ and he also created the massive TV show ‘ER’, he was also a movie director and, even though none of his movies made much an impact, some of them were still fairly interesting, especially this directing debut. Indeed, it is nowadays pretty much f... read more

The enduring appeal of Westworld can be summarized as thus: murderous cowboy robots. Does this ignore the other virtues that power Westworld? Yes, and I fully admit that it’s a bit of an opening joke to get things going.   Truth be told, Westworld endures because it’s fascinating, engaging, and well-acted. Westworld

“The enduring appeal of Westworld can be summarized as thus: murderous cowboy robots. Does this ignore the other virtues that power Westworld? Yes, and I fully admit that it’s a bit of an opening joke to get things going.   Truth be told, Westworld endures because it’s fascinating, engaging, and well-acted. There’s also a vague sense that the material has not entirely reached its maximum potential so its remodel into a hit television series is not surprising. Hell, even creator Michael Crichton took the basic premise, theme goes on the fritz with dangerous results, and reconstituted it into Jurassic Park.   Good ideas can become eternal well springs.   For those that don’t know, Delos is an attraction for the rich that allows them to indulge in their most depraved fantasies” read more

RS: 50 Best Sci-Fi Movies of the 1970s (51 movies items)

"In the future, rich tourists tired of traditional vacations can visit three adult theme parks in which lifelike robots cater to their every need. But after a series of malfunctions, the androids begin murdering their guests, leading to a final standoff involving Yul Brynner as a surly, trigger-happy gunslinger. Michael Crichton’s 1973 film foresaw the rise of computer viruses and was one of the first to utilize CGI technology that would become commonplace years later. While the graphics may lo"

" FilmStruck- 1hr. 28min. First Viewing Hampered a bit by the age in which it was made, not getting the benefits of technical advancements that the series would, Westworld is, nevertheless, a solid piece of sci-fi/horror, with strong direction that slowly, but surely, ratchets up tension to queasy highs. While only about a 90-minute film, Westworld is really two films; the theoretical future/speculative sci-fi first half, and the chase thriller second. Both have their pros, though it's hard to s"

"25th of August, DVD Boy, have we got a vacation for you Westworld on elokuva, josta moni tunnetumpi tieteisohjaaja James Cameronia myöten on ottanut runsaasti vaikutteita. Harmillisen huonosti vanhentunut pätkä, joka on b-elokuvamaisen kökkö ja helposti unohdettava. Michael Crichton ei ole ohjaajana yhtä merkittävä mitä kirjailijana ja sen näkee laahaavasta tahdista ja kankeasta henkilöohjauksesta. Juoni on pettämättömän yksinkertainen ja HBO:n reboot-sarjaa nähneenä voin sano"

Movies the giraffe watched in 2017: April (28 movies items)

"First viewing - April 15th This weekend there was nothing new out I wanted to see, but fortunately Row House was having Sci-fi week. The other options were District 9, Total Recall, and Starship Troopers, but since I'd seen all of them (Total Recall most recently) this was the sole priority. And I'm glad I showed up because it was really damn good. The effects have held up well over the years and the acting is solid all around. I've watched enough movies though that I knew where it was heading,"

The future kind of sucks. (367 movies items)

"Reason for the future sucking: A high-tech, highly realistic adult amusement park called Delos features androids that are almost indistinguishable from human beings. For $1,000 per day, guests may indulge in any fantasy, including killing or having sex with the androids. The androids, have "other ideas", however. Year it takes place: The near future."
