"Every night and every morn, some to misery are born. Every morn and every night, some are born to sweet delight. Some are born to sweet delight; some are born to endless night."

This was a really weird and surreal western that was one that caught my interest right from the start. Johnny Depp delivers what is quite possibly one of his best performances, the story was amazing, the cinematography was excellent and the surreal elements of this movie made it feel like a spiritual journey. It's a fantastic movie and it's the best movie I've seen from Jim Jarmusch so far.

"Hello. My name is Mr. R.L. Stine. Every story ever told can be broken down into three parts. The beginning. The middle. And the twist."

Even though this movie ended up getting good reviews, I was still surprised by how good it was. This movie really is a breath of air in this day and age because most family movies that are live-action nowadays don't have much effort put into them and just pander to kids and we don't get many movies like The Goonies, E.T. or Labyrinth these days where they actually challenge kids to think and the most effort put into kids movies are animated and once in a blue moon we'll get something like Where the Wild Things are or Hugo. This movie however is one of those rare live-action movies today that actually takes it's target audience seriously while also being very fun at the same time. I've read some of the Goosebumps books as a kid and watched a few episodes of the TV show, but I wasn't overly-familiar with the franchise. Still you don't have to be familiar with the series to enjoy this movie as it plays of the nostalgia of the books and the TV show very well while also managing to be it's own thing. The acting is decent for this kind of movie and the child actors do a good job, but Jack Black really stole the show with his performance as R.L Stine. He was the perfect guy to play that role and he delivered some of the funniest moments that this movie had to offer like him getting mad whenever he's compared to Stephen King. I also liked this movie's sense of humor as it's able to appeal to kids while also sneaking in a few jokes and references that only adults will get.

Like I said this movie plays off the nostalgia of the books very well while also luring in a new generation of fans and it captures the spirit of the books very well since the books were mostly recycled horror elements from movies or TV shows like The Twilight Zone and the premise for this movie also makes it work as it wouldn't have been as interesting if it was just a feature-length adaptation of one of the books. While I wouldn't go as far to call this movie great, it's still a very good movie and it's probably the best thing to come out this franchise.

"You know, I also have killed a lion."
"How many shots did you need?"
"I used my hands."

This was a very entertaining movie. While it does start off slow, it does get a lot more interesting as it goes on. Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas both play interesting characters and the action scenes with the lions were very entertaining. Not much to say other than it being a fun movie that delivers what it promises.

"There are no innocent people in this world Sever, you know that. Only killers and victims."

I had this movie on DVD for a long time and I decided to watch it just to see how bad it really is. Now you're probably wondering how I have this on DVD in the first place, well I'll tell you. An interesting fact about this movie is my dad actually worked on the catering for this movie along with several other movies like Night at the Museum 2, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil to name a few. He also has an interest in owning every movie that he has had a part in, so he got a copy of this movie forgetting that he already owned one, so I ended up getting stuck with the duplicate.

Now that I've seen it I can say with confidence that this is the worst action movie I have ever seen. I have seen some bad action movies before, but this one takes the cake. I'm going to start by talking about the action in this movie. It has some of the most boring action scenes I have ever seen in a movie and this movie lacks any style or substance to make this movie interesting. Also this movie has an R rating and it's probably one of the most undeserving movies to have that rating. It's rated R for STRONG violence and after watching that I find it hard to believe. The violence in this movie is PG-13 level at best, but it could even pass for a PG rating if this movie came out in the 1970's or the early 80's. That's how safe this movie plays it and the fact that the MPAA thought this movie had strong violence is laughable. There are a ton of PG-13 movies that are more violent than this piece of shit and even something like Guardians of the Galaxy is more violent than this. OK, I'm done complaining about what this movie is rated, but it just had to be mentioned.

The writing in this movie is terrible and it's so messy and confusing that it's hard to understand what's going on, the acting is lifeless, the choreography for the fight scenes are lame, the soundtrack is so generic and bland and I've heard more complexity from a Casio preset tune and the directing is wooden and lifeless. The only positive I had is that the explosions in this movie looked decent, but there's just too many of them and they focus more on them then actually telling a story.

Since my dad worked on this movie he met the cast and crew of this movie and he also told me about a behind-the-scenes story about what happened during the making of the movie that's much more interesting than the movie itself and I thought I'd share it with you guys. So Wych Kaosayananda was a newcomer when this film was made and he did a small action film in Thailand and after one movie Hollywood had enough faith in him to make a big budget movie and they thought he was going to be the next John Woo. I know, crazy right? So my dad said that he was a nice guy and he also took his crew to a showing of Black Hawk Down. Now from what I remember he said that Wych's original vision was completely different from what the final product was as it turns out it was butchered during the editing process and completely went against his artistic vision. After that he decided to quit from this movie and from Hollywood in general. So it's possible that this movie could've been better than it is if they sticked to his original vision, but at the same time I'm not entirely sure.

This is an abysmal movie that deserves it's negative reputation as one of the worst movies ever made and it's 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Also my younger brother walked in during the middle of the movie who's 6 years old and he watched about a quarter of it and even he didn't like it and said it was the worst movie ever which just shows how bad this movie truly is.

Re-watch

"I'm too old for this shit!"

I had to watch a good action movie to wash that bad taste that Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever left me with, so I looked through my DVD/Blu-ray collection for a good 5 seconds until I saw this one which I decided to watch. It's just as great of a movie on the second watch as Mel Gibson and Danny Glover are still great as the leading roles and it's even more funny than I remembered. While the whole buddy cop started with Eddie Murphy's movies, I think this is the movie that made it what it is today. Also the action scene at the end is just as great the second time around and this movie had everything it needed to be a classic of the genre. It's a great movie that managed to become a decent franchise overall.

"That's just great! We just waltz into the hospital and say, "We're sorry, we made a mistake." Well, maybe they'll give us Hart's body in exchange!"
"There is no need to get sarcastic!"

This was a funny movie. While this came out way before Horrible Bosses did, I do think the latter is better than this one, but this one still has it's funny moments like when all three of the leading girls fantasize about killing their boss in over the top ways. It's a decent comedy that I'm glad I watched once.

"I'm gonna be the only major thing that has happened to you in your life, and you're gonna be jerking off to my memory on your goddamned death bed!"

This was another movie I found for a very cheap price on Blu-ray and I mostly got it out of curiosity even though I had a feeling it was going to be bad. While this movie was really stupid, I actually got some laughs out of it at albeit most of them were unintentional. This is a movie about karaoke and I generally can't stand it and usually karaoke scenes in movies tend to bore me. I thought the movie was going to suck because of that, but despite the karaoke plot this movie focuses on more than karaoke and the whole movie manages to become far-fetched because of the crap this movie adds in.

The acting is average although the actors do their best with the material they are given, the story is confused in what it wants to be and this movie tries so hard to be emotional and funny, but fails miserably at both of these things. The drama in this movie made me laugh more than anything because of how this movie demands to be taken seriously and most of the time it feels like this movie isn't even trying to be funny, but when it does I only laughed at the jokes because of how stupid they were like Huey Lewis not knowing what karaoke is and calls it "Karate-oke". I even questioned if this movie was supposed to be funny until I looked on IMDB and the back of the Blu-ray cover and it turns out that it is a comedy. Speaking of the back cover I'm going to show you exactly what it says as it's pretty funny stuff.

Academy Award winner Gwyneth Palyrow (Best Actress, Shakespeare in Love, 1998; Iron Man 2) and Scott Speedman (The Vow) are part of the stellar ensemble cast in this hilariously off-beat comedy! The lives of six strangers become outrageously intertwined when a riotous road trip culminates at the site of the national Karaoke championships! As they compete for the $5,000 grand prize, this unlikely group will eventually learn all about each other... while discovering questions about themselves! Also featuring great performances from Maria Bello (The Cooler) Andre Braugher (Salt) Paul Giamatti and Huey Lewis (Shadow of Doubt) - you'll agree with audiences everywhere who fell in love with this uncommonly entertaining comedy!

I'm willing to bet that the person who wrote that description was someone that worked on the movie as it is filled with bullshit. It's not hilarious nor is it off-beat, the performances in this movie are not great and audiences everywhere did not fall in love with this movie. Critics panned it, the general public didn't like it that much and it currently has a 6.0 on IMDB. While there are a few people that liked this movie, that doesn't really matter because even the worst movies will have at least one person that liked it. They are right about these guys being an unlikely group, so I'll give credit there.

Still despite all I've said about this movie, I did get some enjoyment out of it and it was never painful to watch. I'd even consider this movie to be so bad that it's good to a certain degree. It's nowhere near as hilariously bad as something like Howard the Duck, The Room or Plan 9 From Outer Space, but it still has it's unintentionally funny moments and I think it qualifies as such since it seems like the people behind this really thought they were making a good movie.

"There are only two things more beautiful than a good gun: a Swiss watch or a woman from anywhere. Ever had a good... Swiss watch?"

So almost a year ago I watched The Searchers which was my introduction to John Wayne and I was really underwhelmed by it. When I watched The Shootist though I actually had more of an interest to watch more of his movies which was something The Searchers failed to do and I consider the former to be my real introduction to John Wayne. With that said this is the best John Wayne movie I've seen so far. It told a great story that is just as interesting as it was back then, the characters were great and had quite a bit of depth to them, the writing was very good and the runtime of this movie was perfect as it never felt too long or too short. It falls short on being a masterpiece in my book, but it's still a movie that is definitely worth checking out and I'd even recommend this along with The Shootist for someone that's just getting into John Wayne's movies.

"I was always telling your pop he should sell this crap and make some money, but he can never throw anything away."
"Yeah, except his family."

I've said before that Adam Sandler is really good with serious roles which his talent is shown in movies like Punch Drunk Love and Reign on Me and around the time I saw those movies I thought he'd never get a serious role or even a role in an R-rated movie again, but then this and Women, Men and Children came out and when I heard about those movies I was happy to hear the good news. The bad news about this movie though is that it isn't very good. While it is a step up compared to all the other bad movies he's done like Grown Ups 2, You Don't Mess With the Zohan and Eight Crazy Nights, it really isn't that much of a compliment as it is not very interesting. Even the premise of this movie didn't sound that interesting, but it could've made for a good movie if there was some effort put into it, but the writing and the way they execute it is very flimsy and this movie just lacks it's own identity. It doesn't really work as a comedy or a drama either. While there are a few jokes in this movie that are a little bit amusing, most of the jokes feel awkward and the emotion felt forced. It wasn't overly-sentimental or anything, it just felt more weird than it was touching. Also this movie does have some unfortunate racial overtones and while I don't think it was intentional or at least hope it wasn't, the fact that most of the shoes he steps in belongs to colored people and most of the people he turns into are portrayed as criminals just rubbed me the wrong way. It's like Adam Sandler wanted to wear blackface for shock value, but didn't want to suffer the consequences for it. This movie also felt very similar to Zelig except with Adam Sandler transforming into a different person by wearing their shoes instead of just magically transforming into them, so maybe this movie was doomed from the start at least for me since I didn't find the concept funny in Zelig and I didn't find it funny here either. Now this isn't a bad movie as it did have a few interesting ideas and it was really more awkward than it was frustrating to watch. Still it's a poorly-executed idea that doesn't know what it wants to be and even though I didn't care for Zelig, I do think that movie did that whole concept better than this movie did.

"Why don't you take your potty mouth, go locate your pre-teen cock-sucking son and stuff him back up that old blown-out sweat sock of a vagina and scoot off back to whatever shit-kicking town you came from!"

This movie started off funny, but it just kept on getting more and more funny as it went on. This is the kind of comedy film that we don't get very often these days since most of them seem to play it safe and are concerned about offending people and once in a while we will get a movie like this that laughs in the face of political correctness and doesn't care who it offends and because of that this movie is fucking hilarious. Jason Bateman's character was great and most of his lines of dialogue were hysterical and the kid who tags along with him is also very funny and he made for a great sidekick. The plot is probably the weakest point of the movie, but plot doesn't really matter when the movie is this funny and the whole spelling bee aspect is executed well enough. It's a shame that this movie didn't perform as well as it should have since it is a breath of fresh air from the typical comedy movies we've been getting today, but hopefully it will at least gain a cult status because it is one of the funniest movies I've seen in quite a while.

"To quote Cicero: rashness is the characteristic of youth, prudence that of mellowed age, and discretion the better part of valor."

This is one of Disney's more underrated efforts in general and I don't get some of the negative reviews it gets. Even though it was Disney's attempt to cash in on the popularity of Star Wars decades before they bought the rights to the franchise, it's still a very solid sci-fi film and it was even groundbreaking for it's time. The effects were amazing at the time this movie was made and they still look good to this day and I liked the overall dark story it had to tell. It's an underrated movie that is better than it's credited for.

"On Earth, everywhere you go, the temperature is 75 degrees. Everything is the same; all the people are exactly the same. Now what kind of life is that?"

This is a decent, but also standard 70's sci-fi film. Bruce Dern is good as the main character, the premise was handled well, the dialogue is decent and it does have a good environmental message, but in the end it isn't really much different from all the other sci-fi movies from the 70's. It's worth watching once especially if you're a fan of the genre, but don't expect too much from it.

"Yes, I do."
"Well, you're gonna meet him."

Surprisingly not as bad as it's reputation would suggest and I actually think this is on the same level as the first movie. I mean for starters this movie has probably one of the most graphic rape scenes I have ever seen in a movie and it's even more disturbing than the one in the first movie. Just like the first one it does a good job of making you feel sympathy for the characters and it makes you want to root for the protagonist. While this is not much different from the first Death Wish, I still had fun with this movie and it's delivers on what you'd expect from a Death Wish sequel.

"I don't kill people anymore."

While this wasn't a necessary sequel by any means and is not the masterpiece that the original Psycho was, it's still a very solid movie that is good in it's own right. Anthony Perkins delivers a very good performance as Norman Bates once again and I liked how much care was put into this movie instead of it being a cheap cash-grab on the original which could've easily happened with this movie. I actually remember watching a part of this movie on TV when I was 10 and for some reason I was laughing at how cheesy I thought it was back then. I guess I wasn't at the right age to appreciate it at the time as it really is a well-made sequel that is genuinely chilling at times and the ending to this movie is great. While it isn't perfect as some of the acting is kind of stiff and starting off the movie with the shower scene from the first movie was pointless and had no business in being in this movie at all. Still it's a very good sequel and I'd be glad to watch this one again.

"Geographically speaking, in the Northern Hemisphere. Socially, on the margins. And narratively, with some way to go."

This was another movie that I've been meaning to see for a long time, but never got around to it until now. With that said this is one of Terry Gilliam's best movies despite the tragedy that happened behind the scenes which was Heath Ledger's death. I think this movie did a great job of working around his death by having three other actors play his role for him and the reason it works in this movie when it would just be awkward in any other movie is because this method actually fits in with the whole imaginarium theme. This movie has some fantastic visuals and as far as visuals go this movie is amazing, but it also has great acting especially from actors like Verne Troyer and Tom Waits and every actor goes out of their way to deliver a great performance. The story was also very well-executed and I was invested in what was happening from start to finish. I just loved everything about this movie and it's one of Terry Gilliam's best movies in my book.

"Game Over!"

While this is not even close to being a good movie, I don't think it's bad as everyone makes it out to be. While it does have it's problems like it having barely anything to do with Street Fighter, Jean-Claude Van Damme's acting is laughable and is somewhat miscast as Guile, some of the dialogue is very cheesy and it is nonsensical at times, but at the same time that is part of the movie's charm. It knows what kind of movie it wants to be and the people behind this movie had fun with it. Even though this movie doesn't have that much to do with Street Fighter, the action is still fun and the highlight of this movie for me was Raul Julia's performance as M. Bison as it was hammy in all the right places. Even though it's not a good movie, I still enjoyed it for the cheesefest that it is and a part of me wonders if this movie would've been slightly more well-received if it wasn't called Street Fighter.

"His name's Bison. I've tracked him through eleven major cities on four continents and never come close, not once. This guy walks through the raindrops. Anybody that's against him is either dead, or on their way."

This adaptation of Street Fighter on the other hand deserves all of the criticism it gets and I think it's safe to say that it would still suck even without the Street Fighter name attached to it. Even with that said this movie fails miserably as an adaptation because it has even less to do with Street Fighter than the other Street Fighter. At least that movie tried to capture the spirit of the game even though it doesn't take place at a street fighter tournament. With this movie though besides the characters names, it has nothing to do with Street Fighter and what's even more insulting with this movie is that you'd think they'd learn from last time to have this one take place in a street fighting tournament this time around, but no they made the same mistake they did last time. I could forgive that if this movie was entertaining, but it's not. It's just so boring and this movie takes itself way too seriously. The acting was pretty bad for the most part and the only person in this movie that was trying was Michael Clarke Duncan. I can't remember if I thought he was good or not since this movie as a whole was very boring, but he was the only actor in this movie that actually stood out and he was the only person in the movie that could act. I mean all the other actors were unremarkable and one of the actors is a member of The Black Eyed Peas for Christ sakes. As for the action, besides the action scene at the beginning which was OK, the rest of it was really boring and just felt like a chore to sit through. It's a godawful movie that fails as an adaptation and as a movie in general.

"Wow, this is such a big house, but I only ever see the two of you here. It's like the studio didn't have enough money for any more X-Men..."

This movie really lived up to the hype and it did not disappoint at all. Just like I suspected this movie really is a breath of fresh air from the recent Marvel movies that take themselves too seriously and it has just the right amount of self-awareness to make it stand out from the recent superhero movies. This movie is easily the funniest Marvel movie to date as it has a lot of hilarious moments and there's a lot of good fourth wall jokes which really captures the humor of the Deadpool character. The action is also great as it's just off the wall and it really takes full advantage of it's R rating. What I also loved about this movie is how they advertised it because one thing I noticed about this movie is that most of the stuff that the trailers showed were only in the beginning of the movie and didn't give too much away which was really nice. This is the best Marvel movie since The Avengers and it might even be my favorite Marvel movie to date. This movie was so good that I actually want to see it in theatres a second time and I've never done that before.

This was an odd viewing for me because for the first hour I thought this movie was just OK and didn't think too much of it, but after the first hour I actually started to like it. I don't even think this was the movie's problem as I probably wasn't in the right mood for this movie during the first half or something. Still it is a fun movie even if it is very cheesy at times. Kevin Costner is not the most believable guy to play Robin Hood, but I think he does a good enough job with the title role and Christian Slater and Morgan Freeman are good too, but the real show stealer is Alan Rickman (May he rest in peace.) as The Sherriff of Nottingham. He pretty stole the movie as he really made this movie worth watching. Even though it's far from perfect, I still liked this movie and I could see myself watching it again. Even though I kind of knew what to expect from this movie, I was still pleasantly surprised by it. This is far from the standard Van Damme fare as it's more of a dramedy than it is an action movie and it really works in that regard. This movie is very funny at times, but it even works as a drama and Jean-Claude Van Damme delivers what is easily his best performance. That speech he does near the near of the movie was very touching and it actually felt genuine. It's a very good movie that I think is worth watching even if you're not a Van Damme fan and it's probably his best movie. I'm still not sure if I like this one or Lionheart more.

This was a pretty good movie. It had a very interesting premise, good dialogue and very good performances from Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro. I really liked how the premise was executed and I really enjoyed this movie, but if there was anything I didn't like it would be the ending. It just felt very rushed and it was just very stupid. Seriously, it ends with Bradley Cooper speaking italian and the final line in this movie is "What?" It feels like that part of the movie was written by a chimpanzee with brain damage, but other than that it was a very solid, smart thriller that I'd be willing to watch again.

Real stupid and real lucky. Last night you scraped by, just barely; but a man's dead on account of something you let get started even though you didn't start it."

This is a classic movie that is kind of underrated in the sense that not a lot of people remember it. This movie was surprisingly controversial for it's time due to how it depicted bikers and while this movie is tame by today's standards, but it is still a fascinating movie. Marlon Brando is great in this movie and it's definitely one of his more overlooked roles and Lee Marvin is equally great as well although he was unrecognizable to me as he looked different in this movie than what I'm normally used to. I really liked this movie and any fan of Marlon Brando should watch this.

"Let me put it this way. Maybe I'd sleep with you if you were the last man on Earth. But we're not on Earth."

Now that I've seen this, I really don't understand the hate for it. It's far from being John Carpenter's best movies and it's probably one of his weaker efforts, but it's still entertaining. I did like the characters, the action scenes were good and like most of John Carpenters movies I really liked the ideas it had to offer and it had it's share of creativity. It's not perfect by any means and I did not like the cliffhanger ending especially when it tanked so hard that the possibility of a sequel is very low, but it's still enjoyable and it isn't as bad as it's reputation would suggest.

"I thought you said you had a TV."
"No, the guy across the alley has a TV. I have binoculars."

While this is the weakest movie based on Hunter S. Thompson's work, it still is a very good movie. The characters were interesting, it was very funny and just like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Where The Buffalo Roam I was just really interested in where the story would go and wanting to know what will happen next. Not too many problems here, but one thing that was kind of off-putting was that use of CGI in one scene. I don't know, it just felt very out of place for this kind of movie. Still it's a highly enjoyable movie just like all the other Hunter S. Thompson movies.

"Alright, this is bullshit! We came here to pick up chicks, not talk about dicks!"

Even though this is a very predictable movie and it's pretty obvious how it's going to end, it's still a fun movie. All I was expecting was this movie to make me laugh and it succeeded in doing that. Owen Wilson is funny as usual, but Jason Sudeikis really made this movie as most of his lines in this movie were the funniest parts of the movie. It's nothing special, but it's a decent comedy that manages to deliver some good laughs.

"They say it's just physical abuse but it's more than that, this was spiritual abuse. You know why I went along with everything? Because priests, are supposed to be the good guys."

Since I was actually planning on watching The Oscars this year due to Chris Rock hosting it I decided to watch two movies that were nominated for Best Picture. This is the one that ended up winning and I don't think it really deserved to win. I liked this movie, but there was nothing in this movie that was exceptionally good. I did like most of the acting in this movie with Mark Ruffalo delivering the best performance, the dialogue was good and there were some standout scenes, but I didn't care for how this movie was presented. This movie did have an important story to tell, but the way they portrayed it felt a bit too Hollywood for lack of a better term. Also Rachel McAdam's performance really wasn't that exceptional. She really didn't have to do much in terms of acting and I just felt like her performance lacked emotion. It's not an Oscar-worthy performance in my opinion.

So in the end this I liked this movie, but it's overrated and it just lacked that emotional punch that I was expecting from it.

"You're gonna love it."
"What?"
"The world."

This movie on the other hand was fantastic. It was a very thought-provoking movie that has what is quite possibly one of the best child performances in a movie and Brie Larson is also amazing as the leading role and she definitely deserved the Best Actress award. The story is really well done and while the movie is disturbing and a tough one to swallow, it is very rewarding in the end. I could go on about how great this movie is, but I went into this one knowing next to nothing about it and that's the best way to see this movie.

"You know, the closed mind is the worst defense against the paranormal, Kylie. What are you gonna do against a hostile spirit? You just gonna crack jokes?"
"No, I am going to smash it in the face.
"You cannot punch ectoplasm."

Out of all the recent horror movies to come out in the past few years, this movie is one of those gems. It is a good blend of horror and comedy although I think this movie excels more in horror as it is genuinely scary at times. The movie also does have it's funny moments too, but I think it succeeded just a bit more as a horror movie. It does fall short on being a classic of the genre, but it's still a movie that I had fun watching and is proof that good horror movies are still being made in this day and age.

"Peachy, I'm heartily ashamed for gettin' you killed instead of going home rich like you deserved to, on account of me bein' so bleedin' high and bloody mighty. Can you forgive me?"
"That I can and that I do, Danny, free and full and without let or hindrance."
"Everything's all right then."

What a hell of an adventure this was. It is a timeless story about friendship and the story is very interesting and it's one of those adventure movies that really feels like an adventure just by watching it. Sean Connery and Michael Caine are fantastic in this movie and the friendship between their characters is kind of reminiscent of Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid. It's a great movie and a great note to end this month on.
