" Cast : Mark Rylance, Rebecca Hall, Bill Hader What was it about? A girl named Sophie encounters the Big Friendly Giant who, despite his intimidating appearance, turns out to be a kind-hearted soul who is considered an outcast by the other giants because, unlike them, he refuses to eat children. My two cents: Well, I didn’t care much about the damned thing, even less than ‘Bridge of Spies’. Basically, I thought it was in fact seriously boring. First of all, I have to admit it, I alway"

"SCREENING: Regular DATE: July 22nd CINEMA: Showcase Cinema de Lux LOCATION: Bluewater"
"The darker elements of book may have been toned down, and the film sometimes goes a bit too lowbrow, but what saves it is the charming script, excellent lead performances, and astonishingly impressive visual effects. 8.0/10"
"First viewing - July 5th Admittedly I have yet to read Dahl's novel, but as a long time fan of some other creations of his I had no hesitations in supporting this film. Plus, the trailers instilled a sense of wonder every time I caught one. Fortunately that sense of wonder popped up more times throughout the film than I'd expected, and Spielberg clearly has fun building the BFG's world. Overall the film is humorous & heartfelt & just what I wanted out of it. Evidently it didn't drum up much box"
"When: July 16th First-Time Viewing: Yes. How: In theaters. What'd I Think?: Sometimes lowbrow, but charming, delightful film by Spielberg. My Rating: 8/10 Other Notes: NA."
"The BFG is a fantasy movie directed by the great Steven Spielberg based on the Roald Dahl's book with the same name. The movie tells the story of a young girl living in an orphanage, who, during one night, sees a giant and gets taken by him to Giant Country. Mark Rylance performs the so-called giant via motion-capture, bringing much heart and depth to the role. The young actress playing Sophie, the girl who gets taken by the giant, Ruby Barnhill, is wonderful in her role and shows lot of promise"
"Kids will no doubt be delighted by the stunning visuals but unfortunately for me this film had nothing else to offer. Nothing of interest really happened and when the third act rolls around it goes from boring to boring along with being absurd. Mark Rylance does fantastic work in motion capture I must say, its just too bad it wasn't in a film that I'd ever want to see again."
"Tomatometer Guess: 56%. Steven Spielberg directs this adaptation of the popular Road Dahl book. Actual Score: 73%. It's unlikely that The BFG will go down as one of Steven Spielberg's best efforts, but nevertheless, it's a heartfelt adventure with fantastic special effects, impressive acting (both from Mark Rylance as BFG and the actress who plays Sophia), and a great score by John Williams. Though the film is not without its flaws (The pacing in the third act is sluggish and its brand of humo"
