"Took me years to get around to watching this. By now it is pretty dated. Watched it to see Pacino and Oliver Stone's direction. A pretty solid film with a classic Pacino speech."

"Oliver Stonen maksimaalinen, hyperaktiivinen, kaiketi postmoderni tyyli sopii hienosti eeppisiin elokuviin, joissa hahmotellaan jonkin amerikkalaisen ilmiön kokonaiskuvaa, tai ehkä oikeammin kokonaisvaikutelmaa. Sitten kun Stone laittaa tyylillisiä taipumuksiaan vakan alle ja yrittää kertoa juoni- ja henkilövetoisempaa tai vaihtoehtoisesti poliittisesti julistavaa elokuvaa, tulos on yleensä epärealistisen tuntuinen ja ponneton (Platoon, W, jne). "Watched: February 20, 2020. Director: Oliver Stone Starring: Al Pacino as Tony D'Amato Cameron Diaz as Chrstina Pagniacci Dennis Quaid as Jack Rooney Jamie Foxx as Willie Beamen Very entertaining film! Al Pacino is great as Tony D'Amato, coach of the Miami Sharks in the film. Jamie Foxx also shines as rookie Will Beamen, who unexpectedly becomes a star Quarterback. If you love sports, especially football, you'll most likely enjoy this film! My rating: 7/10"

Basically, it was one of those many ambitious projects directed by Oliver Stone which didn't end up doing very well critically and/or commercially. Well, even if it was maybe nothing really groundbreaking, I thought it was actually pretty good. Of course, since I'm European, I have a totally different perspective on (American) football and there is a fair chance that someone more familiar with this sport wouldn’t like this movie at all. Anyway, I thought the whole thing was fairly entertaining and, at least, you can’t deny the fact that there was an impressive cast involved (Al Pacino, Cameron Diaz, Dennis Quaid, James Woods, Jamie Foxx, LL Cool J, Matthew Modine, Lauren Holly, Aaron E” read more
