The original "Red Dawn" with Patrick Swayze made a respectable $38 million when it was released back in 1984. Adjusted for 2012 dollars, that works out to be just over $90 million. Of course, the movie about a team of high schoolers fighting back a Russian invasion went on to become a beloved cult classic, and naturally, it has spawned a modern-day remake. Will the new "Red Dawn" which stars Chris Hemsworth be able to match the success of the original?

(Original: 1981/ Remake: 2010) The original "Clash of the Titans" was for a while there the gold standard of sword and sandal fantasy flicks. It featured the creme de la creme of the British acting world like Laurence Olivier and Maggie Smith playing Greek gods in a Mount Olympus that looked vaguely like a discotheque. It featured future "LA Law" star Harry Hamlin as Perseus in a mop top. (Random trivia: Hamlin's then-girlfriend Ursula Andress played Aphrodite.) And it featured some endearingly cheesy stop-motion animation by Ray Harryhausen. The remake, is all the way around a leaner and meaner affair. Sam Worthington from "Avatar" plays a Perseus shorn of his luscious locks. Mount Olympus looks more like something out of "300" than Studio 54. And while this new flick keeps many of the creatures from the original -- Medusa, the Kraken, even Athena's robotic owl -- they've been digitally updated in a way that won't make you giggle.

Evil Dead (2013)
Bonus 80's Split Screen

Original: 1981/Remake: 2013

The Remake which is set to release April 5, 2013 has the same release date month as the original with the original having been released a few weeks later on the 24th of April in 1981. Will this remake be better than the original, or will this remake prove that once again that the originals are still always the better ones?

There's been a wave of remakes of movies from the 1980s, but only a select few have been more successful at the box office than the originals.

While we've seen a flood of remakes in the last few years, most of them haven't lived up to the success of the first film. In fact, if you compare the remake's gross with the adjusted gross, nearly every one has come up short.
