Review of Antz

For the first 10 minutes, Antz made me smile, sometimes laugh, and for the most part, was quite enjoyable. My doubts towards the usually mediocre Dreamworks had faded; but only for a little bit. The quality dropped just a wee bit after the first 10 minutes, but I was still enjoying myself. The film holds up for another 20 minutes, and then it's rarely amusing again.

I already saw this movie but since it was a while back and since I had it on DVD, I thought I might as well check it out again. In fact, I saw the damned thing in the movie theater when it was released and, back then, it was a big event. Indeed, it was DreamWorks first CGI animated feature so the expectations were pretty high. Eventually, it didn't get much love but I always had a weak spot for th... read more

Loosely based on the novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, the setting for the story is an ant colony in Central Park in New York City, under the chronological timespan of 4 days. The protagonist (Woody Allen) is Z-4195, or "Z" for short, a neurotic and individualistic worker ant living in a wholly conformist society who longs for the opportunity to truly express himself. His friends include fel... read more

Z is just a worker ant - one in a billion and his odds of landing the beautiful Princess Bala are about the same. When a remarkable twist of fate turns Z from a common drone into an unlikely hero, he soon finds himself leading a revolution that becomes a celebration of individuality.

A good movie

“I already saw this movie but since it was a while back and since I had it on DVD, I thought I might as well check it out again. In fact, I saw the damned thing in the movie theater when it was released and, back then, it was a big event. Indeed, it was DreamWorks first CGI animated feature so the expectations were pretty high. Eventually, it didn't get much love but I always had a weak spot for this flick. For some reasons, 'A Bug's Life' which was released during the same period of time turned out to be  more popular but it is in my opinion one of Pixar's weakest movies and, in my opinion, this movie was slightly better. Of course, 20 years later, the animation feels rather outdated but it still looks pretty good. Above all, it was a masterstroke to have a neurotic ant voiced by Woody Al” read more

"Cliche, Boring and Unfunny, Antz is just a rip-off of Pixar's A Bugs Life with Lame Characters and Uninterested Story. Award: Most Decent Woody Allen Performance (Even if he hated doing the film) and Worst Animation of 1998"

30 From 98: My Favorite Films From 1998 (30 movies items)

"With the release of Antz and A Bug's Life, 1998 was the year of the computer generated insect genre. And the subject of lil' multi-limbed critters isn't the only thing the two movies shared. Both releases have been critically rated pretty much the same by both film critics and audiences alike (although, A Bug's Life did take in more in terms of the box offiice, but not so much that it would've considered a total squash). And just like Bug's, Antz takes the idea of the macrocosm of the insect un"
