A good movie

Once again, it seemed to be another flop for Tom Cruise and, apparently, the poor guy will never learn. At least, this time, it was actually pretty good, much better than the rather underwhelming ‘Oblivion’ and, to be fair, it would have been a hit if it would have been released 15 or 20 years ago. Basically, there is not one single star who can guarantee a box-office hit, not even Johnny Depp... read more

This hot garbage gets a 90% on RT and a 7.9 on IMDB? How much crack are you people smoking?!? I was really hoping this movie would be more than the sci-fi version of Groundhog Day, but that's essentially all it was.

Sure, the human battle-mech suits and the alien combatants were cool to look at it, but beyond that this film offers nothing new or interesting. Forget how incredibly co... read more

Edge of Tomorrow is the kind of film you watch, then shrug when it's over. There's little worth raving about, and little worth getting furious about. It's moderately pleasing Summer blockbuster barf. It will make a ripple in the box-office, perhaps serve as a nice rental in the future, but it's not the kind of film that remains in memory for too long.

A la Groundhog Day, Major Willi... read more

My Top 199 Favorite Sci-Fi Movies... Of Like, Ever (199 movies items)

" While this movie started out with the name "Edge Of Tomorrow', since its release both in DVD and streaming forms, it's been advertised more as "Live. Die. Repeat". That's because the story for this time-loop epic is basically just same thing as Groundhog Day. Except, instead of Bill Murray, it stars Tom Cruise as the lead. And instead of Andie McDowell as the romantic interest, it's Emily Blunt. And instead of Chris Elliot as the supporting role, it's Bill Paxton. And instead of taking place "

Movies the giraffe watched in 2020: February (26 movies items)

"Re-watch - Feb. 22nd I figured we needed to dial things up a little bit, so our third film was Edge of Tomorrow. She absolutely loved it, so I let her know there's a sequel in the works and she's looking forward to it. As am I. My opinion of the film hasn't shifted much from the last time I watched it, but it's one I'm proud to say I own so I can revisit it whenever the mood strikes me."

Slant's 100 Best Sci-Fi Movies of All Time (100 movies items)

"Edge of Tomorrow is an intelligent, self-reflexive blockbuster with an eye for castigating proliferate franchise mentalities. Doug Liman uses the film’s premise against itself, wearing down any sense of expository propulsion by whittling Major Bill Cage’s (Tom Cruise) plight to an affective, existential joie de vivre, where the prospect of death is, paradoxically, the prospect of life. Make no mistake, Liman is using that plight to question how knowledge through repetition only works if said"
