In the alternate reality in 2010 The Soviet Union still exists and a joint USA-Soviet expedition is sent to Jupiter to discover what exactly happened in the story after Kubrick's film. "2010: The Year We Make Contact" is absolutely nothing like "2001: A Space Odyssey" and the attempt to refine the story seems highly unnecessary."
