" First Viewing Viewing Date: June 5th Via: Netflix Plot: In Pittsburgh, accomplished pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu uncovers the truth about brain damage in football players who suffer repeated concussions in the course of normal play. Rating: 7.8/10 Why Did I Watch It? I noticed this was about to leave Netflix, and it looked solid enough to check out while I have the chance."
“I wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie but since I have a weak spot for Will Smith, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, to be honest, even though it turned out to be a decent watch, I can't say I was really blown away by the damned thing. Basically, the main problem with this movie is that the makers tried to convince the viewers that it was dealing with a major discovery but, seriously, you don't need to be a fancy brain surgeon to come to the conclusion that (American) football is a violent and dangerous sport and that many of its players will end up, during or after their career, with some major brain damage. The other supposedly big revelation was that the NFL had been denying these scientific facts for many years or even decades was not surprising at all either.” read more
" DVD- 2hrs. 3min. First Viewing When it sticks to the facts and away from the less-than-stellarly written story, Concussion flourishes. Unfortunately, it often feels as though the film is really pulling it's punches, and never goes as hard as it can. What could've been a searing look at concussion problems plaguing the NFL, and the league's lies to cover it up, is rendered as more of an inspirational story about a good person trying to stand up to a big corporation. It works well in spots, often"
"Great performance from Will Smith. Award worthy. Also very current film to see about the dangers of football."
" 7.3/10 Big Willy coming at us with a Nigerian accent and makes us really not care for the NFL and proves sports and dreams are really run by big money and big business."
"Will Smith as Dr. Bennet Omalu (a Nigerian-American physician, forensic pathologist, and neuropathologist who was the first to discover and publish findings of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) in American football players while working at the Allegheny County Coroner's Office in Pittsburgh. He later became the chief medical examiner for San Joaquin County, California, and is a professor at the University of California,Davis, Department of Medical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine) "
