" Director: Roger Donaldson His 7th movie My 10th movie watched from the director Cocktails and Dreams... this movie is so lame and cheesy and chauvinistic... and so incredibly 80s. That last part might be the only thing entertaining about it. Sure Elisabeth Shue is likable, as always, and the bar tricks are fun, but those are still actually a minor part of the movie. “Brian Flannigan (Tom Cruise) is a highly successful bartender who wants to establish his own business with the help of his mentor Doug (Bryan Brown) and the Coughlin Laws. During which, Brian forms a relationship with a beautiful diner waitress Jordan (Elizabeth Shue), the daughter of a rich family in Park Avenue. The first third of Cocktail, where Brian and Doug team together to run the business, was the best part. "First viewing - Sept. 28th I thought I'd take one last opportunity for the year of checking out a Tom Cruise movie I hadn't seen, and, well let's just say I'm glad I didn't watch this one earlier in my run as it may have derailed my efforts. It's really dated and while there's enough going on that it kept my attention it's all ultimately forgettable. Amusing at times, but I could've gone on ignoring it. "
