It had been a while since I saw a movie directed by Claire Denis so I was quite eager to check this flick and the fact that it got some pretty good reviews made this movie ever more intriguing. 20 years after her directing debut ‘Chocolat’, Denis was again making a movie in Africa, a place where she grew up. Description: Taking place in an unnamed African country torn by a rebellion, Maria, a fierce and fearless white woman, refuses to abandon her coffee crops and to acknowledge the danger to which she is exposing her family. "2.3. 2020 A coffee plantation owner and her family find it very hard to live and survive in some unknown and corrupted African country where innocent people are tortured, killed, and persecuted in daily basis. I'm not exactly sure what this film is trying to reach but the execution was so flat that I didn't really care either. All the characters are also weirdly emotionless and distant."
