“Nunca he sido muy adepto al cine de Aronofsky, su obra en la pantalla se caracteriza por ser deprimente y a veces hasta tortuosa con sus personajes. Esto en principio hizo que me sintiese totalmente ajeno a su cine, pero con el tiempo creo que he sabido comprender su filosofía. Aronofsky es alguien que filma con el corazón historias que buscan abrazar al espectador y hacerlos entender de su fragilidad. Muchas veces sus películas no buscan trasmitir un mensaje en concreto sobre aprender, si no más bien de comprender el estado de uno y la naturaleza autodestructiva del ser humano. La obra de Aronofsky es sobre drogas, enfermedades, narcisismo y sobre todo la muerte, y en eso va residir su obra más ambiciosa: La fuente de la vida.
