A classic

Since I’m a huge fan of Alfred Hitchcock, I was really eager to check this flick. Unfortunately, honestly, I thought that the whole thing was slightly disappointing. I mean, I did like it but I was expecting more from it. Indeed, the plot (a renowned but retired thief is accused of stealing some jewels so he intends to catch the real thing) really sounded pretty cool but, unfortunately, I though... read more

Cary Grant. Grace Kelly. Alfred Hitchcock. The French Riviera.   There’s nothing else you need to make a wildly entertaining thrill ride, complete with some romance, action, and beautiful jewels. It’s charming minor Hitchcock, but an entry that is demonstrative of his range as an artist. After the one-two punch of the prior year’s Dial M for Murder and Rear Window, both claustrophobic mo... read more

" Grace Kelly has never looked lovelier and at home in this role; and this is a perfect role for Cary Grant. Hitchcock does it again!"

my half assed 2018 movie diary (40 movies items)

" Murder, mystery and intrigue on the French Riviera. The people are beautiful, the location is breathtaking, but the script is flimsy and the twist at the end didn't exactly make me faint from shock. Grace Kelly is absolutely gorgeous, in a cold and distant way; well manicured and perfect almost to a fault with no visible flaws. Cary Grant is a consummate charming gentleman as usual and somehow manages to not look like cradle robbing thot making out with women half his age. Not the best Hitc"

Alfred Hitchcock Films - Ranked (53 movies items)

" While watching To Catch a Thief I was constantly thinking that there's a really great film in here somewhere. But it's just a fine film. Solid framework. Nice premise. Solid performances by charming people that got great chemistry between each other. There's a lot of fun in just that. But that's all basically this film is. It just feels like empty banter for the most of the time. I get that Hitchcock obviously wanted the film to be more about its two leads than the actual plot, but this caused"

This was a romantic thriller by Alfred Hitchcock. It was amusing enough, but not the caliber of movie that I normally associate with Hitchcock.

The romance was odd and seemed to really be one-sided, with Francie pursuing relentlessly, and John never really seeming all the interested.

The mystery portion wasn't all the convincing, either. The limited number of characters in the movie makes it a pretty easy guess. The behaviour of the police, first chasing him for so long, then letting him go didn't make much sense, or at least why so much time was spent developing the chase only to have it not matter.

Still” read more

Movie Reviews (151-200) (50 movies items)

" Hitchcock's best romantic crime caper movie. It has a great Monte Carlo location with sexy leads (legendary Cary Grant and soon-to be princess Grace Kelly at her most gorgeous). Beautifully photographed too. Only Grace Kelly's scary race driving feels gruesomely eerie as if it predicted her real life fate dying on those same roads a few decades later. Still this is a masterpiece of a film."
