Moonstruck

I know what you’re thinking: Cher is an Academy Award winner…for acting. On paper, yes, it does sound fairly odd. After all, Cher is mostly known as a camp-driven diva that embraces her inner drag queen and crafts pop music that only she could make work. Nothing about that screams Serious Actress. But that’s the thing about Cher. Just when you think that you’ve got her figured out, she pul... read more

I already saw this movie but since it was a while back and since it has a decent reputation, I thought I might as well check it out again. Indeed, some people really enjoyed this movie, even the late Roger Ebert really loved it for example but, personally, I failed to see what was so amazing about it. Well, after rewatching the damned thing, I have to admit that it was more enjoyable this time aro... read more

(OK) Soft nice ethnic 'costumbrism' with passion and anti passion. Cher is stunning as Cage in one of his best (then his filomography becomes lousy). Gardenia is excellent

No sooner does Italian-American widow Loretta (Cher) accept a marriage proposal from her doltish boyfriend, Johnny (Danny Aiello), than she finds herself falling for his younger brother, Ronny (Nicolas Cage). She tries to resist, but Ronny lost his hand in an accident he blames on his brother, and has no scruples about aggressively pursuing her while Johnny is out of the country. As Loretta falls deeper in love, she comes to learn that she's not the only one in her family with a secret romance.

"FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★½ NOTES: There might have been some slight fading but the print looks impressive. The scene in which Ronny persuades Loretta to give him another chance has taken a few seconds of significant damage, though. DATE: March 13th 2024 CINEMA: The Prince Charles Cinema LOCATION: West End"

"'Snap out of it!'Cher's character issues this plea following two hard slaps across the face of Nicolas Cage's character in 1987's "Moonstruck" after he confesses to being in love with her. You might hear this exclamation—hopefully without the violence—from anyone who needs the person they're engaging with to come to their senses."

Movies the giraffe watched in 2020: March (29 movies items)

"Re-watch - March 15th I have vague memories of watching most if not all of Moonstruck with my parents back in the late '80s, so I'm trusting that this was my second viewing. Parts of it were familiar, but others had been long forgotten which has me uncertain whether I saw all of it back then. I wound up enjoying it, however, and it's just the kind of positive film I need right now. It's nothing great, but the cast does a wonderful job (even Nicolas Cage) and the story is never dull. I'm glad I "
