1984 a Russian submarine, Red October, state of art one with a unique propagation system thar make it hard to detect by sonar, hits the water. Captain Ramius and his crew officer were on test mission, but the captain and his close aisdes had other intention. Age is a funny thing. A movie can receive dozens of accolades and audience approval in the 80's, but audiences might reject the film 20 years later. Sometimes (such as with Groundhog Day), a film can be met lukewarmly upon release, only to slowly accumulate significant popularity over time. To be honest, even though this movie has a really solid reputation, I have to admit that I always had some mixed feelings about this flick. I mean, obviously, for John McTiernan, it was a 3rd huge success in a row (following the superior ‘Die Hard’ and ‘Predator’) and he was, back in those days, one of the most highly regarded directors in Hollywood.
