Battlefield 1942 - PC Games

This online multiplayer shooter was a huge hit when released, thanks to great maps, up to 64 players, 20 different weapons, and 30+ vehicles anyone can jump into and control, including tanks, boats and planes. There was an offline single-player mode where you battle against AI-controlled units, but the main gameplay of this game was its online mode. You can join either US, UK, German, Russian, or Japanese forces aross four different war theatres - South Pacific, North Africa, Western and Eastern European fronts.

Battlefield 1942: The Road to Rome - PC Games

This expansion for BF 1942 adds the least known battles of WWII - the Italian and Sicilian campaigns. There are two new forces you can control (French Legionnaires and Italian forces), eight new vehicles, new weapons (Bayonet; rifle grenade launcher, Sten SMG), and six new maps based in Italy and Siciliy.

Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII - PC Games

This 2nd expanion for BF 1942 focuses on experimental vehicles and weapons that were being developed during WWII. Rocket planes, heavy-duty tanks, and personal rocket launcher are among some of the new toys, along with eight new maps, including a V2 launch site and Hitler's secret Eagle's Nest.

Battlefield: Vietnam - PC Games

The first sequel to Battlefield 1942 moves the 64-player online gameplay to the Vietnam war theatre, bringing all new maps, vehicles, weapons, and armed forces (US and Vietcong) to the mix. A 'Redux' edition appeared in 2005, which included all the latest patches as well as an EA-made mod 'World War II' for this game, allowing BF 1942 maps to be played on BF: Vietnam's upgraded graphics.

Battlefield 2 - PC Games

The first true sequel, using a new graphical engine, brings the Battlefield series to the modern era, with US, Chinese, and MEC (Islamic) forces battling it out in a large variety of jets, tanks, jeeps, and even on the USS Essex. Improved psychics, dynamic lighting, higher resolution textures and more realistic damage model are other big new features. Online, up to 64 players could be on each map.

Battlefield 2: Modern Combat - PlayStation 2
The first console version of the Battlefield series was set in the modern era, and appeared on both Xbox and PS2 consoles in October 2005. Compared to the PC version, the consoles got toned down textures and resolutions, and an online 24-player limit instead of 64.

This expansion to Battlefield 2 brings the world's top special forces into the mix; UK's SAS, US Navy SEALs, Russain Spetznas, as well as Islamic insurgents and rebels. New items such as grappling hook, zip line, tear gas grenades and flash bangs are included, along with new vehicles such as Desert Raiders, Combat ATVs, and Apache Longbow.

Battlefield 2142 - PC Games

Having conquered the WWII battlefield, Vietnam War, as well as modern warfare, the next major release in the Battlefield series allows players to experience futuristic Mech-style warfare. A 2006 climatic catastrophe triggers a new ice age, and over a hundred years later, there lies just two superpowers that are in an all-out assault to control the few remaining resources left on earth - Europe and a Pan Asian Coalition. Besides enjoying all new futuristic weapons and mechanized armor vehicles, there is now a new Titan mode of gameplay, where each team tries to bring down the enemy's giant ship that flies high above the battlefield, protected by a shield generator.

Previously released individually, this collection includes both add-on 'Booster Packs' for Battlefield 2. The first is 'Euro Force', which adds three new maps, seven weapons, four vehicles (including the Euro Fighter), and a new fighting force (European army). The second pack is 'Armored Fury' which brings three new maps all based in the US, several new vehicles (including the A-10 Tank Buster, and a new ability to airdrop vehicles loaded with troops, which is a required strategy for the new maps.

Battlefield 2142: Northern Strike - PC Games

This booster pack for BF 2142 adds three new maps to the game, all set in Germany which is now deep inside the frozen zone of Earth's new Ice Age. The EU forces get the new A3 Goliath, a slow moving mobile fortress, while the PAC forces get small and speedy Hachimoto.

Battlefield: Bad Company - PlayStation 3
The Battlefield series takes it to the next level, but unfortunately away from its PC roots, releasing 'Bad Company' only for the X360 and PS3 systems. It combines the 24-player FPS multiplayer action with something not found in any of the other games - a focused single-player campaign and story line, with in-depth character developement in your squad. The new engine has been completely revamped as well, to allow a level of object destruction unseen in the series. Anything you cover behind can be destroyed with the right weapons.

Battlefield 1943 - PlayStation Network
This enhanced remake of the original Battlefield 1942 was released in mid-2009 as downloadable games on both XBox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. A Windows version is expected in Sep. 2009.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - PlayStation 3
The sequel to the hit shooter of 2008 is returning to the X360 & PS3 in early 2010, this time with even more destructive options. You will now be able to destroy entire buildings, not just the walls, and every single bullet will leaves its mark on the terrain. Up to 99% of the environment will be able to be destroyed. Also, a PC version is rumored to be coming as well, but it has not been confirmed.

The Battlefield franchise is a series of computer and console games that started with the Windows game Battlefield 1942. The series is developed by EA Digital Illusions CE (DICE), and published by Electronic Arts. The games feature a greater focus on large maps and vehicle warfare than traditional first person shooters. The PC games in the series are mainly focused on online multiplayer. The Battlefield series had sold 4.4 million units as of October 2004. The series has a recognizable 6-beat sting which is often used in promotional material for the games.
