Even though I wasn’t sure if this movie was any good, I was still really eager to check it out. Indeed, a spy flick starring the great Sean Connery is always a treat and it is a real shame that the guy has already retired about 10 year ago. This time, it was something quite different than his good old James Bond movies but it is exactly what made it interesting. This time, he was just a normal g... read more

" Based on the novel by John LeCarre, three notebooks supposedly containing Russian military secrets are handed to a British publisher during a Russian book conference. The British Secret Service are naturally keen to learn if these notebooks are the genuine article. To this end, they enlist the help of the scruffy British publisher Barley Blair, who has plenty of experience with Russia and Russians. Barley, an unconventional character who doesn't respond well to authority, finds himself in "

" First Viewing Viewing Date: February 4th Via: Amazon Prime Video (MGM Channel) Plot: A British publisher is sent a manuscript detailing Soviet Union nuclear missile capabilities. British Intelligence intercept it and recruit him to investigate the author's editor, a beautiful Russian woman he claims never to have met. Rating: 6.6/10 Why Did I Watch It? I'm making the most of the MGM Channel while I have it, and this looked interesting, especially with Sean Connery, J.T. Walsh, Roy Scheider "

BradWesley123's Movie Journal- September 2018 (33 movies items)

" Amazon Prime- 2hrs. 3min. First Viewing At first, The Russia House appears to have everything going for it. Great leads, confident direction, and Le Carre source material. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to realize that all of this is really just for show; despite all of these elements, the film is a frequent bore, with little plot movement or character growth. Things just happen, and then it ends. It's impressively mounted, but hollow. "
