Of course, I had already seen this movie but since it was a while back, I thought I should give it another try. In fact, it was my wife who actually introduced it to me when we first met. Indeed, it was one of her favorite movies, one of those that she saw so many times as a child, and she was (rightfully) shocked that I never saw the damned thing in my life. Well, even though it was indeed a dece... read more

Tony is an uneducated Brooklyn teenager. The highlight of his week is going to the local disco, where he is the king of the dancefloor. Tony meets Stephanie at the disco and they agree to dance together in a competition. Stephanie resists Tony's attempts to romance her, as she aspires to greater things; she is moving across the river to Manhattan. Gradually, Tony also becomes disillusioned with the life he is leading and he and Stephanie decide to help one another to start afresh.

1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die (1970's) (158 movies items)

" Notes: Well, even though it was indeed a decent watch, to be honest, I didn't really connect with this movie, I'm afraid. Basically, the oddest thing about this movie is how it keeps switching between the rather cheesy dance scenes (which were pretty cool, I have to admit it, at least, if you like this kind of dance) and some realistic dark moments which were more compelling to watch, at least, for me. It seems that the makers were not able to make up their minds between something rat"

" Connie: So, are you as good in bed as you are on that dance floor? Tony: You know, Connie, if you're as good in bed as you are on the dance floor, then you're one lousy fuck. Connie: Then how come they always send me flowers the next morning? Tony: I dunno. Maybe they thought you was dead. "
