She said: "I was always the girl who would turn up to fashion shows in trainers, flares, a shearling jacket and braids in my hair. I look back and I was really cute, but all the other girls were slick, groomed and elegant, while I’d be backstage drinking a can of beer. It’s a great British thing, but that kind of thing doesn’t go down well [in America]."
She said: "I have eclectic tastes, and I love changing tone and feeling. That’s always been intentional. I enjoy roving, shifting, rifling through to the next thing and doing something that feels new. I love the feeling of learning something new, always being off-guard and surprised."
We said: "Even when sprawled insouciantly – like a born-again Barbarella – across a granite slab on the shores of Biscayne Bay, Miami, Georgia May Jagger exudes British cool. It’s inescapable; in the ether that surrounds her – in her genes. Her lazy emerald gaze, the candy-floss curls, the very contours of her parted pout – which echo John Pasche’s infamous logo – simultaneously recall her rock ’n’ roll heritage and her status as one of Fashion’s golden girls today."
She said: "There is a film I’d love to direct, but I just don’t know if I’ve got the patience. In theatre, you can have an idea and get on with it. In film, you hear of people sitting on an idea for eight years, by which time the idea has changed and evolved and become something else."
She said: "People aren’t going to be turning round saying, “Oh, the ex-Spice girl, we’re surprised we like it.” I will be judged differently, and I’m realistic about that. I’m my own worst enemy, constantly wanting to better myself. I’m very ambitious and a perfectionist, and we’re a small team trying to do a lot."
She said: "We’ve come a long way, but women still get told what our lives are supposed to look like. People are still obsessed getting married and the picture-perfect Hollywood ending. But I can only live for me, I can’t do it for anyone else. People want to put you inside a box because it makes them feel comfortable. When someone lives outside of the box, it makes others uncomfortable about their own decisions. There have been women like myself throughout history, and they have always made people feel threatened."
She said: "I was so tired from the all the touring, I had to go to bed. I left the stage, put my slippers on and ran through the carpark in my catsuit with my cape flying behind me, screaming, 'Go-ooooooooooo.'"
She said: "One of my first shoots for Victoria’s Secret was a swimwear campaign, maybe seven years ago. They believed in me from the beginning, and if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. They booked me after seeing a picture of me in Australian underwear. I ended up in Venezuela working with Adriana Lima and Karolina Kurkova, thinking, 'What am I doing here?'"
We said: "When I meet Keira Knightley on the rooftop of Shoreditch House on a rare warm afternoon, I commit a cardinal sin of journalism: I allow myself to be completely distracted from the job at hand. My carefully crafted interview questions lie mutely redundant in my notebook as the minutes tick by unchecked and the conversation turns to the happy subject of weddings."
She said: "When I do a photoshoot, I want to express something about life. It’s not just about looking pretty. ABSOLUTELY NOT! I watch films to inspire me. I make a moodboard. I get excited."
We said: "Indeed Salma Hayek is a bombshell in a shot glass, a café cortado of a woman: packed with intelligence, passion, directness, sharp wit and sexual power in their most concentrated and potent forms."
She said: "I think of England as music with fashion. You mix rock ’n’ roll with everything, from royalty to punk to the bourgeoisie. Music-wise, you’re the best. David Bowie, the Rolling Stones, Radiohead, the Beatles…"
