#1 tearjerker

The film is told in flashbacks, and by the end, when they show the scene with the bus, it's probably the most nerve-wrecking goose-bump emotional scene ever filmed. Unless you have no soul, you'll be be bawling your eyes out. I thought it was a beautiful film before, but now that I have two little daughters of my own, the film is oh so much harder to watch. I couldnt even imagine how I'd feel i... read more

Egoyan at its best. Holm excells as an angry mature man, trying to fix everbpody's tragedy but his with his yunki daughter. The Pied Piper morbid sardonic satirical political theme (thanks to the bonus track I read it for the first time), spreads its mystery all over.

A very good movie

Since I kept hearing some pretty good things about this flick, I was quite eager to check it out. The last 20 years, I have tried to follow Atom Egoyan's work but everything he made recently turned out to be rather underwhelming ('The Captive' being an all-time low for the Canadian director). Well, after all these years, it was really neat to finally see his magnum-opus and the reason why the guy ... read more

Description: A lawyer, pursued by the demons of losing a daughter to drugs, comes to a Canadian town where 20 children have died in a tragic school bus accident. He wants the parents to sue, to determine who was at fault, and to focus their anger on making those at fault pay. Told partly in flashbacks to the days leading up to the accident, we also follow the attorney from family to family, coaxing them to join the suit. One young teen survives, crippled. She has become the lame child left behind in "The Pied Piper of Hamlin," which she reads aloud to a child the night before the accident. Her testimony is pivotal, and her relation ... (more)

" Since it’s a film about a bus crash, and it’s aftermath, you know it’s going to a tearjerker, and it is. After a accident, kills everyone on board, the town wants answers, and proceeds to sue the bus driver who survived. Based on the novel by Russell Banks, and itself based on the 1989 bus crash, in Alton, Texas, the film garnered rave reviews, even if audiences didn’t see it that much. The film, which was nominated for dozens of awards, also featured a soundtrack with songs perform"

A very good movie

“Since I kept hearing some pretty good things about this flick, I was quite eager to check it out. The last 20 years, I have tried to follow Atom Egoyan's work but everything he made recently turned out to be rather underwhelming ('The Captive' being an all-time low for the Canadian director). Well, after all these years, it was really neat to finally see his magnum-opus and the reason why the guy was one of the most heralded directors back in the 90's. To be honest, it wasn't an easy movie to decipher though. Indeed, you had first some random chronology which is usually a useless gimmick but it did work very well here. Then, the motivations of Steven Mitchell were also rather obscure. Indeed, it seemed rather unlikely that he did it for the money but, then, why did he try to convince this ” read more

Sorry but this movie is not told through flashbacks... The chronology is actually much more random and the actual bus accident takes place around the middle of the running time.

"16.3. Bussitapaturman sattuessa kylään laskeutuu painava hiljaisuus. Kun hiljaisuutta saapuu rikkomaan asianajaja Mitchell Stephens, kaikki eivät ota häntä aivan yhtä lämpimästi vastaan. Elokuva aukeaa mestarilliseen tapaan, dialogi soljuu ja koko peruslähtökohta tarinassa ja teemoissa traumojen avaamisesta - puolin ja toisin - on täyttä rautaa. Hienoa elokuvaa jälleen Egoyanilta."

Kanadalaisen pikkukylän lapset ovat kuolleet koulubussin suistuttua jäihin. Kylänraitilla leijuu suru. "12.2. 2019 A horrible tragedy strikes a small Canadian town when several children get killed in a school bus accident. A lawyer wants to find someone to blame for the accident by any means necessary. The lawyer is a very humane character, just like all the others. He is suspicious, but still not especially immoral, and he is also haunted by some dramatic personal incidents of his past. The story is told in unchronological order and Egoyan controls this stylistic decision admirably so that it "

" A small Canadian town is left emotionally reeling when a school bus has a fatal accident resulting in the loss of several of the local children. An out of town lawyer, driven by his failure to protect his own daughter from the devastation of drug addiction, tries to convince the towns people to sue for a big settlement. However, with the class action suit depending on the few kids who did survive, one of the primary (and potentially hopeful) witnesses, a now paralyzed 15 year old once buddin"
