It (2017)
Tomatometer Guess: 81%. This looks more faithful to the tone of the Stephen King novel rather than the 1990 Miniseries.
Actual Score: 90%. Not only is IT *legitimately* frightening, full of atmosphere, and scary, it's also well acted, has a lot of heart, and does a terrific job of making you care for the kids in the Losers Club.
The movie also thankfully leaves out some of the more...controversial scenes from the novel and is all the better for it.

Mother! (2017)
Tomatometer Guess: 75%. Daron Aronofsky's latest film starring Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem is sure to be another provocative and controversial hit for the director.
Actual Score: 67%. Not for everyone, but definitely an unforgettable flick.

American Assassin (2017)
Tomatometer Guess: 62%.
Actual Score: 44%. Not bad, just not very good or remarkable.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)
Tomatometer Guess: 78%. Our favorite group of well-dressed secret agents (No offense, James Bond) is back to save the world yet again. Only this time, they're joining forces with their American counterparts, The Statesman.
Will Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman be able to recapture the magic of the original, or will this not be "that kind of movie?"
Actual Score: 50%. Though very entertaining and fun to watch, Kingsman: The Golden Circle suffers from the lost novelty of the original and is a bit too much of a rehash to match the first.

JWR's rating:

The Lego Ninjago Movie (2017)
Tomatometer Guess: 73%: Based on the popular LEGO toy line and TV series, LEGO Ninjago is the third installment of the LEGO movie franchise. Will it be another solid time at the movies or will it fall apart?
Actual Score: 49%. Despite being the weakest of the LEGO movies, The LEGO Ninjago Movie is still enjoyably silly and well-written enough to be watchable, if ultimately forgettable.

Tomatometer Guess: 92%.
Actual Score: 88%. Funny, witty, well-acted, and surprisingly relevant in today's current culture, Battle of the Sexes is easily one of my favorites of the year and features career-highlight work from Emma Stone and Steve Carell.

JWR's rating:

Flatliners (2017)
Tomatometer Guess: 53%. This remake of the 1990 cult classic original could be good in its own right, but it could also easily be dead on arrival.
Actual Score: 0%. Flatliners has a great concept but is horribly executed. There are too many plot and logic flaws, the dialogue is clunky, the jump scares aren't scary, and it's boring.
This remake is Dead On Arrival.

American Made (2017)
Tomatometer Guess: 86%. Doug Liman and Tom Cruise return in this biopic about Barry Seal, the pilot who gained infamy for smuggling drugs & guns and money laundering.
Actual Score: 87%. With great acting, meticulous editing, smooth pacing, and a darkly comical tone, American Made is an entertaining and unique take on drug trafficking in the 80s.

Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
Tomatometer Guess: 80%. Denis Villeneuve takes over for Ridley Scott to direct the follow-up to the 1982 cult classic.
Actual Score: 89%. Blade Runner 2049 is a visually stunning, well-acted, and thought-provoking follow-up to the original. I'd highly recommend it.

Tomatometer Guess: 81%. Michael Fasbender and Rebeca Ferguson star in this gritty murder mystery based on the novel of the same name and directed by Tomas Alfredson.
Actual Score: 9%. Wow, what a disappointment. Despite some good acting and decent cinematography, The Snowman is, unfortunately, a mess.
The story makes little to no sense, the killer's motivation is nonsensical.
The filming schedule was so tight, that 10-15% of the script wasn't able to be filmed, and it shows. The editing is beyond sloppy, the pacing is dreadful, and there are moments in the trailer (some of which are crucial to the plot) that are missing.
The characters are underdeveloped and unlikeable, some of them are in roles that might seem important later on, but due to the script not being finished, they disappear altogether later on.
All of these elements together make The Snowman one of the worst and most unintentionally hilarious movies of 2017.

Geostorm (2017)
Tomatometer Guess: 17%. Frequent Roland Emmerich collaborator Dean Devlin makes his directorial debut with this disaster film that looks like it came at least 20 Years too late.
Actual Score: 13%. Geostorm is a predictably cheesy and melodramatic disaster movie that gives you less of what you came to see and more melodrama.

JWR's rating:

Jigsaw (2017)
Tomatometer Guess: 68%. Normally, I'd scoff and roll my eyes at the idea of making yet another Saw movie. However, in the hands of Michael and Peter Spierig (of Daybreakers and Predestination fame), I'm a lot more intrigued.
Actual Score: 44%. Jigsaw is a return-to-form (of sorts) for the Saw franchise that has features more of what you've come to expect from this series.
If you're a fan, you'll dig this, if not, this won't change your mind.

Dear viewers, I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that Summer is over and School is back in session. The good news, however, is that there's still plenty of great high-profile movies coming out in the Fall to help cure your Post-Summertime Blues.
You know the drill by now, I'll be predicting the critical responses for upcoming movies, compare them to the actual scores, and briefly give you my own thoughts on them.
