“To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick and, in fact, the main reason why I checked it out was because Javier Bardem was involved (he was apparently voicing one of the robots). Well, at least, it turned out to be more ambitious than all these underwhelming B action flicks that Antonio Banderas has been making lately. Indeed, the robots were not bad and I was rather amazed to find out that they were all some animatronic creations which was pretty cool. The mood in general was also not bad either, even if it is quite amazing that, after 40 years, they are still copying ‘Blade Runner’. I love so much this movie though, I guess it might explain why I waste so much of my time with such rather weak shameless copies. Still , they didn’t do anything really origina” read more
" This wasn't an especially fascinating or fresh idea for a movie. It's a story we know all the beats to by now. But it looked very lovely. Beautifully filmed, and a great melancholy atmosphere. I thought I'd be bored with it, and truly I did not care very much what most of the characters had to say, especially the big bad corporate goons. But it held my interest to see these great clunky robots maneuvering painfully slow and wobbly through the whole thing, with no CGI until the very end. It was "
" I wanted so much to like this. Banderas in an A.I. film? Yes, please! It was a bit long and quite sad, though. I'm not about that life. I'd say, don't waste your time on it and check out Ex-Machina or re-watch Blade Runner. You'll be more satisfied in the end."
"First viewing – Nov. 16th Beyond the events that caused this dystopian future, there’s not much original about this movie but it compensates for that fact by being consistently entertaining and investing in its main character so that we care about him. I also dug some of the visuals plus the fact that the robots were made via practical effects instead of being entirely CGI. For a lower budget sci-fi film it was definitely worth watching once. Currently streaming on Netflix"
