What’s shocking here is that it took so long for Steven Spielberg to finally work for Disney. He the purveyor of the candy-coated family-friendly adventures filled to the brim with a sense of wonder and awe, often with a dash of darkness lurking underneath to keep the tension going. Is he the right choice for Roald Dahl’s topsy-turvy, macabre world of heavy word-play and twisted poetry? I’m ... read more

Back in 2015, Steven Spielberg came up with ‘Bridge of Spies’ but even though it was well received, I thought it was rather underwhelming. Only a year later,  he quickly came up with something new but even though Disney had a record-breaking year, they had a flew flops and this movie turned out to be one of them. Still, since it was the last movie directed by Steven Spielberg, I was quite eag... read more

Ten-year-old Sophie is in for the adventure of a lifetime when she meets the Big Friendly Giant. Naturally scared at first, the young girl soon realizes that the 24-foot behemoth is actually quite gentle and charming. As their friendship grows, Sophie’s presence attracts the unwanted attention of Bloodbottler, Fleshlumpeater and other giants. After traveling to London, Sophie and the BFG must convince Queen Victoria to help them get rid of all the bad giants once and for all.

Is he the right choice for Roald Dahl’s topsy-turvy, macabre world of heavy word-play and twisted poetry? I’m not entirely sure, but The BFG makes an unwieldy but compelling argument that he may be.   If there’s anything to knock The BFG for, and repeatedly, it’s the ungainly way the motion-capture work and the live-action material don’t completely vibe with each other. After a period of time of watching a human child clearly interacting with a largely artificial world, you wonder what would’ve” read more

Movies the giraffe watched in 2017: June (27 movies items)

"Re-watch - June 17th The kiddo wanted to watch this Friday night, but I shot down that idea since The BFG runs almost 2 hours. She therefore woke up Saturday asking to watch it, which I agreed to after we got our morning errands taken care of. As I'd suspected she really enjoyed the movie, and expressed surprise that it wasn't a true story. Unsure why she thought it was, maybe because it's live action & they go to see the Queen of England? Whatever the case, I think she was relieved to know the"

“This was another film I waited to watch with my wife. I generally enjoy Steven Spielberg movies and it's also Disney. This is the final writing credit for Melissa Mathison before she passed. She also worked on E.T. with Spielberg and has written Indian in the Cupboard and the Twilight Zone movie. This flopped in the box office even though it's a Spielberg movie which shocked me. It could be that the main cast isn't very well known to pull enough interest. So let's get to it. This wasn't a bad movie, but it's a bit of a let down. There are some really funny scenes and the tale itself was interesting enough. The acting was good as well. One problem I had with it though is it was hard to figure out what era it takes place in as it looked like several mashed into one. Another problem is that i” read more
